A Resazurin Based Bio Sensor for Detection of Organic Pollutants in Water

    No full text
With the objective of water analysis, a microsystem was developed, by using Resazurin molecule as an indirect bio sensor. The detection principle consists to monitor optically the oxygen consumption of E. Coli bacteria towards their metabolism in presence of organic pollutants. Thus, aiming on Glucose detection, a concentration-dependent inhibition effect on oxygen consumption rate was evidenced in the [0–0.41 mM] range of organic pollutants

Système microfluidique et procédé pour isoler et quantifier au moins une sous-population de cellules à partir d'une population de cellules

    No full text
The invention concerns a microfluidic System (1) capable of receiving cell populations and capable of simultaneously isolating and quantifying, for each of the populations, at least one sub-population of cells {ÇA), and a method of simultaneous isolation and quantification using this System. The System comprises a substrate having networks of microchannels (10) comprising a first sorting unit capable of isolating, by magnetic attraction, cells of interest (C2) in the population in at least one first sorting micro-channel. This network comprises a second unit for simultaneous sorting and counting (U2) comprising at least one second sorting microchannel (10) defined by a closed wall (S) having an inner face (9) provided with at least one functionalised électrode (El,E2) capable of trapping a sub-population, the second unit comprising means (El,E2) for counting the sub-population by means of impedance spectroscopy. According to the invention, the second sorting microchannel is provided with at least one pair of opposing functionalised électrodes and at least one pair of second micro-coils (11and12) for trapping the cells of interest arranged in the wall facing the électrodes and controlling successive attraction/release cycles that alternate between the micro-coils.L'invention concerne un système microfiuidique (1) apte à recevoir des populations de cellules et apte à isoler et à quantifier simultanément pour chacune des populations au moins une sous-population de cellules {ÇA), et un procédé d'isolement et de quantification simultanés utilisant ce système.

Bibliometric survey and network analysis of biomimetics and nature inspiration in engineering science

    No full text
International audienceThe field encompassing biomimetics, bioinspiration and nature inspiration in engineering science is growing steadily, pushed by exogenous factors like the search for potentially sustainable engineering solutions that might exist already in nature. With help of information provided by bibliometric database and further processed with dynamic network and semantic analysis tool, we provide insight at two scales on the corpus of nature inspired engineering field and its dynamics. At macro scale, the Web of Science® (WoS) categories, countries and institutions are ranked and ordered by thematic clusters and country networks, highlighting leading countries and institutions and how they focus on specific topics. Such an insight provides an overview at a macro scale that can be valuable to orient scientific strategy at the country level. At meso scale where science is incarnated by collaborative networks of authors and institutions that run across countries, we identify six semantic clusters and subclusters within them, and their dynamics. We also pinpoint leading academic collaborative networks and their activity in relation with the six semantic clusters. Trends and prospective are also discussed. Typically one observe that the field is becoming mature since, starting by imitating nature, it proceeded with mimicking more complex natural structures and functions and now it investigates ways used in nature in response to changes in the environment and implements them in innovative and adaptive artefacts. The sophistication of devices, methods and tools has been increasing over the years as well as their functionalities and adaptability whereas the size of devices has decreased at the same time
