Electron trapping and acceleration by the plasma wakefield of a self-modulating proton beam

    Get PDF
It is shown that co-linear injection of electrons or positrons into the wakefield of the self-modulating particle beam is possible and ensures high energy gain. The witness beam must co-propagate with the tail part of the driver, since the plasma wave phase velocity there can exceed the light velocity, which is necessary for efficient acceleration. If the witness beam is many wakefield periods long, then the trapped charge is limited by beam loading effects. The initial trapping is better for positrons, but at the acceleration stage a considerable fraction of positrons is lost from the wave. For efficient trapping of electrons, the plasma boundary must be sharp, with the density transition region shorter than several centimeters. Positrons are not susceptible to the initial plasma density gradient.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures, 1 table, 44 reference

Whirling Waves and the Aharonov-Bohm Effect for Relativistic Spinning Particles

    Get PDF
The formulation of Berry for the Aharonov-Bohm effect is generalized to the relativistic regime. Then, the problem of finding the self-adjoint extensions of the (2+1)-dimensional Dirac Hamiltonian, in an Aharonov-Bohm background potential, is solved in a novel way. The same treatment also solves the problem of finding the self-adjoint extensions of the Dirac Hamiltonian in a background Aharonov-Casher

R-matrices of three-state Hamiltonians solvable by Coordinate Bethe Ansatz

We review some of the strategies that can be implemented to infer an RR-matrix from the knowledge of its Hamiltonian. We apply them to the classification achieved in arXiv:1306.6303, on three state U(1)U(1)-invariant Hamiltonians solvable by CBA, focusing on models for which the SS-matrix is not trivial. For the 19-vertex solutions, we recover the RR-matrices of the well-known Zamolodchikov--Fateev and Izergin--Korepin models. We point out that the generalized Bariev Hamiltonian is related to both main and special branches studied by Martins in arXiv:1303.4010, that we prove to generate the same Hamiltonian. The 19-vertex SpR model still resists to the analysis, although we are able to state some no-go theorems on its RR-matrix. For 17-vertex Hamiltonians, we produce a new RR-matrix.Comment: 22 page

WCAM: secured video surveillance with digital rights management

    Get PDF
The WCAM project aims to provide an integrated system for secure delivery of video surveillance data over a wireless network, while remaining scalable and robust to transmission errors. To achieve these goals., the content is encoded in Motion-JPEG2000 and streamed with a specific RTP protocol encapsulation to prevent the loss of packets containing the most essential data. Protection of the video data is performed at content level using the standardized JPSEC syntax along with flexible encryption of quality layers or resolution levels. This selective encryption respects the JPEG2000 structure of the stream, not only ensuring end-to-end ciphered delivery, but also enabling dynamic content adaptation within the wireless network (quality of service, adaptation to the user's terminal). A DRM (Digital Rights Management) solution, called OpenSDRM is added to manage all authenticated peers on the WLAN (from end-users to cameras), as well as to manage the rights to access and display conditionally the video data. This whole integrated architecture addresses several security problems such as data encryption, integrity, access control and rights management. Using several protection lavers, the level of confidentiality can depend both on content characteristics and user rights, thus also addressing the critical issue of privacy.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

On the magnetic perturbation of the Ising model on the sphere

In this letter we will extend the analysis given by Al. Zamolodchikov for the scaling Yang-Lee model on the sphere to the Ising model in a magnetic field. A numerical study of the partition function and of the vacuum expectation values (VEV) is done by using the truncated conformal space (TCS) approach. Our results strongly suggest that the partition function is an entire function of the coupling constant.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, revised version, references adde

Coherent photon assisted cotunneling in a Coulomb blockade device

We study cotunneling in a double junction Coulomb blockade device under the influence of time dependent potentials. It is shown that the ac-bias leads to photon assisted cotunneling which in some cases may dominate the transport. We derive a general non-perturbative expression for the tunneling current in the presence of oscillating potentials and give a perturbative expression for the photon assisted cotunneling current.Comment: Replaced with a longer paper which includes a non-perturbative calculation. 13 pages with 1 figure.
