Determinants Of The Size Of The Nonprofit Sector
Using comparable cross-section data on expenditures and labor force in the nonprofit sector for a sample of 25 nations, I test a series of hypotheses about their determinants. A small number of variables, of which the level of economic development and the role of government, are the most important and can explain over half of the variance in the sample in most cases

This article compares the separate occupational distributions of U.S. male and female workers who are 45 to 65 with those over 65 (the “elderly”) to test a series of simple conjectures about the different occupational structures of the two age groups. Water Stress And Water Wars
This essay argues three propositions: (1) by 2025 roughly one third of the world\u27s population will be living in countries which are water-stressed, at least by conventional criteria; (2) nevertheless, macro evidence does not portend that the world will be unable to feed its growing population at that time; (3) interstate armed conflicts over water, which were not very important in the last quarter of the twentieth century, seem unlikely to become more intense in the coming decades, especially since most countries have not utilized the enormous possibilities for saving scarce water
