The Chinese Housing Provident Fund
The Chinese government has embarked upon an effort to reduce the number of tenants living in publicly owned housing. This is a significant challenge for any government, but may be especially so for a country where private homeownership is a new option. Out of concern that many of its citizens could not afford to purchase their housing units, the Chinese government created the Housing Provident Fund. This program, which is similar to housing fund programs in other countries such as Thailand and Singapore, combines a 401(k)-like savings and retirement account with subsidized mortgage rates and price discounts to provide a mechanism through which an employee could save for, and eventually complete, a housing purchase.
Ferromagnetic phase transition and Bose-Einstein condensation in spinor Bose gases
Phase transitions in spinor Bose gases with ferromagnetic (FM) couplings are
studied via mean-field theory. We show that an infinitesimal value of the
coupling can induce a FM phase transition at a finite temperature always above
the critical temperature of Bose-Einstein condensation. This contrasts sharply
with the case of Fermi gases, in which the Stoner coupling can not lead
to a FM phase transition unless it is larger than a threshold value . The
FM coupling also increases the critical temperatures of both the ferromagnetic
transition and the Bose-Einstein condensation.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
USP13 antagonizes gp78 to maintain functionality of a chaperone in ER-associated degradation
Physiological adaptation to proteotoxic stress in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) requires retrotranslocation of misfolded proteins into the cytoplasm for ubiquitination and elimination by ER-associated degradation (ERAD). A surprising paradox emerging from recent studies is that ubiquitin ligases (E3s) and deubiquitinases (DUBs), enzymes with opposing activities, can both promote ERAD. Here we demonstrate that the ERAD E3 gp78 can ubiquitinate not only ERAD substrates, but also the machinery protein Ubl4A, a key component of the Bag6 chaperone complex. Remarkably, instead of targeting Ubl4A for degradation, polyubiquitination is associated with irreversible proteolytic processing and inactivation of Bag6. Importantly, we identify USP13 as a gp78-associated DUB that eliminates ubiquitin conjugates from Ubl4A to maintain the functionality of Bag6. Our study reveals an unexpected paradigm in which a DUB prevents undesired ubiquitination to sharpen substrate specificity for an associated ubiquitin ligase partner and to promote ER quality control
Building and analyzing protein interactome networks by cross-species comparisons
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>A genomic catalogue of protein-protein interactions is a rich source of information, particularly for exploring the relationships between proteins. Numerous systems-wide and small-scale experiments have been conducted to identify interactions; however, our knowledge of all interactions for any one species is incomplete, and alternative means to expand these network maps is needed. We therefore took a comparative biology approach to predict protein-protein interactions across five species (human, mouse, fly, worm, and yeast) and developed InterologFinder for research biologists to easily navigate this data. We also developed a confidence score for interactions based on available experimental evidence and conservation across species.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The connectivity of the resultant networks was determined to have scale-free distribution, small-world properties, and increased local modularity, indicating that the added interactions do not disrupt our current understanding of protein network structures. We show examples of how these improved interactomes can be used to analyze a genome-scale dataset (RNAi screen) and to assign new function to proteins. Predicted interactions within this dataset were tested by co-immunoprecipitation, resulting in a high rate of validation, suggesting the high quality of networks produced.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Protein-protein interactions were predicted in five species, based on orthology. An InteroScore, a score accounting for homology, number of orthologues with evidence of interactions, and number of unique observations of interactions, is given to each known and predicted interaction. DriveSceneGen: Generating Diverse and Realistic Driving Scenarios from Scratch
Realistic and diverse traffic scenarios in large quantities are crucial for
the development and validation of autonomous driving systems. However, owing to
numerous difficulties in the data collection process and the reliance on
intensive annotations, real-world datasets lack sufficient quantity and
diversity to support the increasing demand for data. This work introduces
DriveSceneGen, a data-driven driving scenario generation method that learns
from the real-world driving dataset and generates entire dynamic driving
scenarios from scratch. DriveSceneGen is able to generate novel driving
scenarios that align with real-world data distributions with high fidelity and
diversity. Experimental results on 5k generated scenarios highlight the
generation quality, diversity, and scalability compared to real-world datasets.
To the best of our knowledge, DriveSceneGen is the first method that generates
novel driving scenarios involving both static map elements and dynamic traffic

Independent Eigenstates of Angular Momentum in a Quantum N-body System
The global rotational degrees of freedom in the Schr\"{o}dinger equation for
an -body system are completely separated from the internal ones. After
removing the motion of center of mass, we find a complete set of
independent base functions with the angular momentum . These are
homogeneous polynomials in the components of the coordinate vectors and the
solutions of the Laplace equation, where the Euler angles do not appear
explicitly. Any function with given angular momentum and given parity in the
system can be expanded with respect to the base functions, where the
coefficients are the functions of the internal variables. With the right choice
of the base functions and the internal variables, we explicitly establish the
equations for those functions. Only (3N-6) internal variables are involved both
in the functions and in the equations. The permutation symmetry of the wave
