Reexamination of Mocs and Tauti chondritic meteorites: Classification with shock degree

    Get PDF
The Mocs meteorite, which fell on February 3,1882,in Transylvania over a large area (15km by 3km) has been reclassified from a L6 to a L5-6 chondrite in this study. Six fragments of the Mocs chondrite were observed by optical microscopy and measured using electron microprobe analyses and standard wet chemical analysis. Although the petrologic type of the 6 samples is almost the same, 2 fragments : Mocs-1 and Mocs-3 show heterogeneous features (opaque shock veins and melt pockets) due to different shock degrees (S-5 and S-4,respectively). Therefore the mean shock degree of the Mocs chondrite was found to be S3-5. The Tauti meteorite which fell in 1937 in Transylvania was previously classified as L6 chondrite using the bulk chemical analyses of H. SAVU (St. Cerc. Geol., 2 (IV), 272,1959) (A. L. GRAHAM; Meteoritics, 14,1,1979; A. L. GRAHAM et al.; Catalogue of Meteorites, London, British Museum, Natural History, 1985). The chemical compositions of olivines and orthopyroxenes determined by electron microprobe analysis, the bulk chemical analysis, along with textural characteristics classify Tauti shower as L6 chondrite with a shock degree of S-3

Clostridium difficile Infection Diagnosis by Biological Molecular Methods

    Get PDF
In the past 15 years, the incidence of Clostridium difficile infection has emerged especially because of the new highly virulent strains. The classical diagnosis methods used to diagnose C. difficile infection take time and the enzyme immunoassay (EIA) test has demonstrated the lack of sensitivity. Even though new modern molecular methods have become available, the diagnosis of C. difficile in patients or healthy carriers remains a big challenge for both clinicians and laboratory staff. In the present chapter, we will list the main genotyping methods, stressing their advantages and disadvantages, as well. A brief presentation of the most useful kit (principle, sensitivity, specificity, benefits and disadvantages) to assess the impact of molecular methods in comparison with classical methods will offer support for future research in the present context of an increasing prevalence of C. difficile infection that represents worldwide, a real public health problem. To improve the patients’ quality of life, to limit hospital transmission, and to save money, we have tried to identify the best diagnosis algorithm as tool in C. difficile diagnosis and surveillance. This algorithm may differ depending on the capacities of the laboratories and on the socioeconomic level of the countries in question

Development possibilities of rural tourism activities in the Almaj Valley area, Caras-Severin County

Rural tourism and agrotourism have an extremely important contribution in rural area’s development, not only in financial terms but also in terms of increasing and improving the quality of life of residents from these areas. So, the development of these forms of tourism is required in the rural area, both economically and socially. Known as an important ethnographic area of the country, with traditional elements specific, Almaj Valley through natural and cultural potential available, it stands more and more lately by intensifying rural tourist and ecotourist activity. However, tourist infrastructure is very underdeveloped, to rural communities returning the mission to get more involved in this purpose, having in view, the national and international recognition of the high tourism potential of this area Romanian area still retains, quite well, the traditional, cultural, ethnographic and folklore valences specific to rural areas, providing favorable conditions for development of rural tourism and agrotourism. Romanian villages have a rich tourist potential, having diversified tourist resources: traditions, customs and folk values, cultural monuments, historical and art and an unpolluted natural environment with a rich natural tourism potential. Almajului Depression known as well as the Almaj Country, Almajului Valley or Bozovici Depression is situated in the South-East side of Banat Mountains, in the south of Caras-Severin county, near the Parallel 45°, being an intramountainous depression, of ellipsoidal form of NE-SW orientation, belonging to Nera basin

The Involvement of Epigenetic Mechanisms in HPV‐Induced Cervical Cancer

    Get PDF
High‐risk human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes infection associates with cervical dysplasia and carcinogenesis. hr‐HPV transforming potential is based on E6 and E7 viral oncoproteins actions on cellular proteins. A persistent infection with hr‐HPV leads to progression from precursor lesions to invasive cervical cancer inducing changes in host genome and epigenome. Pathogenesis and development of cancer associated with both genetic and epigenetic defects alter transcriptional program. An important role for malignant transformation in HPV‐induced cervical cancer is played by epigenetic changes that occur in both viral and host genome. Furthermore, there are observations demonstrating that oncogenic viruses, once they integrated into host genome, become susceptible to epigenetic alterations made by host machinery. Epigenetic regulation of viral gene expression is an important factor in HPV‐associated disease. Gene expression control is complex and involves epigenetic changes: DNA methylation, histone modification, and non‐coding RNAs activity. Persistent infection with hr‐HPV can cause viral DNA integration into host genome attracting defense mechanisms such as methylation machinery. In this chapter, we aim to review HPV infection role in chromatin modification/remodeling and the impact of HPV infection on non‐coding RNAs in cervix oncogenesis. The reversible nature of epigenetic alterations provides new opportunities in the development of therapeutic agents targeting epigenetic modification in oncogenesis
