    Study of superconductivity of very thin FeSe1xTex\mathrm{FeSe}_{1-x}\mathrm{Te}_x films investigated by microwave complex conductivity measurements

    Complex conductivity measurements spanning the entire temperature range, including the vicinity of TcT_c, were conducted on systematically varied FeSe1x_{1-x}Tex_x (xx = 0 - 0.5) very thin films. By applying a novel cavity measurement technique employing microwave electric fields parallel to FeSe1x_{1-x}Tex_x films, we observed distinct temperature-dependent alterations in superfluid fraction and quasiparticle scattering rate at the nematic boundary. These changes in the nematic boundary suggests variations in the superconducting gap structure between samples in the nematic and non-nematic phase. Moreover, fluctuation is visible up to 1.2 TcT_c irrespective of nematic order, consistent with large superconducting fluctuations in iron chalcogenide superconductors reported previously in [H. Takahashi et al\textit{et al}, Phys. Rev. B 99, 060503(R) (2019)] and [F. Nabeshima et al\textit{et al}, Phys. Rev. B 97, 024504(R) (2018)]

    The anti-inflammatory effects of photobiomodulation are mediated by cytokines: Evidence from a mouse model of inflammation

    There is an urgent need for therapeutic approaches that can prevent or limit neuroinflammatory processes and prevent neuronal degeneration. Photobiomodulation (PBM), the therapeutic use of specific wavelengths of light, is a safe approach shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. The current study was aimed at evaluating the effects of PBM on LPS-induced peripheral and central inflammation in mice to assess its potential as an anti-inflammatory treatment. Daily, 30-min treatment of mice with red/NIR light (RL) or RL with a 40 Hz gamma frequency flicker for 10 days prior to LPS challenge showed anti-inflammatory effects in the brain and systemically. PBM downregulated LPS induction of key proinflammatory cytokines associated with inflammasome activation, IL-1β and IL-18, and upregulated the anti-inflammatory cytokine, IL-10. RL provided robust anti-inflammatory effects, and the addition of gamma flicker potentiated these effects. Overall, these results demonstrate the potential of PBM as an anti-inflammatory treatment that acts through cytokine expression modulation

    Expressions of ezrin, ERK, STAT3, and AKT in tongue cancer and association with tumor characteristics and patient survival.

    Ezrin, ERK, STAT3, and AKT are proteins that are overexpressed in various types of cancer, although their expressions in tongue cancer has received less focus. This study aimed to address associations between the expression levels of these proteins and with characteristics of the tumor and patient survival. We performed immunohistochemical staining of ezrin, ERK, STAT3, and AKT in tumors from patients with tongue carcinoma in situ (CIS, n = 17) and tongue squamous cell carcinoma (SCC, n = 46). Statistical differences between the SCC versus the CIS cohorts were estimated by calculations of bivariate odds ratios of low versus high expression of the proteins. Fisher\u27s exact tests were used to appraise interassociations between the proteins, as well as expression levels versus patient and tumor characteristics. Survival based on Kaplan-Meier statistics in combination log-rank tests were used to address potential effects of the patient and tumor characteristics versus 5-year survival rate. The relative high: low expression of all four proteins in the two cohorts differed, and particularly ERK was markedly overexpressed in the SCC versus the CIS cohort (odds ratio = 45.3, p < .01). The relative high: low expression each protein versus patient and tumor characteristics; showed associations between AKT expression and T stage (p = .002) plus node metastases (p = .12), and between ERK expression and drinking (p = .01) and smoking history (p = .01). There was no significant difference observed between ERK and the three other molecules, nor any significant difference between the degree of expression of each protein and the 5-year disease-specific survival rate. Ezrin, ERK, STAT3, and AKT appear to be involved in the progress from carcinoma in situ in the tongue into squamous cell carcinoma. ERK in particular is overexpressed, suggesting that ERK may be a novel therapeutic target for preventing tongue cancer

    骨盤臓器脱にTVM 手術を施行した51 症例を対象としてUFM, 残尿量,P-QOL,ICIQ-SF 及びIPSSを調査することによりTVM 手術の下部尿路症状,排尿機能とQOL に与える改善効果を評価した.周術期成績と解剖学的改善度は良好であり,IPSS による下部尿路症状の評価では夜間頻尿以外のすべての項目で有意に改善した.またP-QOL を用いたQOL 評価でも有意な改善を示した.本研究では骨盤臓器脱に対してTVM 手術が下部尿路症状,排尿機能,QOL を短期間の評価ながら改善する事を示した.今後は解剖学的治療効果のみでなく,排尿や性機能を含めて長期間評価することが必要と考えられた.The aim of this paper is to describe the perioperativemedical outcome, complications and the improvement ofvoiding function and their quality of life( QOL) in 51 casesof tension-free vaginal mesh (TVM) for the treatment ofpelvic organ prolapse( POP) at our institute. Perioperativemedical outcome and anatomical restoration were good atsix months after the operation. Lower urinary tract symptomand QOL of the patients were statistically much improvedbased on the results of IPSS and prolapse quality oflife questionnaire( P-QOL), except for nocturia. This studyshowed improvement of voiding function and QOL for thefemale POP.Further studies will be needed for a long period not onlythe anatomical restoration but also the voiding and sexualfunction

    Postseismic fluid discharge chemically recorded in altered pseudotachylyte discovered from an ancient megasplay fault: an example from the Nobeoka Thrust in the Shimanto accretionary complex, SW Japan

    Abstract Megasplay fault branching from plate boundaries of subduction zones is thought to be important sources of earthquakes and tsunamis. In this study, we performed structural and geochemical analyses on a fossilized megasplay fault (the Nobeoka Thrust of the Shimanto accretionary complex) to understand fluid-rock interaction and how the splay fault plays a role in fluid flow in the seismogenic zone. As a result of structural observations, we report that the principal slip zone (PSZ) of the Nobeoka Thrust is composed of foliated cataclasite originating from a sandstone-shale mélange and includes a thin (~ 1.5 mm thick) pseudotachylyte layer. Major and trace element composition analysis and EPMA element mapping revealed that the pseudotachylyte is enriched in Li and Cs within the PSZ, as well as in the slip zone of a minor fault in the footwall. Li and Cs enrichment in pseudotachylyte is interpreted as a result of fluid-rock interaction in the postseismic stage, because such an anomaly only results from a large fluid/rock ratio (R > 512–24 at 250–350 °C) under the influence of Li- and Cs-enriched fluids. The amount of fluid that reacted with the pseudotachylyte is estimated to be 1.78 × 100 to 7.61 × 103 m3

    Deformation Process and Mechanism of the Frontal Megathrust at the Nankai Subduction Zone

    Abstract The frontal megathrust of the Nankai Trough subduction zone is recognized as a seismogenic fault based on a record of frictional heating, but the underlying micromechanical processes that act on the fault surface are poorly known. Here we present a layer of fault gouge ∼2 mm thick within a core drilled across the megathrust, in which smectite‐rich siltstone has been transformed into a preferentially oriented illite aggregate. The nearly complete breakdown of smectite is consistent with fast frictional heating on this fault; however, the microtextures of the gouge and its surroundings are asserted one produced experimentally by slow slip. We suggest that slow slip with small shear strain has overprinted the textures produced by the previous faster and larger slip. This interpretation based on microtectonic evidence suggests a slow slip around the frontal megathrust took place during slow down, afterslip, or interseismic as observed now going in subduction zone. We suggest that the illite‐dominated gouge is conditionally stable, likely to shift from rapid to slow slip at different times
