Evolution of avalanche conducting states in electrorheological liquids
Charge transport in electrorheological fluids is studied experimentally under
strongly nonequlibrium conditions. By injecting an electrical current into a
suspension of conducting nanoparticles we are able to initiate a process of
self-organization which leads, in certain cases, to formation of a stable
pattern which consists of continuous conducting chains of particles. The
evolution of the dissipative state in such system is a complex process. It
starts as an avalanche process characterized by nucleation, growth, and thermal
destruction of such dissipative elements as continuous conducting chains of
particles as well as electroconvective vortices. A power-law distribution of
avalanche sizes and durations, observed at this stage of the evolution,
indicates that the system is in a self-organized critical state. A sharp
transition into an avalanche-free state with a stable pattern of conducting
chains is observed when the power dissipated in the fluid reaches its maximum.
We propose a simple evolution model which obeys the maximum power condition and
also shows a power-law distribution of the avalanche sizes.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figure
Genome-Wide Association Study in BRCA1 Mutation Carriers Identifies Novel Loci Associated with Breast and Ovarian Cancer Risk
BRCA1-associated breast and ovarian cancer risks can be modified by common genetic variants. To identify further cancer risk-modifying loci, we performed a multi-stage GWAS of 11,705 BRCA1 carriers (of whom 5,920 were diagnosed with breast and 1,839 were diagnosed with ovarian cancer), with a further replication in an additional sample of 2,646 BRCA1 carriers. We identified a novel breast cancer risk modifier locus at 1q32 for BRCA1 carriers (rs2290854, P = 2.7Ă—10-8, HR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.09-1.20). In addition, we identified two novel ovarian cancer risk modifier loci: 17q21.31 (rs17631303, P = 1.4Ă—10-8, HR = 1.27, 95% CI: 1.17-1.38) and 4q32.3 (rs4691139, P = 3.4Ă—10-8, HR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.17-1.38). The 4q32.3 locus was not associated with ovarian cancer risk in the general population or BRCA2 carriers, suggesting a BRCA1-specific associat
The tale of TILs in breast cancer : a report from the International Immuno-Oncology Biomarker Working Group
The advent of immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) in modern oncology has significantly improved survival in several cancer settings.
A subgroup of women with breast cancer (BC) has immunogenic infiltration of lymphocytes with expression of programmed deathligand
1 (PD-L1). These patients may potentially benefit from ICI targeting the programmed death 1 (PD-1)/PD-L1 signaling axis. The
use of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) as predictive and prognostic biomarkers has been under intense examination. Emerging
data suggest that TILs are associated with response to both cytotoxic treatments and immunotherapy, particularly for patients with
triple-negative BC. In this review from The International Immuno-Oncology Biomarker Working Group, we discuss (a) the biological
understanding of TILs, (b) their analytical and clinical validity and efforts toward the clinical utility in BC, and (c) the current status of
PD-L1 and TIL testing across different continents, including experiences from low-to-middle-income countries, incorporating also
the view of a patient advocate. This information will help set the stage for future approaches to optimize the understanding and

Screening and assessment tools for gaming disorder: A comprehensive systematic review
The inclusion of gaming disorder (GD) as an official diagnosis in the ICD-11 was a significant milestone for the field. However, the optimal measurement approaches for GD are currently unclear. This comprehensive systematic review aimed to identify and evaluate all available English-language GD tools and their corresponding evidence. A search of PsychINFO, PsychArticles, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar identified 32 tools employed in 320 studies (N = 462,249 participants). The evaluation framework examined tools in relation to: (1) conceptual and practical considerations; (2) alignment with DSM-5 and ICD-11 criteria; (3) type and quantity of studies and samples; and (4) psychometric properties. The evaluation showed that GD instrumentation has proliferated, with 2.5 tools, on average, published annually since 2013. Coverage of DSM-5 and ICD-11 criteria was inconsistent, especially for the criterion of continued use despite harm. Tools converge on the importance of screening for impaired control over gaming and functional impairment. Overall, no single tool was found to be clearly superior, but the AICA-Sgaming, GAS-7, IGDT-10, IGDS9-SF, and Lemmens IGD-9 scales had greater evidential support for their psychometric properties.
