A first-order Green's function approach to supersonic oscillatory flow: A mixed analytic and numeric treatment
A frequency domain Green's Function Method for unsteady supersonic potential flow around complex aircraft configurations is presented. The focus is on the supersonic range wherein the linear potential flow assumption is valid. In this range the effects of the nonlinear terms in the unsteady supersonic compressible velocity potential equation are negligible and therefore these terms will be omitted. The Green's function method is employed in order to convert the potential flow differential equation into an integral one. This integral equation is then discretized, through standard finite element technique, to yield a linear algebraic system of equations relating the unknown potential to its prescribed co-normalwash (boundary condition) on the surface of the aircraft. The arbitrary complex aircraft configuration (e.g., finite-thickness wing, wing-body-tail) is discretized into hyperboloidal (twisted quadrilateral) panels. The potential and co-normalwash are assumed to vary linearly within each panel. The long range goal is to develop a comprehensive theory for unsteady supersonic potential aerodynamic which is capable of yielding accurate results even in the low supersonic (i.e., high transonic) range

Probing new physics with coherent neutrino scattering off nuclei
The possibility off measuring for the first time neutrino-nuclei coherent
scattering has been recently discussed by several experimental collaborations.
It is shown that such a measurement may be very sensitive to non-standard
interactions of neutrinos with quarks and might set better constraints than
those coming from future neutrino factory experiments. We also comment on other
types of new physics tests, such as extra heavy neutral gauge bosons, where the
sensitivity to some models is slightly better than the Tevatron constraint and,
therefore, could give complementary bounds.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures Discussion about Z prime corrected and extended.

COBE ground segment attitude determination
The Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) spacecraft was launched in November 1989 by NASA to survey the sky for primordial radiation left from the Big Bang explosion. The success of the mission requires an accurate determination of the spacecraft attitude. While the accuracy of the attitude obtained from the attitude sensors is adequate for two of the experiments, the higher accuracy required by the Diffuse Infrared Background Experiment (DIRBE) is obtained by using the DIRBE instrument as a special type of star sensor. Presented here is an overview of the attitude processing algorithms used at the Cosmology Data Analysis Center (CDAC) and the results obtained from the flight data
Three flavour Quark matter in chiral colour dielectric model
We investigate the properties of quark matter at finite density and
temperature using the nonlinear chiral extension of Colour Dielectric Model
(CCM). Assuming that the square of the meson fields devlop non- zero vacuum
expectation value, the thermodynamic potential for interacting three flavour
matter has been calculated. It is found that remain zero
in the medium whereas changes in the medium. As a result, and
quark masses decrease monotonically as the temperature and density of the quark
matter is increased. In the present model, the deconfinement density and
temperature is found to be lower compared to lattice results. We also study the
behaviour of pressure and energy density above critical temperature.Comment: Latex file. 5 figures available on request. To appear in Phys. Rev.
The group approach to AdS space propagators: A fast algorithm
In this letter we show how the method of [4] for the calculation of two-point
functions in d+1-dimensional AdS space can be simplified. This results in an
algorithm for the evaluation of the two-point functions as linear combinations
of Legendre functions of the second kind. This algorithm can be easily
implemented on a computer. For the sake of illustration, we displayed the
results for the case of symmetric traceless tensor fields with rank up to l=4.Comment: 14 pages, comment adde
Atmospheric, Evolutionary, and Spectral Models of the Brown Dwarf Gliese 229 B
Theoretical spectra and evolutionary models that span the giant planet--brown
dwarf continuum have been computed based on the recent discovery of the brown
dwarf, Gliese 229 B. A flux enhancement in the 4--5 micron window is a
universal feature from Jovian planets to brown dwarfs. We confirm the existence
of methane and water in Gl 229 B's spectrum and find its mass to be 30 to 55
Jovian masses. Although these calculations focus on Gliese 229 B, they are also
meant to guide future searches for extra-solar giant planets and brown dwarfs.Comment: 8 pages, plain TeX, plus four postscript figures, gzipped and

COBE ground segment gyro calibration
Discussed here is the calibration of the scale factors and rate biases for the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) spacecraft gyroscopes, with the emphasis on the adaptation for COBE of an algorithm previously developed for the Solar Maximum Mission. Detailed choice of parameters, convergence, verification, and use of the algorithm in an environment where the reference attitudes are determined form the Sun, Earth, and star observations (via the Diffuse Infrared Background Experiment (DIRBE) are considered. Results of some recent experiments are given. These include tests where the gyro rate data are corrected for the effect of the gyro baseplate temperature on the spacecraft electronics
