Equivalence of Several Chern-Simons Matter Models
Not only does Chern-Simons (CS) coupling characterize statistics, but also
spin and scaling dimension of matter fields. We demonstrate spin transmutation
in relativistic CS matter theory, and moreover show equivalence of several
models. We study CS vector model in some details, which provide consistent
check to the assertion of the equivalence.Comment: latex, 7page, IFT-478-UNC/NUP-A-93-15 A version within the length

Consistent reductions of IIB*/M* theory and de Sitter supergravity
We construct consistent non-linear Kaluza Klein reduction ansatze for a
subset of fields arising from the reduction of IIB* and M* theory on dS_5 x H^5
and dS_4 x AdS_7, respectively. These reductions yield four and
five-dimensional de Sitter supergravities, albeit with wrong sign kinetic
terms. We also demonstrate that the ansatze may be used to lift multi-centered
de Sitter black hole solutions to ten and eleven dimensions. The lifted dS_5
black holes correspond to rotating E4-branes of IIB* theory.Comment: 27 pages, late
Critical Statistical Charge for Anyonic Superconductivity
We examine a criterion for the anyonic superconductivity at zero temperature
in Abelian matter-coupled Chern-Simons gauge field theories in three
dimensions. By solving the Dyson-Schwinger equations, we obtain a critical
value of the statistical charge for the superconducting phase in a massless
fermion-Chern-Simons model.Comment: 11 pages; to appear in Phys Rev
Fractional Quantum Hall Effect via Holography: Chern-Simons, Edge States, and Hierarchy
We present three holographic constructions of fractional quantum Hall effect
(FQHE) via string theory. The first model studies edge states in FQHE using
supersymmetric domain walls in N=6 Chern-Simons theory. We show that D4-branes
wrapped on CP^1 or D8-branes wrapped on CP^3 create edge states that shift the
rank or the level of the gauge group, respectively. These holographic edge
states correctly reproduce the Hall conductivity. The second model presents a
holographic dual to the pure U(N)_k (Yang-Mills-)Chern-Simons theory based on a
D3-D7 system. Its holography is equivalent to the level-rank duality, which
enables us to compute the Hall conductivity and the topological entanglement
entropy. The third model introduces the first string theory embedding of
hierarchical FQHEs, using IIA string on C^2/Z_n.Comment: 36 pages, 6 figures; v2: with an improved derivation of Hall

Note on New Massive Gravity in
In this note we study the properties of linearized gravitational excitations
in the new massive gravity theory in asymptotically spacetime and find
that there is also a critical point for the mass parameter at which massive
gravitons become massless as in topological massive gravity in .
However, at this critical point in the new massive gravity the energy of all
branches of highest weight gravitons vanish and the central charges also vanish
within the Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions. The new massive gravity in
asymptotically spacetime seems to be trivial at this critical point
under the Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions if the Brown-Henneaux boundary
conditions can be consistent with this theory. At this point, the boundary
conditions of log gravity may be preferred.Comment: v3 typos corrected, refs added, version to appear in JHE
On magnetic catalysis in even-flavor QED3
In this paper, we discuss the role of an external magnetic field on the
dynamically generated fermion mass in even-flavor QED in three space-time
dimensions. Based on some reasonable approximations, we present analytic
arguments on the fact that, for weak fields, the magnetically-induced mass
increases quadratically with increasing field, while at strong fields one
crosses over to a mass scaling logarithmically with the external field. We also
confirm this type of scaling behavior through quenched lattice calculations
using the non-compact version for the gauge field. Both the zero and finite
temperature cases are examined. A preliminary study of the fermion condensate
in the presence of magnetic flux tubes on the lattice is also included.Comment: 38 pages latex, 18 figures and a style file (axodraw) incorporated

conclusions; version to appear in Phys. Rev. D.
SO(2,1) conformal anomaly: Beyond contact interactions
The existence of anomalous symmetry-breaking solutions of the SO(2,1)
commutator algebra is explicitly extended beyond the case of scale-invariant
contact interactions. In particular, the failure of the conservation laws of
the dilation and special conformal charges is displayed for the two-dimensional
inverse square potential. As a consequence, this anomaly appears to be a
generic feature of conformal quantum mechanics and not merely an artifact of
contact interactions. Moreover, a renormalization procedure traces the
emergence of this conformal anomaly to the ultraviolet sector of the theory,
within which lies the apparent singularity.Comment: 11 pages. A few typos corrected in the final versio
