Surface Coal Mining in Wyoming: Needs for Research and Management
Wyoming ranks second in the nation in strippable coal resources, with at least 18.9 billion tons of coal presently recoverable. Mining this coal could disturb about 590 square miles (0.6%) of the state's land area. Effect of 2,4-D on Digestibility and Production of Subalpine Herbage
Treatment of forb-dominated subalpine cattle range in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming with 2,4-D did not change the in vitro dry matter digestibility coefficients of the grasses or surviving forbs. Forbs and grasses were equally digestible throughout the growing season. Long-term Effects on Chemical Control of Big Sagebrush
In 1960 and 1961, big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata) on four cattle ranges in the Bighorn Mountains was sprayed with 2,4-D. By 1971, the canopy cover of big sagebrush was 8-42% of the pretreatment levels, seedling density ranged from 5.7-11.3 plants/120 ft2, herbage production was below the pretreatment levels with the proportion of graminoids about equal to that prior to spraying.
