In GSS Research How Many Groups per Treatment Condition Are Enough?

    Get PDF
This study presents, summarizes, and analyzes the results of 178 Groups Support Systems (GSS) experiments based on categories of groups per treatment condition. The results suggest that for studies designed with less than 7 groups per condition there are significantly lower probabilities of finding significant differences. Task type and GSS type further moderate these results

Configurations of V4+ centers in the MoVO catalyst material. A systematic stability analysis of DFT results

    Get PDF
The reactivity of a catalyst is in part determined by its geometric and electronic structure. Here we present a model that is able to describe the energy trend of the important oxidation catalyst material MoVO, as obtained from hybrid density functional calculations for various V4+/V5+ configurations. For an exemplary V/Mo occupancy, we systematically examined the universe of all V4+ distributions. The distribution of these V4+ centers, in combination with the induced lattice distortions, plays a key role in determining the stability of the material, entailing energy variations of up to ~140 kJ mol−1 per unit cell. Hence, for this kind of catalyst, it is crucial to account for the V4+ distributions. To this end, we are proposing novel predictive models based on features like the number of Mo centers with two reduced neighbors V4+ and the locations of potentially reducible centers V5+. For the V/Mo occupancy chosen, these models are able to describe the energy variation due to the V4+ distribution with root mean square errors as low as 6 kJ mol−1. Accordingly, catalytically selective sites featuring pentameric units with a single polaron center are among the most of stable configurations. Another aspect of this work is to understand energy contributions of polaron arrangements bracketing Mo centers

AMCIS 2006 Tutorial Paper: A Review of Methods to Assess National Knowledge in the Knowledge Economy

    Get PDF
The evolving role of knowledge in modern societies has spurred an interest in better evaluating knowledge creation capabilities of a variety of business, non-profit, national or multinational actors. Our field has extensively focused on reviewing knowledge management evaluation and implementation programs at the organizational level. In this paper, which stems from a tutorial presented at AMICS 2006 in Acapulco, we focus on the efforts undertaken by International Development Institutions (IDIs) to assess the role of knowledge as a driver of national wealth and economic development. This paper describes methodological frameworks - such as the knowledge assessments - used to evaluate a country\u27s potential to generate new knowledge. Knowledge assessments comprise of qualitative and quantitative exercises to collect benchmarking data on relative national standing in knowledge endowment (the knowledge indexes). The review suggests some open issues and solicits enhancing the predictive capabilities of current models

Roles for Government and The Private Sector:Electronic Commerce in Singapore

    Get PDF
Electronic commerce will be built on existing technologyinfrastructure of computers, communication networks, and communication software to form the information superhighway. The building of this information superhighway however, cannot be done by the government alone. While the use of the Internet for commercehas been coincidental, it must now be further developed based on a strong partnership involving the government, the industry, and the users. Both the government and the private sector play a vital role in supporting the pillars of the electronic commerce framework. An understanding of the roles of government as facilitator and that of the private sector as business strategists for electronic commerce to flourish and mature will enable us to further refine future strategic models of electronic commerce framework
