Near-Infrared Imaging Survey of Faint Companions around Young Dwarfs in the Pleiades Cluster
We conducted a near-infrared imaging survey of 11 young dwarfs in the
Pleiades cluster using the Subaru Telescope and the near-infrared coronagraph
imager. We found 10 faint point sources, with magnitudes as faint as 20 mag in
the K-band, around 7 dwarfs. Comparison with Spitzer archive images revealed
that a pair of the faint sources around V 1171 Tau are very red in the infrared
wavelengths, indicative of very low-mass young stellar objects. However, the
results of our follow-up proper motion measurements implied that the central
star and the faint sources do not share common proper motions, suggesting that

Near-Infrared Coronagraphic Observations of the T Tauri Binary System UY Aur
We present a near-infrared image of UY Aur, a 0.9" separated binary system,
using the Coronagraphic Imager with Adaptive Optics on the Subaru Telescope.
Thanks to adaptive optics, the spatial resolution of our image was ~0.1" in the
full width at half maximum of the point spread function, the highest achieved.
By comparison with previous measurements, we estimated that the orbital period
is ~1640 yrs and the total mass of the binary is ~1.73 solar mass. The observed
H-band magnitude of the secondary varies by as much as 1.3 mag within a decade,
while that of the primary is rather stable. This inconstancy may arise from
photospheric variability caused by an uneven accretion rate or from the
rotation of the secondary. We detected a half-ring shaped circumbinary disk
around the binary with a bright southwest part but a barely detectable
northeast portion. The brightness ratio is ~57. Its inner radius and
inclination are about 520 AU and 42, respectively. The disk is not uniform but
has remarkable features, including a clumpy structure along the disk,
circumstellar material inside the inner cavity, and an extended armlike
structure. The circumstellar material inside the cavity probably corresponds to
a clump or material accreting from the disk onto the binary. The armlike
structure is a part of the disk, created by the accretion from the outer region
of the disk or encounters with other stellar systems.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures; accepted for publication in A
Turicibacter and Acidaminococcus predict immune-related adverse events and efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor
IntroductionImmune checkpoint inhibitors have had a major impact on cancer treatment. Gut microbiota plays a major role in the cancer microenvironment, affecting treatment response. The gut microbiota is highly individual, and varies with factors, such as age and race. Gut microbiota composition in Japanese cancer patients and the efficacy of immunotherapy remain unknown. MethodsWe investigated the gut microbiota of 26 patients with solid tumors prior to immune checkpoint inhibitor monotherapy to identify bacteria involved in the efficacy of these drugs and immune-related adverse events (irAEs).ResultsThe genera Prevotella and Parabacteroides were relatively common in the group showing efficacy towards the anti-PD-1 antibody treatment (effective group). The proportions of Catenibacterium (P = 0.022) and Turicibacter (P = 0.049) were significantly higher in the effective group than in the ineffective group. In addition, the proportion of Desulfovibrion (P = 0.033) was significantly higher in the ineffective group. Next, they were divided into irAE and non-irAE groups. The proportions of Turicibacter (P = 0.001) and Acidaminococcus (P = 0.001) were significantly higher in the group with irAEs than in those without, while the proportions of Blautia (P = 0.013) and the unclassified Clostridiales (P = 0.027) were significantly higher in the group without irAEs than those with. Furthermore, within the Effective group, Acidaminococcus and Turicibacter (both P = 0.001) were more abundant in the subgroup with irAEs than in those without them. In contrast, Blautia (P = 0.021) and Bilophila (P= 0.033) were statistically significantly more common in those without irAEs.DiscussionOur Study suggests that the analysis of the gut microbiota may provide future predictive markers for the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy or the selection of candidates for fecal transplantation for cancer immunotherapy
The ability of contemporary cardiologists to judge the ischemic impact of a coronary lesion visually
Background: Landmark trials showed that invasive pressure measurement (Fractional Flow Reserve, FFR) was a better guide to coronary stenting than visual assessment. However, present-day interventionists have benefited from extensive research and personal experience of mapping anatomy to hemodynamics. Aims: To determine if visual assessment of the angiogram performs as well as invasive measurement of coronary physiology.
Methods: 25 interventional cardiologists independently visually assessed the single vessel coronary disease of 200 randomized participants in The Objective Randomized Blinded Investigation with optimal medical Therapy of Angioplasty in stable angina trial (ORBITA). They gave a visual prediction of the FFR and Instantaneous Wave-free Ratio (iFR), denoted vFFR and viFR respectively. Each judged each lesion on 2 occasions, so that every lesion had 50 vFFR, and 50 viFR assessments. The group consensus visual estimates (vFFR-group and viFR-group) and individual cardiologists' visual estimates (vFFR-individual and viFR-individual) were tested alongside invasively measured FFR and iFR for their ability to predict the placebo-controlled reduction in stress echo ischemia with stenting.
Results: Placebo-controlled ischemia improvement with stenting was predicted by vFFR-group (p < 0.0001) and viFR-group (p < 0.0001), vFFR-individual (p < 0.0001) and viFR-individual (p < 0.0001). There were no significant differences between the predictive performance of the group visual estimates and their invasive counterparts: p = 0.53 for vFFR vs FFR and p = 0.56 for viFR vs iFR.
Conclusion: Visual assessment of the angiogram by contemporary experts, provides significant additional information on the amount of ischaemia which can be relieved by placebo-controlled stenting in single vessel coronary artery disease
