Transcriptional interference between nuclear receptors and activator protein-1

These effects are mediated mostly by the genomic effects of nuclear receptors which bind selectively to DNA (hormone response element), and regulate target gene transcription. An alternative pathway of transcriptional regulation is the crosstalk between nuclear receptors and other transcription factors, such as NPKB, or activator protein-1 (AP-1). Transcription factor AP-1 is composed of nuclear proteins encoded by the Jun family and Fos family of protooncogenes, whose transcription is rapidly induced by a number of growth factors and other signaling molecules. AP-1 is implicated in diverse aspects of cell growth, differentiation and development. In this project, I have focused on the analysis of the mechanisms of transcriptional interference between nuclear receptors and AP-1

Influence of Teacher Immediacy on Student Evaluations of Teachers in American and Chinese Classrooms

    Get PDF
This study investigated student perspectives on teacher immediacy in American and Chinese classrooms, and the correlation between immediacy and teacher evaluation. Specific immediacy behaviors that are most associated with teacher evaluation among American and Chinese students were also examined. Two hundred seventy-seven university students responded to instruments designed to measure teacher immediacy and teacher evaluation. Chinese students perceived a lower amount of instructor nonverbal immediacy than American students, but there is no significant difference between the two groups on verbal immediacy. Significant positive correlations were found between teacher immediacy and teacher evaluation in both groups. Praising students\u27 work and soliciting viewpoints or opinions were found to be most associated with teacher evaluation in American classrooms and Chinese classrooms respectively

The Provision and Sustainability of GIS Services: How an Academic Library without a GIS Specialist Provides GIS Services

    Get PDF
This paper presents a case study of how one academic library provides services and support for the Geographic Information System (GIS) needs of students and faculty. The case study involves an American university library that has provided GIS services to meet the needs of students and faculty while lacking the formal position of a dedicated GIS Librarian. The library’s variety of GIS-related support is described in the paper, and an overview of resources for librarians to develop their GIS skills is also shared. The paper offers insights and lessons learned about the level of services that can be offered by academic libraries in GIS-related research and training for students, faculty, and staff

    Collection Dashboards for Selectors

    Get PDF
While collections dashboards are often used as an external communications tool, they have additional applications for improving internal processes and assisting subject selectors. The value of collection visualization for analytics and strategy cannot be underestimated as visualizations can help clarify complex information to improve decision-making. This paper summarizes the current efforts to deploy collection dashboards at the University of Houston libraries. Using Tableau to parse and visualize collections data, the library is embedding visualization frameworks into the acquisitions calendar to enhance selection and deselection processes

SOCIAL COMMERCE: THE CRITICAL ROLE OF ARGUMENT STRENGTH AND SOURCE DYNAMISM OF EWOM

    Get PDF
Due to the increasing popularity of social media, social commerce has been emerging as a new form of e-commerce. As a driving force of the popularity and growth of social commerce, electronic wordof-mouth (eWOM) plays an important role during the process of consumers’ purchase decision making in social commerce. There are adequate studies that have offered a broad view on what makes the helpfulness perception of eWOM. However, little research has investigated the effect of argument strength and source dynamism of eWOM. Drawing on Stimulus–Organism–Response (S–O–R) model and Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM), an integrated research model is proposed and tries to explore the impact of argument strength and source dynamism of eWOM on consumers’ affective response and cognitive response and how do they affect the formation of consumers’ purchasing intention. We expect that our study can make a contribution to theoretical development and provide some guidance for retailers to carry out a better management strategy of eWOM

Strategic Planning for the Chinese American Library Association: From Process to Implementation

    Get PDF
This report explored the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA)’s strategic planning process for 2020-2025 during COVID-19. The paper introduced CALA’s mission statement, values, and discussed the importance of the strategic plan. A strategic planning task force was formed to create an opportunity for membership input in virtual town hall meetings and surveys. The authors presented a case study on the process of revising a strategic plan and discussed the implementation phases. The authors also shared the challenges and recommendations in organizing strategic planning for a library association

Love Data @ UH: Collaborating with Campus Partners to Promote Data Services

    Get PDF
In this paper, the authors discuss their academic library’s role in promoting collaboration and visibility among various data service providers on campus, including those provided by the library. Bringing together these data providers for a one-day event at the library, Love Data @ UH, speakers and audience members were able to meet and talk about data management, data visualization, and other data-related services provided at University of Houston campus. The authors also discuss how the event was planned, with recommendations for others considering holding a similar event

Zero sequence blocking transformers for multi-pulse rectifier in aerospace applications

The second session of the 109th Congress may well face decisions regarding the preparation of U.S. military forces for stability missions, a broad doctrinal term of which a major subset is peace operations. A November 28, 2005, Department of Defense (DOD) directive that designates stability operations as “core missions” of the U.S. military marks a major shift on the future necessity of performing peacekeeping and related stability operations (also known as stabilization and reconstruction operations)
