    Get PDF
ABSTRACT There are three major types of the diabetes: type 1, type 2, gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes starts from childhood and pancreas stops producing insulin. Type 2 diabetes our body can't use the insulin it makes. Type 3 diabetes Diabetes when you're expecting affects about 4% of all U.S. pregnancies [1]. It's caused by placenta hormones or by too little insulin. High blood sugar from the mother causes high blood sugar in the baby. This results in growth and development problems if left untreate

ABSTRACT The compounds which were synthesized and presented in this project serve as stable models of reactive intermediates, proposed in catalytic transformations with the ruthenium counterparts. It is also of general interest to study the reactivity of trimethylphosphine stabilized iron compounds toward aromatic imines and ketones. Other than some cyclomanganated products, there are no examples of cyclometalated products of 3d row transition metals with imines. In this section, a review of reactions in the activation and functionalization of C-H bonds by solution-phase transition metal-based systems are presented, with an emphasis on the activation of aromatic C-H bonds. Phenyl ketimines react smoothly under mild conditions with low-valent iron (0) adducts to form five-membered metallacycles. The reaction of Diphenylketimine and tertbutylphenylketimine with Fe(PMe3)4 generates a hydrido-iron (II) complex 1,2 respectively. Iodomethane reactions of hydrido-iron compound form iodo-iron (II) complex 3. Benzylic imine react with Fe(CH3)2(PMe3)4 by elimination of methane to afford hexacoordinate methyl-iron(II) complex 4. All complexes are given from 1-4 were characterized through IR, NMR and X-ray diffraction was discussed

ABSTRACT The ependymal lining of the central canal in response to injury was investigated in young rats. A unilateral incision on the dorsolateral aspect of the spinal cord (thoraco-lumbar region) was made, after laminectomy, without injuring the ependyma after laminectomy. The sham operated controlled and lesioned spinal cords at different periods, from day 1 to 21 (post-operative) were processed for light microscopy. It was observed that the lumen of the central canal of the lesioned spinal cords was collapsed, irregular and lined by stratified layer (3to 4 layers) of ependyma. The ependymal cells in the lesioned spinal cords proliferated in response to injury. The ependyma lining the central canal of the spinal cord in rats retains regenerative capacity -a phylogenetic feature of lower forms which can be evoked by a local injury

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Tin (Sn) addition on Band gap (Eg) and Dc conductivity of Se-Te-Sn semi-conducting glasses. This is an effort towards the understanding of physics of temperature dependence of dc electrical volume conductivity of Se75Te25-xSnx (X= 2, 4, 6 & 8) glasses in bulk form. These Chalcogenide glasses were prepared by melt quenching (rapid cooling of melt) technique. The amorphous nature of as prepared glass was confirmed by XRD. Using Keithley Electrometer / High resistance Meter 6517 A, the I-V characteristics of these glasses have been recorded in a temperature range from room temperature to 100ËšC. Additionally, the Poole-Frenkel conduction mechanism has also been verified in order to investigate the good agreement with the established fact that most of Chalcogenide glasses obey Poole-Frenkel conduction mechanism. To calculate the Band gap, with the help of Ocean Optics Spectrophotometer, absorption spectra has been recorded. Analysis of these absorption spectra using Tauc relation reveals that these glasses are semiconducting and direct band gap material

ABSTRACT Ginkgo biloba extract was evaluated for prophylactic value against renal ischemia-reperfusion induced oxidant stress in rat subjected to transient unilateral renal artery ligation. Oral Ginkgo biloba treatment (2mg/kg) was administered by different schedule before experimental induction of ischemia-reperfusion injury. Malondialdehyde has been taken as indicator for free radical damage produced by ischemia-reperfusion injury. Three hour pretreatment by the drug has most prominent inhibitory effect on consequent tissue and plasma malondialdehyde level of lipid peroxidation. Further, the relative inhibition of malondialdehyde level in tissue and plasma allow to infer drug effect on generation, but not the clearance of malondialdehyde. No significant difference of outcome from 1, 2 and 3 days treatment indicate no cumulation and thus safety in that respect. Ginkgo biloba treatment appears both effective and safe for prophylaxis of reperfusion injury following ischemia catastrophies

New concept of solar thermal power generation combined with aluminum and supercritical CO2 gas turbine

Paper presented to the 3rd Southern African Solar Energy Conference, South Africa, 11-13 May, 2015.Existing tower type solar power plants consist of a sunbeam collecting system of a solar power tower with heliostats, a molten salt heat transfer and heat storage system, and a steam turbine power generation system. In a new system, the molten salt is replaced by aluminum. The steam turbine is replaced by a supercritical CO2 gas turbine, which can achieve 48% cycle thermal efficiency with turbine inlet temperature of 650°C. In addition, the concentrating power tower is replaced by a beam-down solar system to reduce the radiation loss at the receiver. The aluminum receiver structure and dimensions are shown based on the simplified heat transfer analyses. For the 100 MWt receiver inlet energy, the available power becomes 40.1 MWe at daytime and 8.1 MWe at night.cf201

An experimental study of sweep angle effects on the transition point on a 2D wing by using hot-film sensor

Paper presented at the 9th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Malta, 16-18 July, 2012.Location of transition point over a 2-D swept wing was investigated. A series of wind tunnel tests were performed to predict the transition location over three models of swept wing having same aspect ratio, and at various angles of attack and sweep angles by hot-film anemometer. Two flat plates were used at the ends of the models to prevent the flow to roll up and to reduce the boundary layer effect of the test section on the models, but the flow field on the model was still 3D because of the swept angle effects that led to formation of cross flow over the wing surface. Due to the complexity of the calibration of the hot film sensors, as well as various sources of errors in the calibration process, the hot film sensors were not calibrated and their signal is qualitatively investigated. Data obtained from the hot film sensor signal indicates that as the swept angle increases, the position of transition moves toward the leading edge of the wing due to strengthening of the cross flow about the leading edge, and transition occurs at a smaller angle of attack. Increasing the angle of attack also moved the position of transition point closer to the leading edge of the wing. The transition line is approximately parallel to the x/c local line which may indicate that the strength of cross flow is nearly constant on each line parallel to the c/4 local line.dc201
