Implications of the isotope effects on the magnetization, magnetic torque and susceptibility
We analyze the magnetization, magnetic torque and susceptibility data of
La2-xSrxCu(16,18)O4 and YBa2(63,65)CuO7-x near Tc in terms of the universal
3D-XY scaling relations. It is shown that the isotope effect on Tc mirrors that
on the anisotropy. Invoking the generic behavior of the anisotropy the doping
dependence of the isotope effects on the critical properties, including Tc,
correlation lengths and magnetic penetration depths are traced back to a change
of the mobile carrier concentration.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Mechanisms for Lasing with Cold Atoms as the Gain Medium
We realize a laser with a cloud of cold rubidium atoms as gain medium, placed
in a low-finesse cavity. Three different regimes of laser emission are observed
corresponding respectively to Mollow, Raman and Four Wave Mixing mechanisms. We
measure an output power of up to 300 W and present the main properties of
these different lasers in each regime
Intrinsic and structural isotope effects in Fe-based superconductors
The currently available results of the isotope effect on the superconducting
transition temperature T_c in Fe-based high-temperature superconductors (HTS)
are highly controversial. The values of the Fe isotope effect (Fe-IE) exponent
\alpha_Fe for various families of Fe-based HTS were found to be as well
positive, as negative, or even be exceedingly larger than the BCS value
\alpha_BCS=0.5. Here we demonstrate that the Fe isotope substitution causes
small structural modifications which, in turn, affect T_c. Upon correcting the
isotope effect exponent for these structural effects, an almost unique value of
\alpha~0.35-0.4 is observed for at least three different families of Fe-based

Oxygen-isotope effect on the superconducting gap in the cuprate superconductor Y_{1-x}Pr_xBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}
The oxygen-isotope (^{16}O/^{18}O) effect (OIE) on the zero-temperature
superconducting energy gap \Delta_0 was studied for a series of
Y_{1-x}Pr_xBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta} samples (0.0\leq x\leq0.45). The OIE on
\Delta_0 was found to scale with the one on the superconducting transition
temperature. These experimental results are in quantitative agreement with
predictions from a polaronic model for cuprate high-temperature superconductors
and rule out approaches based on purely electronic mechanisms.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Thermochemistry of a New Class of Materials Containing Dinitrogen Pairs in an Oxide Matrix
International audienceA series of N 2 -containing perovskite phases was prepared in the La-(Ba)-Ti-O system in order to study the dinitrogen retention phenomenon from a thermochemical viewpoint. High-temperature oxide melt solution calorimetry was undertaken to determine the energetics of the corresponding startingoxynitrides, intermediate phases, and oxides. Calorimetric results show that nitrogen is weakly bound within the oxide matrix and most of the enthalpy of oxidation of the intermediate phase is devoted to its structure change between the starting perovskite structure and the formation of a layered-perovskiteLa2Ti2O7 oxide
Supersymmetric structure of the induced W gravities
We derive the supersymmetric structure present in W-gravities which has been
already observed in various contexts as Yang-Mills theory, topological field
theories, bosonic string and chiral W_{3}-gravity. This derivation which is
made in the geometrical framework of Zucchini, necessitates the introduction of
an appropriate new basis of variables which replace the canonical fields and
their derivatives. This construction is used, in the W_{2}-case, to deduce from

Correlation between oxygen isotope effects on the transition temperature and the magnetic penetration depth in high-temperature superconductors close to optimal doping
The oxygen-isotope (^{16}O/^{18}O) effect (OIE) on the in-plane magnetic
penetration depth \lambda_{ab}(0) in optimally-doped YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta} and
La_{1.85}Sr_{0.15}CuO_4, and in slightly underdoped YBa_2Cu_4O_8 and
Y_{0.8}Pr_{0.2}Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta} was studied by means of muon-spin rotation.
A substantial OIE on \lambda_{ab}(0) with an OIE exponent
\beta_O=-d\ln\lambda_{ab}(0)/d\ln M_O\approx - 0.2 (M_O is the mass of the
oxygen isotope), and a small OIE on the transition temperature T_c with an OIE
exponent \alpha_O=-d\ln T_{c}/d \ln M_O\simeq0.02 to 0.1 were observed. The
observation of a substantial isotope effect on \lambda_{ab}(0), even in
cuprates where the OIE on T_c is small, indicates that lattice effects play an
important role in cuprate HTS.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
