Initial Systematic Investigations of the Landscape of Low Layer NAHE Extensions

The discovery that the number of physically consistent string vacua is on the order of 10^500 has prompted several statistical studies of string phenomenology. Contained here is one such study that focuses on the Weakly Coupled Free Fermionic Heterotic String (WCFFHS) formalism. Presented are systematic extensions of the well-known NAHE (Nanopoulos, Antoniadis, Hagelin, Ellis) set of basis vectors, which have been shown to produce phenomenologically realistic models. Statistics related to the number of U(1)'s, gauge group factors, non-Abelian singlets, ST SUSYs, as well as the gauge groups themselve are discussed for the full range of models produced as well as models containing GUT groups only. Prior results of other large-scale investigations are compared with these regarding the aforementioned quantities. Statistical coupling between the gauge groups and the number of ST SUSYs is also discussed, and it was found that for order-3 extensions there are more models with enhanced ST SUSY when there is an exceptional group present. Also discussed are some three-generation GUT models found in the data sets. These models are unique because they come from basis vectors which still have a geometric interpretation -- there are no "rank-cuts" in these models.Comment: 65 Pages, 31 Tables, 31 Figure

The N=1 superstring as a topological field theory

First Report of an OXA-23 Carbapenemase-Producing Acinetobacter baumannii Clinical Isolate Related to Tn2006 in Spain

A carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolate belonging to European clone II and sequence type 2 was recov-ered from a patient in the Son Espases hospital in Mallorca, Spain. Genetic analysis showed the presence of the bla OXA-23 gene in association with the widely disseminated transposon Tn2006. This is the first reported identification of A. baumannii carrying bla OXA-23 in Spain

Many faces of low mass neutralino dark matter in the unconstrained MSSM, LHC data and new signals

If all strongly interacting sparticles (the squarks and the gluinos) in an unconstrained minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) are heavier than the corresponding mass lower limits in the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model, obtained by the current LHC experiments, then the existing data allow a variety of electroweak (EW) sectors with light sparticles yielding dark matter (DM) relic density allowed by the WMAP data. Some of the sparticles may lie just above the existing lower bounds from LEP and lead to many novel DM producing mechanisms not common in mSUGRA. This is illustrated by revisiting the above squark-gluino mass limits obtained by the ATLAS Collaboration, with an unconstrained EW sector with masses not correlated with the strong sector. Using their selection criteria and the corresponding cross section limits, we find at the generator level using Pythia, that the changes in the mass limits, if any, are by at most 10-12% in most scenarios. In some cases, however, the relaxation of the gluino mass limits are larger ($\approx 20$). If a subset of the strongly interacting sparticles in an unconstrained MSSM are within the reach of the LHC, then signals sensitive to the EW sector may be obtained. This is illustrated by simulating the $blj$\etslash, $l= e and \mu$, and $b\tau j$\etslash signals in i) the light stop scenario and ii) the light stop-gluino scenario with various light EW sectors allowed by the WMAP data. Dentre os problemas fitotécnicos mais importantes na bananicultura destacam-se a utilização de cultivares suscetíveis às principais doenças da bananeira, o uso de mudas de má qualidade, tanto no aspecto fitotécnico como fitossanitário, manejo inadequado da cultura, sem a utilização de tecnologias mínimas para condução dos bananais, etc
