A Gestão de Informação de I&D e o Acesso Aberto na Universidade do Porto

A Universidade do Porto dispõe de um sistema de informação integrado de suporteàs várias vertentes da sua atividade, de administração e gestão, de ensino,de investigação e desenvolvimento, e de extensão universitária. O registoda produção científica da comunidade académica neste sistema de informaçãoiniciou-se em 1996, na Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto. Esteregisto generalizou-se às catorze faculdades da Universidade em 2003. Em 2007,reconhecendo os benefícios do acesso aberto à literatura científica e a sua importânciapara potenciar a visibilidade e o impacto da investigação, a Universidadedecidiu criar um repositório aberto, que evoluiu para um repositório institucional.Para além da vertente de repositório aberto, o repositório institucionalinclui uma vertente temática e uma vertente de suporte a dados científicos. Osistema de informação e o repositório institucional estão interligados constituindo-se como os principais suportes da gestão de informação de I&D na Universidadedo Porto.The University of Porto has an integrated information system that supportsdifferent aspects of its activity, such as administration and management, education,research and development and university extension. It was in 1996, inthe Faculty of Engineering, that began the registration of the scientific productionof the academic community in this information system. In 2003, the registrationwas generalized to the fourteen faculties of the University. In 2007,recognizing the benefits of open access to scientific literature and its importanceto enhance the visibility and impact of research, the University decided tocreate an open repository, which evolved into an institutional repository. Besidesthe open repository, the institutional repository includes two other components,one of thematic nature, other to support scientific data. The informationsystem and the institutional repository are interconnected, being themain support of the R&D information management at the University of Porto

Managing Access Rights for the Repositories of U.Porto

Digital repositories are replacing traditional archives, and their functions largely exceed those of their ancestors. In a higher education institution, wheremultiple activities take place motivated by its teaching, research, community engagement and cultural missions, repositories may become endowed with aspectrum of functionalities that range from the support for teaching resources, the registry of academic publication, the management of research data, thepreservation of heritage materials and the dissemination of timely news.In this paper we are looking at the repository structure of U.Porto from the point of view of access rights and access restrictions. The experience at U.Portohas shown that an institutional repository does require considerable effort in the identification of the materials to be incorporated, and that a substantial part ofthat effort has to be devoted to the management of the access conditions.We consider a set of case studies from U.Porto documents and analyze the processes required to make them available. The cases cover scientific papers,research data and administrative documents, and are just a sample of the many situations the university is facing in its mission of preserving the institutionalmemory and making resources available to a large audience in and outside the university

Data Curation at U.Porto: Identifying current practices across disciplinary domains

The University of Porto is currently concerned with the curation of and the access to the scientific data generated by its researchers. There is a growing awareness of the fragility of digital archives, and researchers feel that they need to keep their data assets alive as the scientific infrastructure becomes more sophisticated. The possibilities of scientific impact derived from open datasets are also becoming evident to them. As a result of an identification task, we present a preliminary study on the datasets which are being used in current research, picking examples from life sciences, engineering, social sciences and arts. The identification also provides insight on current models for data curation, both formal and informal, and on the sensitivity of researchers with respect to open access to their data

The U.Porto Open Repository: The Role of the Information System

The creation and the dissemination of knowledge are nuclear to the mission of universities. As JohnNewman anticipated in his work "The Idea of a University"1] Knowledge is capable of being its own end.We all know and experiment the influence of the new information and communication technologies (ICT)in our daily work and in the way we live in society. These technologies are having a tremendous impacton production and diffusion of knowledge. The open access movement for scholarly communicationbears on the possibilities of Internet technologies, and institutional repositories on the Web are seen asnew ways to support that primary constituent of the universities' mission.In this work we will present the institutional repository of the University of Porto (U.PORTO) from itscreation to the present moment, emphasizing its goals and the key factors that influenced most theadhesion of the academic community to self-archiving, allowing that from November 2007, when therepository was created, to present days the number of publications registered increased by an order ofmagnitude, the University of Porto now being the higher education institution in Portugal that offersmore open access full text publications, over 11.000 documents. To achieve these results, theconnection between the U.PORTO Information System, SIGARRA, to the DSPACE platform, that supportsthe University repository was decisive, and we will address its implications as well as the main directionsfor future developments

História de abuso durante a infância

O presente estudo insere-se num projecto de investigação mais vasto sobre o contexto psicossocial dos maus tratos e negligência à criança em Portugal. Foi especificamente concebido para analisar a prevalência de história de abuso na infância e adolescência em pais portugueses na comunidade. Os novecentos e trinta e dois pais (506 mães e 426 pais) da amostra do estudo, seleccionados na comunidade através de escolas do 1.º ciclo do Ensino Básico, situadas na região Norte do País, completaram a versão portuguesa do Childhood History Questionnaire (CHQ, Milner, Robertson, & Rogers, 1990). Os resultados ilustram os cuidados recebidos, assim como a prevalência de história de abuso físico (com e sem sequelas) e sexual, na infância e adolescência dos pais da amostra. Ilustram aspectos relevantes da história de abuso físico e sexual dos participantes no estudo, tais como: idade de ocorrência, recorrência do abuso, perpetrador(es) e tipo de comportamento abusivo.The present study was conducted as a part of a larger research concerning the psychosocial context of child abuse and neglect. It was specifically designed to analyze the prevalence of the history of abuse in Portuguese parents from the community. Nine hundred and thirty two parents (506 mothers and 426 fathers), composing our community parents’ sample, that were selected through public primary schools from the Northern area of Portugal, and completed the Portuguese version of the Childhood History Questionnaire (CHQ, Milner, Robertson, & Rogers, 1990). Results illustrate the received care, as the prevalence of child and adolescent physical (with and without sequelae) and sexual abuse history in community parents. O Repositório Aberto da Universidade do Porto

O Repositório da Universidade do Porto visa agregar os repositórios institucionais da Universidade, em particular o Repositório Aberto, relativo à produção intelectual da sua comunidade académica, e o Repositório Temático, que inclui recursos informativos produzidos em áreas ou para públicos específicos.Neste trabalho apresentam-se as diferentes fases associadas à criação e evolução do Repositório da Universidade do Porto, bem como as perspectivas do seu desenvolvimento futuro
