    Risky rents

    Accepted: 03 October 2016In this paper, we consider a symmetric contest game in which agents compete to increase their share of a risky rent. We show that a symmetric equilibrium always exists, and that it is unique under constant or decreasing absolute risk aversion. We then exhibit interpretable conditions so that increases in risk and risk aversion decrease equilibrium efforts in this strategic game

    International audienceIntroduction: The objective of our study was to evaluate musical perception and its relation to the quality of life in patients with bimodal binaural auditory stimulation.Materials and Methods: Nineteen adult patients with a cochlear implant (CI) for minimum 6 months, and moderate to severe contralateral hearing loss with a hearing aid (HA), and 21 normal hearing adults were included in this prospective, cross-sectional study. Pure-tone and speech audiometry, musical test evaluating sound perception characteristics and musical listening abilities, Munich questionnaire for musical habits, and the APHAB questionnaire were recoded. Performance in musical perception test with HA, CI, and HA + CI, and potential correlations between music test, audiometry and questionnaires were investigated.Results: Bimodal stimulation improved musical perception in several features (sound brightness, roughness, and clarity) in comparison to unimodal hearing, but CI did not add to HA performances in texture, polyphony or musical emotion and even appeared to interfere negatively in pitch perception with HA. Musical perception performances (sound clarity, instrument recognition) appeared to be correlated to hearing-related quality of life (APHAB RV and EC subdomains) but not with speech performances suggesting that the exploration of musical perception complements speech understanding evaluation to better describe every-day life hearing handicap.Conclusion: Testing musical sound perception provides important information on hearing performances as a complement to speech audiometry and appears to be related to hearing-related quality of life

    RassemblĂ©s bien souvent sans l’avoir souhaitĂ©, les habitants des ensembles rĂ©sidentiels urbains doivent partager des lieux intermĂ©diaires entre l’espace privĂ© du logement et l’espace public de la rue. Si ce partage se rĂ©duisait Ă  des rencontres Ă©pisodiques, la cohabitation entre voisins serait sans histoires. Mais tel n’est pas le cas. Les parties communes ont pour vocation d’ĂȘtre partagĂ©es sans pour autant qu’un accord prĂ©alable sur la maniĂšre de s’y comporter ou sur leur utilisation ait Ă©tĂ© Ă©tabli. Aussi sont-elles le lieu privilĂ©giĂ© de confrontations entre diffĂ©rentes conceptions de la civilitĂ©, de la propretĂ©, de la sociabilitĂ©, du savoir-vivre
 C’est ici notamment que se dĂ©roulent les luttes destinĂ©es Ă  faire prĂ©valoir son identitĂ© ou Ă  Ă©viter de se voir imposer une image stigmatisĂ©e. Attentifs Ă  ce qui se passe dans ces espaces entre-deux - Ă  la fois lieux de passage et scĂšne oĂč se confrontent diffĂ©rentes cultures de l’habiter -, les ethnologues et sociologues rĂ©unis dans cet ouvrage analysent les mĂ©canismes rĂ©currents, les codes sociaux et les normes culturelles mis en oeuvre par les habitants pour produire des rĂšgles de vie communes possibles et les inscrire dans des contextes aussi divers qu’imbriquĂ©s : individuel et familial, collectif et social. Au-delĂ  des variations et des diffĂ©rences qu’ils dĂ©crivent, les auteurs montrent comment l’établissement d’un ordre, souvent provisoire, rĂ©sulte de confrontations et de nĂ©gociations quotidiennes oĂč se jouent les rapports Ă  soi et aux autres - de quoi interpeller les concepteurs (architectes, urbanistes, amĂ©nageurs) ainsi que les gestionnaires de nos cadres bĂątis (bailleurs, syndics, Ă©lus), surtout lorsqu’ils se lancent dans des politiques dites de « rĂ©sidentialisation »
