With the rapid urban expansion and economic development, vehicle fuel dissipation and exhaust emissions have been identified as major energy wastage and urban air pollutions in Kalar City and Iraqi Kurdistan Region in general. Traffic congestion is a growing problem in Kalar City and other urban areas. As it increases, the delay at the transportation network will increase. Any increase of the delay in the transportation network will reflect negatively by increasing the delay at the signalized intersections. Therefore, a study on delay and its relation to fuel consumption, operation cost and emissions at signalized intersection are necessary. This paper, studies the influences and impacts of signalized intersection delay reduction on the fuel consumption, operation cost, and exhaust emissions. A simulation is carried out to evaluate the existing conditions of selected intersections by estimating the intersection delay, operation cost, and emissions. The simulation results show that fuel consumption, operation cost, and emissions are high and directly proportional to the intersection delay. To reduce intersection delay, a signal timing optimization is carried out to the selected intersections. The optimization results show that the delay reduction has a significant influence and impacts in reducing; fuel wastage, operation cost, and exhaust emissions

This study is a survey to evaluate the flexible pavement conditions to determine and specify the types of the failures in the pavement for the selected highway. It is very significant to evaluate and identify the causes of the flexible pavement failures and select the proper and best treatment and maintenance type. The study had two major and critical goals which covered by considering the following three tasks; the first was the visual evaluation and inspection of existing flexible pavement conditions including the failures, the second to determine and find out the actual causes of these failures in the pavement, and聽 the third is to select the most and effective treatments and maintenance types. As a case study, Khanaqin-Kalar 2-way 2-lane rural highway was selected for evaluation and inspection purposes. The field evaluation works were achieved on the existing flexible pavement conditions of the selected rural highway. The results were most of the damages and failures in the pavement are serious and extreme surface deformation, cracks, disintegration, and surface defects. These damages and failures are caused by fatigue and other types of failures resulted from the movement of heavy vehicles and trucks, poor drainage design, unsuitable pavement layers thickness design, and improper pavement mix design and selected materials

Improving the gasoline fuel combustion, reducing gasoline fuel consumption and reducing vehicles exhaust emissions pollution associated with gasoline combustion become growing interest locally and global-wide. To satisfy the exhaust gas emissions rules and regulations and reducing fuel consumption, it is very significant and critical to determine and understand the gasoline fuel quality impact on fuel consumption, air-fuel ratio (AFR), lambda (位) and exhaust emissions of gasoline-fueled vehicles. Therefore, studying the impact of gasoline fuel quality on fuel consumption, the air-fuel ratio (AFR), lambda (位) and exhaust emissions of gasoline-fueled vehicles is very important and necessary. A sensitive and detailed analysis conducted to analyze and determine the impact of gasoline fuel quality on fuel consumption, air-fuel ratio (AFR), lambda (位) and exhaust emissions of gasoline-fueled vehicles. The study results indicated a direct impact of gasoline fuel quality on fuel consumption, the air-fuel ratio (AFR), lambda (位) and some vehicle exhaust gases emission including carbon dioxide (CO2), oxygen (O2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). Also, the results indicated the indirect impact of gasoline fuel quality on hydrocarbons (CxHy) vehicle exhaust emission. The results of this study can help in reducing fuel consumption, improving the quality of fuel combustion and reducing vehicle exhaust emissions
