Inclusive double-quarkonium production at the Large Hadron Collider
Based on the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism, we
investigate inclusive productions of two spin-triplet S-wave quarkonia
pp->2J/psi+X, 2Upsilon+X, and J/psi+Upsilon+X at the CERN Large Hadron
Collider. The total production rates integrated over the rapidity (y) and
transverse-momentum (p_T) ranges |y|<2.4 and p_T<50 GGeV are predicted to be
sigma[pp->2J/psi+X] = 22 (35) nb, sigma[pp->2Upsilon+X] = 24 (49) pb, and
sigma[pp->J/psi+Upsilon+X] = 7 (13) pb at the center-of-momentum energy sqrt{s}
= 7 (14) TeV. In order to provide predictions that can be useful in both small-
and large-p_T regions, we do not employ the fragmentation approximation and we
include the spin-triplet S-wave color-singlet and color-octet channels for each
quarkonium final state at leading order in the strong coupling. The p_T
distributions of pp->2J/psi+X and 2Upsilon+X in the low-p_T region are
dominated by the color-singlet contributions. At leading order in the strong
coupling, the color-singlet channel is absent for pp->J/psi+Upsilon+X.
Therefore, the process pp->J/psi+Upsilon+X may provide a useful probe to the
color-octet mechanism of NRQCD.Comment: 26 pages, 7 figures, 3 tables, version published in JHE

Strings from geometric tachyon in Rindler space and black hole thermodynamics
The dynamics of a probe particle or wrapped brane moving in the
two-dimensional Rindler space can be described by a time-dependent tachyon
field theory. Using knowledge of tachyon condensation, we learn that the
infalling brane gets thermalised and produces open string pairs at the Hagedorn
temperature when entering into the near-horizon Rindler wedge. It is shown that
the Hagedorn temperature of the infalling brane is equal to the Hawking
temperature of the host black hole detected in the same time coordinate. The
infalling brane will decay completely into closed strings, mainly massive
modes, when it reaches the horizon in infinitely long time as observed by
observers at spatial infinity. Preliminary estimates indicate that the
degeneracy of states of the closed strings emitted from the infalling brane
should be responsible for the increased entropy in the host black hole due to
absorption of the brane.Comment: 12 page
Entanglement Entropy and Wilson Loop in St\"{u}ckelberg Holographic Insulator/Superconductor Model
We study the behaviors of entanglement entropy and vacuum expectation value
of Wilson loop in the St\"{u}ckelberg holographic insulator/superconductor
model. This model has rich phase structures depending on model parameters. Both
the entanglement entropy for a strip geometry and the heavy quark potential
from the Wilson loop show that there exists a "confinement/deconfinement" phase
transition. In addition, we find that the non-monotonic behavior of the
entanglement entropy with respect to chemical potential is universal in this
model. The pseudo potential from the spatial Wilson loop also has a similar
non-monotonic behavior. It turns out that the entanglement entropy and Wilson
loop are good probes to study the properties of the holographic superconductor
phase transition.Comment: 23 pages,12 figures. v2: typos corrected, accepted in JHE

A computational model of the hypothalamic - pituitary - gonadal axis in female fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) exposed to 17α-ethynylestradiol and 17β-trenbolone

Both 17α-ethynylestradiol and 17β-trenbolone have been found in the aquatic environment and affect fish reproduction. In this study, we developed a physiologically-based computational model for female fathead minnows (FHM, Pimephales promelas), a small fish species used in ecotoxicology, to simulate how estrogens (i.e., 17α-ethynylestradiol) or androgens (i.e., 17β-trenbolone) affect reproductive endpoints such as plasma concentrations of steroid hormones (e.g., 17β-estradiol and testosterone) and vitellogenin (a precursor to egg yolk proteins).
Results - Using Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations, the model was calibrated with data from unexposed, 17α-ethynylestradiol-exposed, and 17β-trenbolone-exposed FHMs. Four Markov chains were simulated, and the chains for each calibrated model parameter (26 in total) converged within 20,000 iterations. With the converged parameter values, we evaluated the model's predictive ability by simulating a variety of independent experimental data. The model predictions agreed with the experimental data well.
Conclusions - The physiologically-based computational model represents the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in adult female FHM robustly. The model is useful to estimate how estrogens (e.g., 17α-ethynylestradiol) or androgens (e.g., 17β-trenbolone) affect plasma concentrations of 17β-estradiol, testosterone and vitellogenin, which are important determinants of fecundity in fish. The Medical Research Foundation of Oregon, U.S. Environmental Protection

Myocarditis Following COVID-19 BNT162b2 Vaccination Among Adolescents in Hong Kong
Cases of myocarditis following the second dose of messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine are accruing worldwide, especially in younger male adults and adolescents.1-4 In weighing the risk of myocarditis against the benefit of preventing severe COVID-19, Norway, the UK, and Taiwan have suspended the second dose of mRNA vaccine for adolescents. Similarly, adolescents (aged 12-17 years) in Hong Kong have been recommended to receive 1 dose of BNT162b2 instead of 2 doses 21 days apart since September 15, 2021 (Figure)
Holographic Entanglement Entropy in P-wave Superconductor Phase Transition
We investigate the behavior of entanglement entropy across the holographic
p-wave superconductor phase transition in an Einstein-Yang-Mills theory with a
negative cosmological constant. The holographic entanglement entropy is
calculated for a strip geometry at AdS boundary. It is found that the
entanglement entropy undergoes a dramatic change as we tune the ratio of the
gravitational constant to the Yang-Mills coupling, and that the entanglement
entropy does behave as the thermal entropy of the background black holes. That
is, the entanglement entropy will show the feature of the second order or first
order phase transition when the ratio is changed. It indicates that the
entanglement entropy is a good probe to investigate the properties of the
holographic phase transition.Comment: 19 pages,15 figures, extended discussion in Sec.5, references adde
Analytic study of Gauss-Bonnet holographic superconductors in Born-Infeld electrodynamics
Using Sturm-Liouville (SL) eigenvalue problem, we investigate several
properties of holographic s-wave superconductors in Gauss-Bonnet gravity with
Born-Infeld electrodynamics in the probe limit. Our analytic scheme has been
found to be in good agreement with the numerical results. From our analysis it
is quite evident that the scalar hair formation at low temperatures is indeed
affected by both the Gauss-Bonnet as well as the Born-Infeld coupling
parameters. We also compute the critical exponent associated with the
condensation near the critical temperature. The value of the critical exponent
thus obtained indeed suggests a universal mean field behavior.Comment: 9 pages, Latex, minor modifications, To appear in JHE
