    Fuzzy Nominal Scales

International audienceThis paper presents how a representation with fuzzy subsets of symbols can be used to build a scale. Then, the incidence of the fuzziness on this new kind of nominal scale, called fuzzy nominal scale, is analysed

Building a class of fuzzy equivalence relations

    Get PDF
International audienceIn this paper, we propose a practical method, given a strict triangular norm with a convex additive generator, for deriving a fuzzy equivalence relation whose reflexivity condition generalizes Ruspini's definition of fuzzy partitions. The properties of the relations, their comparison, their transitivity, the construction of fuzzy equivalence relations on cartesian products are presented. A large part of the paper is devoted to applications with fuzzy partitions defined on the real line. Several examples, including the fairy-tale problem from De Cock and Kerre [On (un)suitable fuzzy relations to model approximate equality, Fuzzy Sets and Systems 133 (2) (2003) 137-153], the comparison of colored objects and comfort situations are proposed

Towards a unified descriptive framework for industrial objective declaration and performance measurement

International audienceExpressing the performance of industrial companies is an important feature for their continuous improvement. As the performance concept refers to the objective one, our idea is to relate the performance expression mechanism to that of the objective declaration. We propose a variable tree framework to describe the break-down of objectives and the expression of the performances, highlighting the multicriteria aspect of both the performance and the objectives. Moreover, the temporal aspects of the objective declarations are emphasised, leading to the introduction of both the objective and the performance temporal trajectories. Such trajectories take into account the whole of the temporal horizon that is associated with the achievement of the objective. The link between the provided trees and trajectories is established through the elementary objective notion which corresponds to the leaves of the trees. A conventional recursive depth-first search algorithm is applied to the variable tree for the computation of the corresponding performances, at any considered milestone of the temporal horizon. Finally, the overall throughput time of the hydraulic cylinders manufacturing line of the Bosch Rexroth Company is considered to illustrate the proposed ideas

Processorless Smart Sensors with Distributed Intelligence

    Get PDF
International audienceIn the proposed approach, smart sensors own the definition of the software functionalities but are no longer able to execute them locally. Thanks to the network, these software functionalities are sent to a smart sensor, to a smart actuator or to a common resource that has computation facilities

Automatic code generation based on generic description of intelligent instrument

    Get PDF
International audienceThis paper presents an automatic outputs generation based on XML description of intelligent instruments. This description uses the service based approach called INOMs. The XML representation of intelligent instruments enables three different outputs: user informations output in html format, supervisor information output, and source code output for selected field bus network target. The intelligent instrument model is briefly described and the area of interest consists in the automatic code generation. A basic example is presented in order to illustrate the different steps and to show the simplicity of the operational implementation

The transportation distance for fuzzy descriptions of measurement

    Get PDF
International audienceFuzzy nominal scales were introduced in order to propose a formalism to the representation of empirical quantities by fuzzy subsets of words. This scale proposes a similarity relation and an associated bounded distance that can be used to perform signal processing on fuzzy subsets of words. Due to the limits of this last distance, we studied distances associated to this formalism and proposed a new distance operator named transportation distance. This paper presents the results of these studies

    A fuzzy colour sensor

6 pagesInternational audienceThe aim of this paper is to propose a new method for building a fuzzy partition on multi-dimensional spaces. This method is based on a linear interpolation performed by means of Delaunay's triangulation of the multi-dimensional space. It is applied for creating fuzzy symbolic sensors which use multi-component measurements. Colour sensing is an interesting problem for applying this method. Indeed, humans have good control on this sensing but can not explain it simply. Fuzzy colour sensors can learn human perception of colours whithout explicit knowledge about the perception mechanisms
