Selection Determinants In Education Major Graduates Occupations

Taiwan’s teacher training system currently faces a serious disorder. The excessive number of teacher education programs being set up in universities by the Ministry of Education has dramatically increased the number of teachers. The situation, coupled with the country of low birth rate and high retirement age, brings about fewer teaching vacancies than the number of available teachers. The over-expansion of universities has resulted in a situation that almost every secondary school graduate can access higher education institutions, which subsequently produce a great number of graduates, far exceeding the vacancies in the workplace. This plus with the recent economic recession intensifies competition among individuals hunting for jobs. Thus, it is imperative to identify the ideal jobs for graduates, and the first step is figuring out the main determinants for selecting jobs and the relative importance of these determinants. A self-developed questionnaire was administered to 200 education major graduates in Taiwan. The result indicated that high job stability was perceived to be the most important factor among participants. Also, the education students considered school teacher or administrator to be the ideal jobs

Graphlet and Orbit Computation on Heterogeneous Graphs

Many applications, ranging from natural to social sciences, rely on graphlet analysis for the intuitive and meaningful characterization of networks employing micro-level structures as building blocks. However, it has not been thoroughly explored in heterogeneous graphs, which comprise various types of nodes and edges. Finding graphlets and orbits for heterogeneous graphs is difficult because of the heterogeneity and abundance of semantic information. We consider heterogeneous graphs, which can be treated as colored graphs. By applying the canonical label technique, we determine the graph isomorphism problem with multiple states on nodes and edges. With minimal parameters, we build all non-isomorphic graphs and associated orbits. We provide a Python package that can be used to generate orbits for colored directed graphs and determine the frequency of orbit occurrence. Finally, we provide four examples to illustrate the use of the Python package.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figure

Why Attention? Analyze BiLSTM Deficiency and Its Remedies in the Case of NER

BiLSTM has been prevalently used as a core module for NER in a sequence-labeling setup. State-of-the-art approaches use BiLSTM with additional resources such as gazetteers, language-modeling, or multi-task supervision to further improve NER. This paper instead takes a step back and focuses on analyzing problems of BiLSTM itself and how exactly self-attention can bring improvements. We formally show the limitation of (CRF-)BiLSTM in modeling cross-context patterns for each word -- the XOR limitation. Then, we show that two types of simple cross-structures -- self-attention and Cross-BiLSTM -- can effectively remedy the problem. We test the practical impacts of the deficiency on real-world NER datasets, OntoNotes 5.0 and WNUT 2017, with clear and consistent improvements over the baseline, up to 8.7% on some of the multi-token entity mentions. We give in-depth analyses of the improvements across several aspects of NER, especially the identification of multi-token mentions. This study should lay a sound foundation for future improvements on sequence-labeling NER. (Source codes: https://github.com/jacobvsdanniel/cross-ner)Comment: In proceedings of AAAI 202

Enhancing The Quality Of University Career Services In Taiwan: Perceptions Of University Alumni

    Get PDF
An adequate supply of a high quality labor force is crucial for national economic and social well-being; consequently, nations worldwide have placed significant emphasis on university graduate employability. Nonetheless, in Taiwan, a mismatch between knowledge acquired in universities and competences required by the job market has dramatically encumbered the supply of a high quality labor force. Thus, this research endeavored to determine the major career services that should be offered in higher educational institutions to alleviate the aforementioned human resource problems. The analytic hierarchy process was adopted as the major instrument for calculating the relative importance of each career service task, and 169 university alumni working in four major career fields participated in this research. The results indicated that participants from different career fields and who graduated from different colleges at different times have very different opinions of job service requests; therefore, universities should seriously consider the differences among students and provide the necessary services for each student in line with his/her particular requests. Moreover, although almost all participants agreed that sharpening students’ job-search and interview skills was crucial in assisting students to find their first jobs, this service was extremely insufficient in universities, and universities thus have to place particular emphasis on this task in the future

Onchain Sports Betting using UBET Automated Market Maker

The paper underscores how decentralization in sports betting addresses the drawbacks of traditional centralized platforms, ensuring transparency, security, and lower fees. Non-custodial solutions empower bettors with ownership of funds, bypassing geographical restrictions. Decentralized platforms enhance security, privacy, and democratic decision-making. However, decentralized sports betting necessitates automated market makers (AMMs) for efficient liquidity provision. Existing AMMs like Uniswap lack alignment with fair odds, creating risks for liquidity providers. To mitigate this, the paper introduces UBET AMM (UAMM), utilizing smart contracts and algorithms to price sports odds fairly. It establishes an on-chain betting framework, detailing market creation, UAMM application, collateral liquidity pools, and experiments that exhibit positive outcomes. UAMM enhances decentralized sports betting by ensuring liquidity, decentralized pricing, and global accessibility, promoting trustless and efficient betting

    UAMM: UBET Automated Market Maker

Automated market makers (AMMs) are pricing mechanisms utilized by decentralized exchanges (DEX). Traditional AMM approaches are constrained by pricing solely based on their own liquidity pool, without consideration of external markets or risk management for liquidity providers. In this paper, we propose a new approach known as UBET AMM (UAMM), which calculates prices by considering external market prices and the impermanent loss of the liquidity pool. Despite relying on external market prices, our method maintains the desired properties of a constant product curve when computing slippages. The key element of UAMM is determining the appropriate slippage amount based on the desired target balance, which encourages the liquidity pool to minimize impermanent loss. We demonstrate that our approach eliminates arbitrage opportunities when external market prices are efficient

COMPARISON OF MOVEMENT CHARACTERISTIC AND MUSCLE ACTIVATION BETWEEN DIFFERENT FITNESS HOOPS

Purpose: To compare the movement characteristics and muscle activation between Hula Hoop (HL) and Mini Hoop (MH). Methods: Sixteen healthy females randomly used HL and MH three minutes, respectively. Motion Analysis System and Noraxon wireless surface electromyography (EMG) were used to measure the movement characteristics and muscle activation. The paired t-test was used to test the difference between MH and HL. Results: The HL had larger in range of hip motion and root mean square of EMG in spinal erectors than MH (p < .05); the MH had higher in movement frequency (cycles per second) and median frequency of EMG in spinal erectors than HL (p < .05). Conclusion: Two fitness hoops have different movement characteristics and muscle action due to the different equipment design
