    ANALYITCAL METHOD DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF A REVERSED-PHASE HIGHPERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY FOR THE DETERMINATION OF MODAFINIL IN BULK AND PHARMACEUTICAL DOSAGE FORMS

    Objective: To development and validation of a reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) for the determination of modafinil in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage forms.Methods: A simple, precise, rapid, and accurate RP-HPLC method was developed for the estimation of modafinil in bulk and pharmaceutical dosageforms. Xterra RP 18 (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μ particle size) with a mobile phase consisting of methanol:water 70:30 V/V was used. The flow rate1.0 ml/min and the effluents were monitored at 260 nm. The retention time and recovery time was 12 minutes. The detector response was linear inthe concentration of 10-50 μg/ml. The respective linear regression equation being Y=452.1x+65237. The limit of detection and limit of quantificationwere 4.547 and 1.377 mcg, respectively. The method was validated by determining its accuracy, precision, and system suitability.Result: The objective of the present work is to develop simple, precise, and reliable HPLC method for the analysis of modafinil in bulk andpharmaceutical dosage forms. This is achieved using the most commonly employed Xterra RP 18 (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μ particle size) columndetection at 260 nm.     Percolative shunting on electrified surface

    The surface discharge of electrified dielectrics at high humidity is considered. The percolative nature of charge transport in electrets is established. Particular attention is given to the phenomena of adsorption and nucleation of electrically conducting phase in the cause of percolation cluster growth on electrified surface.     NEUROPROTECTIVE EFFECT OF SARGASSUM ILICIFOLIUM TURNER C. AGARDH ON ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE ACTIVITY AND ATTENUATION OF SCOPOLAMINE-INDUCED AMNESIA IN RODENTS

    ABSTRACTObjective: In day to day life, occupational stress is responsible for oxidative stress by altering sleep cycle. Scopolamine induction of amnesia correlatesto stress-induced amnesia in youngsters. Hence, the present study was aimed to investigate the anti-amnesic effect of ethanolic extract and ethylacetate fraction of Sargassum ilicifolium Turner (C. Agardh) against scopolamine.Methods: In this study, seven groups of animals were used and scopolamine (0.4 mg/kg b.wt/intraperitoneally) was administered to all groups exceptpositive control to induce memory loss. Elevated plus maze, Morris water maze served as an exteroceptive behavioral model in testing memory inyoung rats. Brain acetylcholinesterase, a biomarker enzyme was estimated. Finally histopathology of cerebral cortex was performed.Results: The extract and fraction treated group showed an interesting result in memory scores, and the significant enzyme inhibition might beresponsible to attenuate acetylcholine in cholinergic neurons to enhance memory. Finally, histopathology of cerebral cortex proved the neuroprotectiveeffect of S. ilicifolium. All the results were statistically significant.Conclusion: Neuroprotective role of S. ilicifolium Turner C.Agardh was highlighted well in this study and it will be interesting infuture to dissect outthe kinetics of individual components in the fraction and to strengthen the phytomolecule role by insilico studies.Keywords: Learning, Memory, Acetylcholinesterase, Sargassum ilicifolium Turner (C.     Adsorption of Multi-block and Random Copolymer on a Solid Surface: Critical Behavior and Phase Diagram

    The adsorption of a single multi-block ABAB-copolymer on a solid planar substrate is investigated by means of computer simulations and scaling analysis. It is shown that the problem can be mapped onto an effective homopolymer adsorption problem. In particular we discuss how the critical adsorption energy and the fraction of adsorbed monomers depend on the block length MM of sticking monomers AA, and on the total length NN of the polymer chains. Also the adsorption of the random copolymers is considered and found to be well described within the framework of the annealed approximation. For a better test of our theoretical prediction, two different Monte Carlo (MC) simulation methods were employed: a) off-lattice dynamic bead-spring model, based on the standard Metropolis algorithm (MA), and b) coarse-grained lattice model using the Pruned-enriched Rosenbluth method (PERM) which enables tests for very long chains. The findings of both methods are fully consistent and in good agreement with theoretical predictions.Comment: 27 pages, 12 figure

    Two-Component Fluid Membranes Near Repulsive Walls: Linearized Hydrodynamics of Equilibrium and Non-equilibrium States

    We study the linearized hydrodynamics of a two-component fluid membrane near a repulsive wall, via a model which incorporates curvature- concentration coupling as well as hydrodynamic interactions. This model is a simplified version of a recently proposed one [J.-B. Manneville et al. Phys. Rev. E, 64, 021908 (2001)] for non-equilibrium force-centres embedded in fluid membranes, such as light-activated bacteriorhodopsin pumps incorporated in phospholipid (EPC) bilayers. The pump/membrane system is modeled as an impermeable, two-component bilayer fluid membrane in the presence of an ambient solvent, in which one component, representing active pumps, is described in terms of force dipoles displaced with respect to the bilayer midpoint. We first discuss the case in which such pumps are rendered inactive, computing the mode structure in the bulk as well as the modification of hydrodynamic properties by the presence of a nearby wall. We then discuss the fluctuations and mode structure in steady state of active two-component membranes near a repulsive wall. We find that proximity to the wall smoothens membrane height fluctuations in the stable regime, resulting in a logarithmic scaling of the roughness even for initially tensionless membranes. This explicitly non-equilibrium result, a consequence of the incorporation of curvature-concentration coupling in our treatment, also indicates that earlier scaling arguments which obtained an increase in the roughness of active membranes near repulsive walls may need to be reevaluated.Comment: 39 page Latex file, 3 encapsulated Postscript figure

    Nutrigenomics tools to address the emerging issues in marine fish larviculture

    It is of note that the capture fisheries are under stress for many targeted species. To reduce the pressure on the wild, research on mariculture had been practicing for decades. Even though technologies for captive breeding are standardized, the growth and survival of the larvae of candidate marine fish species are still not up to the mark. It is necessary to focus and encourage new approaches to standardize the hatchery protocol for enhanced production and sustainable management towards future demands. The major concern facing the marine fish hatchery is the delivery of nutritionally enriched feeds to the larvae. Inadequate nutrition is one of the major reasons for early mortality, weaning mortality, cannibalism, inadequate growth, lowered immunity etc. In India, nutrigenomics research is an up-and-coming field, especially the transcriptomics approach that can be applied to understand the gene expression profile of the larvae and juveniles with respect to nutritional interventions. By means of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) technology, a clear understanding of the growth, development, metabolism, immune function, stress, adaptation and differential gene expression is possible. In addition, the specific effects of selected nutrients on targeted genes can be studied to alter the diet composition accordingly for improving the growth, condition and survival of candidate species of marine fish larvae. This novel approach has the potential to unravel valuable information required to address the issues in marine fish larval nutrition and for the development of species and life-stage specific micro-feeds for sustainable larviculture

    Frequent occurrence of nematode parasites in moontail bullseye

    Nematodes infect various organs of fish such as stomach, intestine, liver, gonads, swim bladder, fins, orbits of the eye and brain. This parasitic infestation is known to cause growth retardation and impaired gonadal development in fishes. Bullseye belonging to the family Priacanthidae is a major demersal fishery resource in India and mainly caught by multiday trawlers operated at 20-150 m depths. Nematode parasites were found in moontail bullseye Priacanthus hamrur landed at Cochin Fisheries Harbour during May-September, 2017 period
