Half-flat structures on indecomposable Lie groups

This article can be viewed as a continuation of the articles arXiv:0912.3486 and arXiv:1012.3714 where the decomposable Lie algebras admitting half-flat SU(3)-structures are classified. The new main result is the classification of the indecomposable six-dimensional Lie algebras with five-dimensional nilradical which admit a half-flat SU(3)-structure. As an important step of the proof, a considerable refinement of the classification of six-dimensional Lie algebras with five-dimensional non-Abelian nilradical is established. Additionally, it is proved that all non-solvable six-dimensional Lie algebras admit half-flat SU(3)-structures.Comment: 25 pages, v2: minor corrections due to the new classification of the six-dimensional Lie algebras with five-dimensional nilradical by Shabanskay

Distribution, Bars, and Arcade Stars: Joe Anthony’s Entrepreneurial Expansion in Houston’s Gay Media Industries

This article develops the concept of gay useful media to explore a case study of gay entrepreneurship in Houston, Texas, of the 1970s. A father and son developed a gay media empire in the city, which spanned bars, bookstores, distribution, and vending. One of the pair\u27s key establishments was Houston\u27s legendary gay bar Mary\u27s at 1022 Westheimer (also known as Mary\u27s Lounge, Mary\u27s, Naturally, and Mary\u27s…Naturally)

Cocalibrated structures on Lie algebras with a codimension one Abelian ideal

Cocalibrated G_2-structures and cocalibrated G_2^*-structures are the natural initial values for Hitchin's evolution equations whose solutions define (pseudo)-Riemannian manifolds with holonomy group contained in Spin(7) or Spin_0(3,4), respectively. In this article, we classify which seven-dimensional real Lie algebras with a codimension one Abelian ideal admit such structures. Moreover, we classify the seven-dimensional complex Lie algebras with a codimension one Abelian ideal which admit cocalibrated (G_2)_C-structures.Comment: 18 pages, v2: typos correcte

Distribution Struggle: Assembling a Media History of J. Brian’s Enterprises with Court Proceedings and Public Records

This article introduces the concept of “distribution struggle”—the panoply of cultural and industrial conflicts that must be traced and accounted for in distribution histories—to sequence a primary-sourced media history of J. Brian’s gay media enterprises. In tracing this history, primary sources are surprisingly accessible, and provide new insights into J. Brian’s industrial operations. By triangulating archival records with secondary accounts, this article provides a more nuanced cultural and industrial portrait of J. Brian. It argues that media industry historiography must frame historical narratives by accounting for the cultural and industrial struggles that culminated in the available archival sources, in this case, an accounting for the fact that the public record traces of J. Brian exist because of anti-gay interventions in gay media distribution
