Dielectric and conductivity relaxation in mixtures of glycerol with LiCl
We report a thorough dielectric characterization of the alpha relaxation of
glass forming glycerol with varying additions of LiCl. Nine salt concentrations
from 0.1 - 20 mol% are investigated in a frequency range of 20 Hz - 3 GHz and
analyzed in the dielectric loss and modulus representation. Information on the
dc conductivity, the dielectric relaxation time (from the loss) and the
conductivity relaxation time (from the modulus) is provided. Overall, with
increasing ion concentration, a transition from reorientationally to
translationally dominated behavior is observed and the translational ion
dynamics and the dipolar reorientational dynamics become successively coupled.
This gives rise to the prospect that by adding ions to dipolar glass formers,
dielectric spectroscopy may directly couple to the translational degrees of
freedom determining the glass transition, even in frequency regimes where
usually strong decoupling is observed.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
Lower limit on the neutralino mass in the general MSSM
We discuss constraints on SUSY models with non-unified gaugino masses and R_P
conservation. We derive a lower bound on the neutralino mass combining the
direct limits from LEP, the indirect limits from gmuon, bsgamma, Bsmumu and the
relic density constraint from WMAP. The lightest neutralino (mneutralino=6GeV)
is found in models with a light pseudoscalar with MA<200GeV and a large value
for . Models with heavy pseudoscalars lead to mneutralino>18(29)GeV
for . We show that even a very conservative bound from the
muon anomalous magnetic moment can increase the lower bound on the neutralino
mass in models with mu<0 and/or large values of . We then examine
the potential of the Tevatron and the direct detection experiments to probe the
SUSY models with the lightest neutralinos allowed in the context of light
pseudoscalars with high . We also examine the potential of an e+e-
collider of 500GeV to produce SUSY particles in all models with neutralinos
lighter than the W. In contrast to the mSUGRA models, observation of at least

Digitizing the Seminar Paper. A graduate student perspective on how digital tools shape scholarship
In the early twentieth century, Grand Rapids, Michigan addressed a major political scandal, which was the tipping point of municipal politics in Grand Rapids between politics rooted in personal connections and those centered on business-like administration. However, reform moved slowly, hindered by the social and spatial relationships of the élite. Using digital tools in a digital history seminar shaped my analysis of these personal and spatial relations. As a vital step in my research process, the construction of a digital project not only informed my written argument, but also fundamentally shaped it. It also reveals the importance of small scale digital research projects, made accessible through the use of open access tools, in the ultimate widespread adoption of the digital humanities
