    Quantum Fluctuations in Josephson Junction Comparators

    We have developed a method for calculation of quantum fluctuation effects, in particular of the uncertainty zone developing at the potential curvature sign inversion, for a damped harmonic oscillator with arbitrary time dependence of frequency and for arbitrary temperature, within the Caldeira-Leggett model. The method has been applied to the calculation of the gray zone width Delta Ix of Josephson-junction balanced comparators driven by a specially designed low-impedance RSFQ circuit. The calculated temperature dependence of Delta Ix in the range 1.5 to 4.2K is in a virtually perfect agreement with experimental data for Nb-trilayer comparators with critical current densities of 1.0 and 5.5 kA/cm^2, without any fitting parameters.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letter

    Norm kernels and the closeness relation for Pauli-allowed basis functions

    The norm kernel of the generator-coordinate method is shown to be a symmetric kernel of an integral equation with eigenfunctions defined in the Fock--Bargmann space and forming a complete set of orthonormalized states (classified with the use of SU(3) symmetry indices) satisfying the Pauli exclusion principle. This interpretation allows to develop a method which, even in the presence of the SU(3) degeneracy, provides for a consistent way to introduce additional quantum numbers for the classification of the basis states. In order to set the asymptotic boundary conditions for the expansion coefficients of a wave function in the SU(3) basis, a complementary basis of functions with partial angular momenta as good quantum numbers is needed.     Magnetic properties and magnetostructural phase transitions in Ni2+xMn1-xGa shape memory alloys

    A systematic study of magnetic properties of Ni2+xMn1-xGa (0 \le x \le 0.19) Heusler alloys undergoing structural martensite-austenite transformations while in ferromagnetic state has been performed. From measurements of spontaneous magnetization, Ms(T), jumps \Delta M at structural phase transitions were determined. Virtual Curie temperatures of the martensite were estimated from the comparison of magnetization in martensitic and austenitic phases. Both saturation magnetic moments in ferromagnetic state and effective magnetic moments in paramagnetic state of Mn and Ni atoms were estimated and the influence of delocalization effects on magnetism in these alloys was discussed. The experimental results obtained show that the shift of martensitic transition temperature depends weakly on composition. The values of this shift are in good correspondence with Clapeyron-Clausius formalism taking into account the experimental data on latent heat at martensite-austenite transformations.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure

    Peculiar properties of the cluster-cluster interaction induced by the Pauli exclusion principle

    Role of the Pauli principle in the formation of both the discrete spectrum and multi-channel states of the binary nuclear systems composed of clusters is studied in the Algebraic Version of the resonating-group method. Solutions of the Hill-Wheeler equations in the discrete representation of a complete basis of the Pauli-allowed states are discussed for 4He+n, 3H+3H, and 4He+4He binary systems. An exact treatment of the antisymmetrization effects are shown to result in either an effective repulsion of the clusters, or their effective attraction. It also yields a change in the intensity of the centrifugal potential. Both factors significantly affect the scattering phase behavior. Special attention is paid to the multi-channel cluster structure 6He+6He as well as to the difficulties arising in the case when the two clustering configurations, 6He+6He and 4He+8He, are taken into account simultaneously. In the latter case the Pauli principle, even in the absence of a potential energy of the cluster-cluster interaction, leads to the inelastic processes and secures an existence of both the bound state and resonance in the 12Be compound nucleus.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, 1 table; submitted to Phys.Rev.C Keywords: light neutron-rich nuclei, cluster model
