Ostatnie rycerstwo Europy : husaria w utworach Wespazjana Kochowskiego

The aim of this paper is to explore the image of Polish hussars emerging from the writings of Wespazjan Kochowski. The subject of reflection is mostly the ways of fighting of hussar towarzysz and the role of the characteristic hussar weaponry described in Kochowski’s poems. The author of Niepróżnujące próżnowanie (Not Idling Idleness) was sent as part of levy in mass to Berestechko (1651) shortly after graduation. Thenceforth he was in the army until 1660, also in the Crown hussar company of margrave Władysław Myszkowski. Wespazjan Kochowski devoted a large part of his writings to soldier life, famous battles and commanders. This article analyzes the works of a poet‑soldier, in which we find a first‑hand description of hussars; they include verses from the collection Niepróżnujące próżnowanie (Not Idling Idleness) and excerpts from Commentarius belli adversus Turcas ad Viennam (Memoirs from the Wars against Turks) and Dzieła Boskiego albo Pieśni Wiednia wybawionego i inszych transakcyjej wojny tureckiej w roku 1683 szczęśliwie rozpoczętej (The Work of God or Songs of Liberated Vienna)

Nieznany rękopis z Bavorovianum. Perspektywy badań zdigitalizowanych zbiorów z Lwowskiej Narodowej Naukowej Biblioteki Ukrainy im. Wasyla Stefanyka

Przedmiotem artykułu są zbiory należące niegdyś do lwowskiej Biblioteki Fundacji Wiktora Baworowskiego. W artykule przedstawiono działalność Wiktora Baworowskiego, losy zgromadzonych zbiorów po jego śmierci, a także kwestię pozostawionych we Lwowie kolekcji Bavorovianum, które w wyniku powojennej zmiany granic weszły w skład Lwowskiej Narodowej Naukowej Biblioteki Ukrainy im. Wasyla Stefanyka. Omówiona została przede wszystkim współpraca bibliotek wrocławskiej i lwowskiej, obejmująca projekt digitalizacji pozostawionych we Lwowie polskich zbiorów. Jako przykład zdigitalizowanego i udostępnionego w internetowej bazie dokumentu pochodzącego z Biblioteki Baworowskich posłużył nieopracowany dotąd dziewiętnastowieczny kopiariusz, zawierający m.in. wiersze Anny z Mycielskich Radziwiłłowej, Franciszki Urszuli Radziwiłłowej oraz anonimowy diariusz opisujący drogę do Drezna. Poprzez zaprezentowanie zawartości dokumentu podkreślono znaczenie procesów digitalizacji umożliwiających badanie cennych manuskryptów, do których dostęp był niegdyś utrudniony

Współczesna legenda Barbary Radziwiłłówny

The aim of the dissertation is to verify the extent to which Barbara Radziwiłłówna’sbiography meets the criteria for becoming the subject of legend. Her observation encompassesthe shaping of this cultural category as such, not in literary works but incontemporary academic and popular texts, the latter having the advantage of making284 Dominika Fessera greater impact and being more likely to leave an imprint in the collective consciousness.The criteria included in the analysis are legend‑formativefactors as highlightedby Andrzej Makowiecki (Trzy legendy literackie. Przybyszewski, Witkacy, Gałczyński / ThreeLiterary Legends. Przybyszewski, Witkacy, Gałczyński, 1980) and conditions enabling thecreation of a legend. Confronting Barbara Radziwiłłówna’s biography with the set offactors that allow for the formation of a legend confirm that the life of Zygmunt August’ssecond wife included practically all them. What is more, the authors of the referencedtexts, by accentuating particular moments and aspects of Radziwiłłówna’s life andemploying the expressive repertoire of the belles‑lettres,move beyond the paradigm ofobjectivity – they let their emotions have the lead which, in effect, perpetuates Barbara’sbiographical legend

Korespondencja Lwa Sapiehy do Radziwiłłów (w latach 1586–1622). Przyczynek do postrzegania na Litwie Stefana Batorego i Zygmunta III Wazy

The topic of this paper is the representation of the two kings of Poland – Stephen Báthory andSigismund III Vasa – emerging from the correspondence of Lew Sapieha addressed to the Radziwiłłsof Birża: Krzysztof ‘the Thunder’ and his son Krzysztof (d. 1640), as well as Mikołaj KrzysztofSierotka of the Nieśwież line of the family. A look at Sapieha’s writings allows to capture thedifferences in his descriptions of the two monarchs and also enables identifying the rhetorictools aimed at making the king’s policies favourable in the eyes of the addressees. Sapieha’s lettersare testaments of his unusual ability to depict reality colourfully; most of all, however, theyenrich the knowledge on the art of epistolography in the past centuries, a topic which remainsnot fully explored by literary historians

