Dynamic defects in photonic Floquet topological insulators

Edge modes in topological insulators are known to be robust against defects. We investigate if this also holds true when the defect is not static, but varies in time. We study the influence of defects with time-dependent coupling on the robustness of the transport along the edge in a Floquet system of helically curved waveguides. Waveguide arrays are fabricated via direct laser writing in a negative tone photoresist. We find that single dynamic defects do not destroy the chiral edge current, even when the temporal modulation is strong. Quantitative numerical simulation of the intensity in the bulk and edge waveguides confirms our observation

Revealing single emitter spectral dynamics from intensity correlations in an ensemble fluorescence spectrum

We show that the single emitter linewidth underlying a broadened ensemble emission spectrum can be extracted from correlations among the stochastic intensity fluctuations in the ensemble spectrum. Spectral correlations can be observed at high temporal and spectral resolutions with a cross-correlated pair of avalanche photodiodes placed at the outputs of a scanning Michelson interferometer. As illustrated with simulations in conjunction with Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy, our approach overcomes ensemble and temporal inhomogeneous broadening to provide single emitter linewidths, even for emitters under weak, continuous, broadband excitation.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

Direct laser written polymer waveguides with out of plane couplers for optical chips

Optical technologies call for waveguide networks featuring high integration densities, low losses, and simple operation. Here, we present polymer waveguides fabricated from a negative tone photoresist via two-photon-lithography in direct laser writing, and show a detailed parameter study of their performance. Specifically, we produce waveguides featuring bend radii down to 40 {\mu}m, insertion losses of the order of 10 dB, and loss coefficients smaller than 0.81 dB/mm, facilitating high integration densities in writing fields of 300 {\mu}m x 300 {\mu}m. A novel three-dimensional coupler design allows for coupling control as well as direct observation of outputs in a single field of view through a microscope objective. Finally, we present beam-splitting devices to construct larger optical networks, and we show that the waveguide material is compatible with the integration of quantum emitters

Negative-index bi-anisotropic photonic metamaterial fabricated by direct laser writing and silver shadow evaporation

We present the blueprint for a novel negative-index metamaterial. This structure is fabricated via three-dimensional two-photon direct laser writing and silver shadow evaporation. The comparison of measured linear optical spectra with theory shows good agreement and reveals a negative real part of the refractive index at around 3.85 micrometer wavelength - despite the fact that the metamaterial structure is bi-anisotropic due to the lack of inversion symmetry along its surface normal.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

In this paper, the possibility of modifying the surface of a hypereutectic silumin (Al-(18-24) wt.%Si) is shown. Modification of the samples was carried out in two stages. At the first stage, a "film (Zr-5% Ti-5% Cu) / (Al- (18-24) wt.% Si) film system was formed by an ion-plasma method with an arc-sputtering of a Zr-5% Ti-5 cathode % Cu in the "TRIO" installation (IHCE SB RAS). In the second stage, the surface layer of the silumin of the hypereutectic composition was doped by melting the "film-substrate" system with an intense pulsed electron beam at the "SOLO" installation
