    The City and the Territory System: Towards The "New Humanism" Paradigm

    Abstract In this time of great transformations (increasing urbanization, climate change, biodiversity loss, growing disparities etc) we are searching a new development model, able to better satisfy the needs of all people. The "revised" traditional city model, (that is linked to a specific territory, to localism, to recognize the local identities that make the differences with their specific Heritage, based on circular/closed processes and robust relationships between city and territory; on face-to-face relationships (and not only to digital/virtual ones) attentive to the valorization of local tangible and intangible resources,exploiting differences in order to make sites more attractive to localization of talents, investments, specialized skills, that is to increase productivity), assumes the centrality of concrete relationships between the city and the territory, between inhabitants and nature. This perspective moving towards a new urban paradigm has been implemented in some small-size cities (slowcities)

    AbstractThe concept of human smart landscape introduces a perspective of research where the landscape identifies a complex system of relationships among the various smart dimensions (smart economy, smart mobility, smart environment, smart people, smart living, smart governance) and different interpretative approaches, overcoming the consideration of territory as a physical–geometrical reality at the service of economic aspects. The paper, starting from the evolution of the landscape's concept, focuses on the management of its complexity in the transformation processes included in the dynamic context of the landscape's cultural values and in the development strategies designed to support and strengthen these values. A multidimensional methodological framework, oriented to the evaluation and valorisation of landscape complex values, has been structured and tested in the National Park of Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni (Italy)

    Towards an integrated evaluation approach for cultural urban landscape conservation/regeneration

    The contemporary economic crisis (and also ecological and social crisis) calls for a new model of urban development. The international debate is today focused on the necessity of a new paradigm (Hosagrahar et al., 2016) that will define sustainable development policies and programmes: this new paradigm moves the concept of development towards a more humanistic and ecological point of view. The international debate around Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recently is going to highlight the role of cultural heritage for sustainable development (United Nations, 2015a). Cultural heritage can play a critical role in the achievement of the above mentioned new humanistic and ecological paradigm of sustainable city. In this paper some indicators to evaluate cultural urban landscape conservation/regeneration projects are identified, starting from case studies. The purpose of the analysis of good practices is to support the elaboration of a multidimensional matrix that can produce empirical evidence about impacts of cultural urban landscape conservation/regeneration. After a particular focus on the relationship between variation of landscape and variation of wellbeing, it will present a methodological proposal to evaluate cultural urban landscape conservation/regeneration projects

    Search for a Diffuse Neutrino Emission in the Southern Sky with the Antares Telescope

    Compelling evidence of the existence of cosmic neutrinos has been reported by the IceCube collaboration. Some features of this signal could be explained by a Northern/Southern sky asymmetry of the flux. This possible asymmetry would be related to the presence of the bulk our Galaxy in the Southern sky. The ANTARES neutrino telescope, located in the Mediterranean Sea, consists of a three dimensional array of 885 10-inch photomultiplier tubes distributed along twelve vertical lines. Its effective area and its good exposure to the Southern Sky would allow to constrain an enhanced muon neutrino emission from extended sources. An excess of events from the Galactic Plane is searched for. A signal region around the inner Galactic Plane is defined; the background from atmospheric events is estimated looking at data from off-zones for which ANTARES has the same exposure as for the signal region. The ANTARES sensitivity to such a flux has been computed. The results of the analysis after unblinding will be presented

    ZnO/ionic liquid catalyzed biodiesel production from renewable and waste lipids as feedstocks

    A new protocol for biodiesel production is proposed, based on a binary ZnO/TBAI (TBAI = tetrabutylammonium iodide) catalytic system. Zinc oxide acts as a heterogeneous, bifunctional Lewis acid/base catalyst, while TBAI plays the role of phase transfer agent. Being composed by the bulk form powders, the whole catalyst system proved to be easy to use, without requiring nano-structuration or tedious and costly preparation or pre-activation procedures. In addition, due to the amphoteric properties of ZnO, the catalyst can simultaneously promote transesterification and esterification processes, thus becoming applicable to common vegetable oils (e.g., soybean, jatropha, linseed, etc.) and animal fats (lard and fish oil), but also to waste lipids such as cooking oils (WCOs), highly acidic lipids from oil industry processing, and lipid fractions of municipal sewage sludge. Reusability of the catalyst system together with kinetic (Ea) and thermodynamic parameters of activation (∆G‡ and ∆H‡) are also studied for transesterification reaction
