Transformation Hidden in the Sand; a Pluralistic Theoretical Framework Using Sand-Tray with Adult Clients

Jungian sandplay predominates the existing literature on sand-tray therapy. Although there is a small volume of literature on alternative approaches of using sand-tray with adults, most primarily focuses on children and adolescents. The study aimed to establish a sand-tray therapy framework to be utilized by practitioners who are not Jungian trained and intend to use this intervention with adult clients. The grounded theory multiple case study involved six client-participants receiving six sand-tray therapy sessions. The pluralistic model established incorporates inter-relational and intra-psychic dimensions. Concepts include phenomenological shift and two sand-tray specific mechanisms of phenomenological anchor and phenomenological hook, aiding ‘edge of awareness’ and unconscious processing. In this study, pluralistic sand-tray therapy was deemed successful based on improved CORE-10 clinical scores and the various participant feedback collected

X-ray crystallographic analysis with Cu Kα radiation established the relative configurations of the stereogenic centers in the title compound, C15H20N2O5, and clarified mechanistic ambiguities in the synthesis. The conformation of the five-membered ring approximates twisted, about a C—O bond. The absolute configuration of this carbon-branched dipeptide isostere was known based on the use of d-ribose as the starting material. Refinement of the Flack parameter gave an ambiguous result but the refined Hooft parameter is in agreement with the assumed (d-ribose) absolute structure. The crystal structure consists of N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen-bonded bi-layers, with the terminal methyl and phenyl groups forming a hydrophobic inter-layer interface. Some weak C—H⋯O interactions are also present

The Kiliani reaction on 1-deoxy-(N,N-dimethylamino)-d-fructose, itself readily available from reaction of dimethylamine and d-glucose, proceeded to give access to the title β-sugar amino acid, C15H27NO7. X-ray crystallography determined the stereochemistry at the newly formed chiral center. There are two molecules in the asymmetric unit; they are related by a pseudo-twofold rotation axis and have very similar geometries, differing only in the conformation of one of the acetonide rings. All the acetonide rings adopt envelope conformations; the flap atom is oxygen in three of the rings, but carbon in one of them. There are two strong hydrogen bonds between the two independent molecules, and further weak hydrogen bonds link the molecules to form infinite chains running parallel to the a axis

A machine learning approach to model interdependencies between dynamic response and crack propagation

Accurate damage detection in engineering structures is a critical part of structural health monitoring. A variety of non-destructive inspection methods has been employed to detect the presence and severity of the damage. In this research, machine learning (ML) algorithms are used to assess the dynamic response of the system. It can predict the damage severity, damage location, and fundamental behaviour of the system. Fatigue damage data of aluminium and ABS under coupled mechanical loads at different temperatures are used to train the model. The model shows that natural frequency and temperature appear to be the most important predictive features for aluminium. It appears to be dominated by natural frequency and tip amplitude for ABS. The results also show that the position of the crack along the specimen appears to be of little importance for either material, allowing simultaneous prediction of location and damage severit