An Unknown Poem by Anna z Mycielskich Radziwiłłowa

Th is paper is an edition of a work by Anna z Mycielskich Radziwiłłowa: Opisanie choroby J[aśnie] O[świeconej] Księżnej J[ej] M[oś]ci Anny z Mycielskich Radziwiłłowej, w niebezpieczeństwie życia zostającej i od doktorów opuszczoną będąc, cudem Pana Jezusa Antokolskiego i Matki Najśw[iętszej] Ostrobromskiej uzdrowiona, sama opisała 1753 [A description of the sickness of Her Enlightened Grace Duchess Anna z Mycielskich Radziwiłłowa, who facing the risk of death, and being deserted by doctors, was wonderfully healed by Jesus of Antakalnis and Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn, which she penned herself in the year 1753]. Th e paper was prepared on the basis of a manuscript from the Baworowski Library, currently in the collection of Th e L’viv National Vasyl Stefanyk Scientifi c Library of Ukraine. Its introduction draws on the available sources—mainly a paper by Jakub Bajer and Andrea Mariani: Macocha idealna. Aktywność Anny Luizy z Mycielskich w świetle francuskiej korespondencji dyplomatycznej (1764–1765) [A Perfect Step-Mother. Th e Activity of Anna Luiza z Mycielskich in the Light of Frech Diplomatic Correspondence (1764–1765)]; and an entry by Hanna Dymnicka-Wołoszyńska in Th e Polish Biographical Dictionary: Radziwiłłowa z Mycielskich Anna Ludwika Karolina Kunegunda (1729–1771). It presents the mid-18th century author taking into account her relations with the Radziwiłł family in Nesvizh, yet before her marriage with Leon Michał Radziwiłł, her later family life, and her cultural activity in the Nesvizh estate– both as an actress and a writer. Th e above-mentioned papers are the only sources describing the life of Anna z Mycielskich from a wider perspective. To date, researchers have focused mainly on the life of the relative, Franciszka Urszula Radziwiłłowa. Th e poetical and epistolary output of Duchess Anna has not yet drawn the attention of literary scholars. Th anks to the manuscript in Th e L’viv National Vasyl Stefanyk Scientifi c Library of Ukraine it is now possible to rediscover the literary legacy of the poet, and most importantly, to examine it. In the introduction, the author not only presents the Duchess’ life, but also describes her cartulary, which comprises a copy of her work; its provenance is here identifi ed and the authors of works contained in the cartulary are listed. Th e edition is supplemented with a brief description of Mycielska’s work, which mentions places of religious worship in Wilno, the fi gure of Jesus of Antakalnis, and the Gate of Dawn. An Unknown Manuscript from Bavorovianum The Perspectives of the Research of Digitised Collections from The Lviv National Vasyl Stefanyk Scientific Library of Ukraine

Przedmiotem artykułu są zbiory należące niegdyś do lwowskiej Biblioteki Fundacji Wiktora Baworowskiego. W artykule przedstawiono działalność Wiktora Baworowskiego, losy zgromadzonych zbiorów po jego śmierci, a także kwestię pozostawionych we Lwowie kolekcji Bavorovianum, które w wyniku powojennej zmiany granic weszły w skład Lwowskiej Narodowej Naukowej Biblioteki Ukrainy im. Wasyla Stefanyka. Omówiona została przede wszystkim współpraca bibliotek wrocławskiej i lwowskiej, obejmująca projekt digitalizacji pozostawionych we Lwowie polskich zbiorów. Jako przykład zdigitalizowanego i udostępnionego w internetowej bazie dokumentu pochodzącego z Biblioteki Baworowskich posłużył nieopracowany dotąd dziewiętnastowieczny kopiariusz, zawierający m.in. wiersze Anny z Mycielskich Radziwiłłowej, Franciszki Urszuli Radziwiłłowej oraz anonimowy diariusz opisujący drogę do Drezna. Poprzez zaprezentowanie zawartości dokumentu podkreślono znaczenie procesów digitalizacji umożliwiających badanie cennych manuskryptów, do których dostęp był niegdyś utrudniony.The article is devoted to the fate of the collections which once belonged to the Lviv-based Library of the Wiktor Baworowski Foundation. It presents the activities of Wiktor Baworowski, the posthumous history of the collections that he gathered, and the question of the collections of the Bavorovianum, which remained in Lviv and which due to the post-war change of borders were incorporated into The Lviv National Vasyl Stefanyk Scientific Library of Ukraine. The article is focused above all on the collaboration of the libraries of Wrocław and Lviv, which involved the project of the digitalisation of Polish collections which remained in Lviv. A 19th-century copiarium which heretofore was not processed, containing inter alia the poems of Anna z Mycielskich Radziwiłłowa, Franciszka Urszula Radziwiłłowa and an anonymous diarium describing the path to Dresden served as an example of a work derived from the Baworowski Library which was digitised and made accessible in the internet database. The description of its content facilitated the underscoring of the significance of the processes of digitalisation which enable researchers to study valuable manuscripts access to which was difficult earlier
