    Pattern evolution and modal decomposition of Faraday waves in a brimful cylinder

    This paper investigates the steady-state pattern evolution of symmetric Faraday waves excited in a brimful cylindrical container when driving parameters much exceed critical thresholds. In such liquid systems, parametric surface responses are typically considered as the resonant superposition of unstable standing waves. A modified free-surface synthetic Schlieren method is employed to obtain full three-dimensional spatial reconstructions of instantaneous surface patterns. Multi-azimuth structures and localized travelling waves during the small-elevation phases of the oscillation cycle give rise to modal decomposition in the form of -basis modes. Two-step surface-fitting results provide insight into the spatiotemporal characteristics of dominant wave components and corresponding harmonics in the experimental observations. Arithmetic combination of modal indices and uniform frequency distributions reveal the nonlinear mechanisms behind pattern formation and the primary pathways of energy transfer. Taking the hypothetical surface manifestation of multiple azimuths as the modal solutions, a linear stability analysis of the inviscid system is utilised to calculate fundamental resonance tongues (FRTs) with non-overlapping bottoms, which correspond to subharmonic or harmonic -basis modes induced by surface instability at the air-liquid interface. Close relationships between experimental observations and corresponding FRTs provide qualitative verification of dominant modes identified using surface-fitting results. This supports the validity and rationality of the applied -basis modes.</p

    Bacterial diversity in the intestine of sea cucumber Stichopus japonicus

    The intestinal bacterial diversity of Stichopus japonicus was investigated using 16S ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) clone library and Polymerase Chain Reaction/Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE). The clone library yielded a total of 188 clones, and these were sequenced and classified into 106 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) with sequence similarity ranging from 88 to 100%. The coverage of the library was 77.4%, with approximately 88.7% of the sequences affiliated to Proteobacteria. Gammaproteobacteria and Vibrio sp. were the predominant groups in the intestine of S. japonicus. Some bacteria such as Legionella sp., Brachybacterium sp., Streptomyces sp., Propionigenium sp. and Psychrobacter sp were first identified in the intestine of sea cucumber

    Longitudinal broadening of near side jets due to parton cascade

    Longitudinal broadening along Δη\Delta\eta direction on near side in two-dimensional (Δϕ×Δη\Delta\phi \times \Delta\eta) di-hadron correlation distribution has been studied for central Au+Au collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV, within a dynamical multi-phase transport model. It was found that the longitudinal broadening is generated by a longitudinal flow induced by strong parton cascade in central Au+Au collisions, in comparison with p+p collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV. The longitudinal broadening may shed light on the information about strongly interacting partonic matter at RHIC.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; accepted by Eur. Phys. J.

    Integrated local control of active power and voltage support for three-phase three-wire converters

    The derivation of a robust control algorithm is presented to provide decoupled active power regulation and local grid voltage support in three-phase three-wire grid-connected converters (GCCs). Unlike conventional control schemes, the proposed strategy is designed to be harmonic sequence asym-metric for the purpose of local voltage unbalance correction. A frequency-domain Norton equivalent model is derived to illustrate the working principle of the strategy. Accordingly, by following a frequency-domain decoupled method, the funda-mental positive-sequence, the harmonic symmetrical sequences and the fundamental negative-sequence components are regu-lated independently. Consistent to the model analysis, simulation results validate reduction of local voltage unbalance and total harmonic distortion. Since no external sensors are required for the implementation of the strategy, it is a local approach, applicable to already-existing GCC systems. Moreover, in view of the higher switching frequencies as attainable by devices from the next SiC generation, the accuracy and dynamic behavior of the control algorithms can be much enhanced, improving therefore the quality of the processed energy

    Teleparallel Versions of Friedmann and Lewis-Papapetrou Spacetimes

    This paper is devoted to investigate the teleparallel versions of the Friedmann models as well as the Lewis-Papapetrou solution. We obtain the tetrad and the torsion fields for both the spacetimes. It is shown that the axial-vector vanishes for the Friedmann models. We discuss the different possibilities of the axial-vector depending on the arbitrary functions ω\omega and ψ\psi in the Lewis-Papapetrou metric.     Collective Properties of Low-lying Octupole Excitations in 82208Pb126^{208}_{82}Pb_{126}, 2060Ca40^{60}_{20}Ca_{40} and 828O20^{28}_{8}O_{20}

    The octupole strengths of β\beta-stable nucleus 82208Pb126^{208}_{82}Pb_{126}, a neutron skin nucleus 2060Ca40^{60}_{20}Ca_{40} and a neutron drip line nucleus 828O20^{28}_{8}O_{20} are studied by using the self-consistent Hartree-Fock calculation plus the random phase approximation (RPA) with Skyrme interaction. The collective properties of low-lying excitations are analyzed by using particle-vibration coupling. The results show that the lowest isoscalar states above threshold in 2060Ca40^{60}_{20}Ca_{40} and 828O20^{28}_{8}O_{20} are the superpositions of collective excitations and unperturbed transitions from bound state to nonresonance states. For these three nuclei, both the low-lying isoscalar states and giant isoscalar resonance carry isovector strength. The ratio B(IV)/B(IS) is checked. It is found that, for 82208Pb126^{208}_{82}Pb_{126}, the ratios are equal to (N−ZA)2(\frac{N-Z}{A})^2 in good accuracy, while for 2060Ca40^{60}_{20}Ca_{40} and 828O20^{28}_{8}O_{20}, the ratios are much larger than (N−ZA)2(\frac{N-Z}{A})^2. This results from the excess neutrons with small binding energies in 2060Ca40^{60}_{20}Ca_{40} and 828O20^{28}_{8}O_{20}.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figure
