Men of Color: A Role for Policymakers in Improving the Status of Black Male Students in U.S. Higher Education
This report calls for greater involvement by federal and state policymakers and others to improve black male college readiness and completion. It presents policy-relevant trends concerning black male college students, highlights promising practices on campuses across the country, and proposes suggestions for policymakers and other stakeholders
Examining the Status of Men of Color in California Community Colleges: Recommendations for State Policymakers
This report documents specific policy interventions that can be implemented in California to improve outcomes for men of color in community colleges. These recommendations were presented to the Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color in October 2013
Imperfect Information and the Business Cycle
Imperfect information has played a prominent role in modern business cycle theory. We assess its importance by estimating the New Keynesian (NK) model under alternative informational assumptions. One version focuses on confusion between temporary and persistent disturbances. Another, on unobserved variation in the inflation target of the central bank. A third on persistent misperceptions of the state of the economy (measurement error). And a fourth assumes perfect information (the standard NK-DSGE version). We find that imperfect information contains considerable explanatory power for business fluctuations. Signal extraction seems to provide a conceptually satisfactory, empirically plausible and quantitatively important business cycle mechanism.New Keynesian model, imperfect information, signal extraction, Bayesian estimation
Recurrence Formulas for Fully Exponentially Correlated Four-Body Wavefunctions
Formulas are presented for the recursive generation of four-body integrals in
which the integrand consists of arbitrary integer powers (>= -1) of all the
interparticle distances r_ij, multiplied by an exponential containing an
arbitrary linear combination of all the r_ij. These integrals are
generalizations of those encountered using Hylleraas basis functions, and
include all that are needed to make energy computations on the Li atom and
other four-body systems with a fully exponentially correlated Slater-type basis
of arbitrary quantum numbers. The only quantities needed to start the recursion
are the basic four-body integral first evaluated by Fromm and Hill, plus some
easily evaluated three-body "boundary" integrals. The computational labor in
constructing integral sets for practical computations is less than when the
integrals are generated using explicit formulas obtained by differentiating the
basic integral with respect to its parameters. Computations are facilitated by
using a symbolic algebra program (MAPLE) to compute array index pointers and
present syntactically correct FORTRAN source code as output; in this way it is
possible to obtain error-free high-speed evaluations with minimal effort. The
work can be checked by verifying sum rules the integrals must satisfy.Comment: 10 pages, no figures, accepted by Phys. Rev. A (January 2009

Polyimides comprising substituted benzidines
A new class of polyimides and copolyimides made from substituted benzidines and aromatic dianhydrides and other aromatic diamines. The polyimides obtained with said diamines are distinguished by excellent thermal, excellent solubility, excellent electrical properties such as very low dielectric constants, excellent clarity and mechanical properties making the polyimides ideally suited as coating materials for microelectronic apparatii, as membranes for selective molecular or gas separation, as fibers in molecular composites, as high tensile strength, high compression strength fibers, as film castable coatings, or as fabric components
Poly-phenylated diamines and their use as polycondensation monomers in the synthesis of polyamide, poly(amide-imide), and polyimide polymers
New polyphenylated polynuclear aromatic diamines, such as 1,3-bis[4-aminophenyl]-2,3,5-triphenylbenzene, a process for their manufacture and their use as polycondensation components for the manufacture of polyamide, polyamide-imide and polyimide polymers are described. The polymers obtained with the aromatic diamines according to the invention are readily soluble, rigid-rod polymers and are distinguished by outstanding modulus, tensile compression strength, energy absorption, coefficient of expansion and electrical properties
Thermoplastic polymides and composites therefrom
A new class polyimide and polyimide precursors based on diaryl oxyalkylene diamines, such as 1,3-bis[4-aminophenoxy]-2,2-dimethyl propane, a process for their preparation and their use as the continuous phase for the manufacture of composites and composite laminates reinforced by reinforcing agents such as carbon fibers, Kevlar.TM., and other similar high strength reinforcing agents. The polyimides and molecular composites obtained from the diamines according to the invention show thermoplastic properties, excellent flex fatigue and fracture resistance, and excellent thermal and oxidative stability
