Orientifolds of Gepner Models
We systematically construct and study Type II Orientifolds based on Gepner
models which have N=1 supersymmetry in 3+1 dimensions. We classify the parity
symmetries and construct the crosscap states. We write down the conditions that
a configuration of rational branes must satisfy for consistency (tadpole
cancellation and rank constraints) and spacetime supersymmetry. For certain
cases, including Type IIB orientifolds of the quintic and a two parameter
model, one can find all solutions in this class. Depending on the parity, the
number of vacua can be large, of the order of 10^{10}-10^{13}. For other
models, it is hard to find all solutions but special solutions can be found --
some of them are chiral. We also make comparison with the large volume regime
and obtain a perfect match. Through this study, we find a number of new
features of Type II orientifolds, including the structure of moduli space and
the change in the type of O-planes under navigation through non-geometric
phases.Comment: 142 page
Bulk perturbations of N=2 branes
The evolution of supersymmetric A-type D-branes under the bulk
renormalization group flow between two different N=2 minimal models is studied.
Using the Landau-Ginzburg description we show that a specific set of branes
decouples from the infrared theory, and we make detailed predictions for the
behavior of the remaining branes. The Landau-Ginzburg picture is then checked
against a direct conformal field theory analysis. In particular we construct a
natural index pairing which is preserved by the RG flow, and show that the
branes that decouple have vanishing index with the surviving branes.Comment: 35 pages (30 pages plus title and references), 8 figure
Integrability of the N=2 boundary sine-Gordon model
We construct a boundary Lagrangian for the N=2 supersymmetric sine-Gordon
model which preserves (B-type) supersymmetry and integrability to all orders in
the bulk coupling constant g. The supersymmetry constraint is expressed in
terms of matrix factorisations.Comment: LaTeX, 19 pages, no figures; v2: title changed, minor improvements,

On the Orbit Structure of the Logarithmic Potential
We investigate the dynamics in the logarithmic galactic potential with an
analytical approach. The phase-space structure of the real system is
approximated with resonant detuned normal forms constructed with the method
based on the Lie transform. Attention is focused on the properties of the axial
periodic orbits and of low order `boxlets' that play an important role in
galactic models. Using energy and ellipticity as parameters, we find analytical
expressions of several useful indicators, such as stability-instability
thresholds, bifurcations and phase-space fractions of some orbit families and
compare them with numerical results available in the literature.Comment: To appear on the Astrophysical Journa
Opening Mirror Symmetry on the Quintic
Aided by mirror symmetry, we determine the number of holomorphic disks ending
on the real Lagrangian in the quintic threefold. The tension of the domainwall
between the two vacua on the brane, which is the generating function for the
open Gromov-Witten invariants, satisfies a certain extension of the
Picard-Fuchs differential equation governing periods of the mirror quintic. We
verify consistency of the monodromies under analytic continuation of the
superpotential over the entire moduli space. We reproduce the first few
instanton numbers by a localization computation directly in the A-model, and
check Ooguri-Vafa integrality. This is the first exact result on open string
mirror symmetry for a compact Calabi-Yau manifold.Comment: 26 pages. v2: minor corrections and improvement
Twisting gauged non-linear sigma-models
We consider gauged sigma-models from a Riemann surface into a Kaehler and
hamiltonian G-manifold X. The supersymmetric N=2 theory can always be twisted
to produce a gauged A-model. This model localizes to the moduli space of
solutions of the vortex equations and computes the Hamiltonian Gromov-Witten
invariants. When the target is equivariantly Calabi-Yau, i.e. when its first
G-equivariant Chern class vanishes, the supersymmetric theory can also be
twisted into a gauged B-model. This model localizes to the Kaehler quotient

Strong diamagnetic response and specific heat anomaly above T_c in underdoped La_(2-x)Sr_xCuO_4
By measuring AC susceptibility using a very low amplitude of the AC field (<1
mG) it is shown that underdoped samples of La_(2-x)Sr_xCuO_4 (LASCO), are
diamagnetic in a temperature region above T_c up to a temperature T^*. This
behavior is only observed with AC fields along the c-axis whereas for fields in
the ab-plane no diamagnetism above Tc was detected. The diamagnetism is almost
frequency independent in the frequency range 0.1-10 kHz. At T* a broad step
anomaly in the specific heat is inferred through measurements of the elastic
constant c33. We suggest that the observed diamagnetism and the anomaly in the
elastic constant are associated with the existence of phase incoherent Cooper
pairs between Tc and T*.Comment: 5 pages 7 figures, to appear in Phys. rev
The K2-ESPRINT Project VI: K2-105 b, a Hot-Neptune around a Metal-rich G-dwarf
We report on the confirmation that the candidate transits observed for the
star EPIC 211525389 are due to a short-period Neptune-sized planet. The host
star, located in K2 campaign field 5, is a metal-rich ([Fe/H] = 0.260.05)
G-dwarf (T_eff = 543070 K and log g = 4.480.09), based on
observations with the High Dispersion Spectrograph (HDS) on the Subaru 8.2m
telescope. High-spatial resolution AO imaging with HiCIAO on the Subaru
telescope excludes faint companions near the host star, and the false positive
probability of this target is found to be < using the open source
vespa code. A joint analysis of transit light curves from K2 and additional
ground-based multi-color transit photometry with MuSCAT on the Okayama 1.88m
telescope gives the orbital period of P = 8.2669020.000070 days and
consistent transit depths of or . The transit depth corresponds to a planetary radius of , indicating that EPIC 211525389 b is a
short-period Neptune-sized planet. Radial velocities of the host star, obtained
with the Subaru HDS, lead to a 3\sigma\ upper limit of 90 on the mass of EPIC 211525389 b, confirming its planetary nature.
We expect this planet, newly named K2-105 b, to be the subject of future
studies to characterize its mass, atmosphere, spin-orbit (mis)alignment, as
well as investigate the possibility of additional planets in the system.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, 4 tables, PASJ accepte
Triangle-generation in topological D-brane categories
Tachyon condensation in topological Landau-Ginzburg models can generally be
studied using methods of commutative algebra and properties of triangulated
categories. The efficiency of this approach is demonstrated by explicitly
proving that every D-brane system in all minimal models of type ADE can be
generated from only one or two fundamental branes.Comment: 34 page
