This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of methods of disinfection of alginate contaminated with Candida albicans through the use of peracetic acid and Lippia sidoides. C. albicans ATCC 10231 were developed for 48 h. In sequence, the alginate discs (Hydrogum 5) were infected with C. albicans for 3 min. Except the control group (only contamination) or initial flushing, all discs underwent disinfection with peracetic acid (immersion or spray) for 5 min or Lippia sidoides spray (5 or 10 min). Cell quantification was performed after immediate contamination and after 5 days. The data were analysed by ANOVA followed by Tukey test (? = 0.05). The discs that were only contaminated showed the highest growth of C. albicans in the immediate analysis and after 5 days (p <0.05). Discs with only initial flushing had higher growth of microorganisms than those which were disinfected, independent of analysis time (p <0.05). In relation to disinfected discs, there was no growth of microorganisms, regardless of the material used, form of presentation, disinfection time and time analysis (p> 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the peracetic acid and Lippia sidoides spray had fungicide power in the disinfection of alginate molds.
