    The Effect of Language Anxiety in the Classroom

    This study aims to investigate factors contributing to anxiety. The study attempts to investigate whether language anxiety gives positive or negative impacts to language learners. It also tries to see how different educational system influences learners belief in learning a language. The findings indicate that the subject experienced anxiety in classroom particularly when she was asked to do oral presentation in the classroom. This was because she grew up in different language background and educational system. Although the subject was anxious when speaking in from of the class, she could manage her anxiety by preparing the presentation well

    The Effect of Using Picture Word Inductive Model on Teaching Descriptive Text Writing

    The use of PWIM emphasized more on how students recognized the words by looking at the pictures teacher provided. The purpose of this research was to know the effect of using Picture Word Inductive Model on teaching descriptive text writing on the tenth- grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Sungai Raya, Kubu Raya. This research used quasi-experimental research pretest-posttest non-equivalent group design. The samples of this research were 20 students for experimental group and 20 students for control group. The use of Picture Word Inductive Model had an effect on teaching descriptive text writing. The effect size for the treatment was considered as strong, under the t-test the difference of the interval was significant. It is suggested that teacher uses PWIM as the alternative technique in teaching descriptive text

    Designing Reading Materials On Factual Recount Text Using Elements Of Ctl Approach

    : This research is aimed at designing supplementary ELT materials on factual recount text using elements of CTL approach of reading skill for Grade VIII semester 2 at MTs Al-Rahmah Sekadau Hilir of Kabupaten Sekadau of Provinsi Kalimantan Barat. The research method is development research using ADDIE procedure. The participants of the research are an English teacher and 24 students. The result of data analysis of questionnaires shows that the feasibility on the materials design from the English teacher point of view is 100% and students' point of view is 87, 29%. Furthermore, from the test given in implementation process students' achievement reaches 100% namely 17 students in excellent category and 7 students in category of good. In conclusion, supplementary ELT materials on factual recount text of reading which are designed using elements of CTL approach are feasible for students Grade VIII of MTs Al-Rahmah Sekadau Hilir of Kabupaten Sekadau in academic year 2014-2015

    The Use of 3-2-1 Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension on Report Text

    The 3-2-1 strategy is a reading strategy that requires students\u27 participation on summarizing ideas from the text, encourages them to think independently, and invites them to engage with the text. The aim of this research was to investigated whether the 3-2-1 strategy increased students\u27 achievement in reading comprehension on report text. Reading comprehension is the process of simultaneously extracting meaning through interaction and involvement with written language. Report text is a text presenting information about something like social phenomena in our environment. The research method used a pre-experimental research. The population of the ninth grade students of SMP Pertiwi Pontianak in academic year 2015/2016 consisted of 26 students and sample consisted of 24 students. The data was calculated and the result showed that the mean score of pre-test was 5.63 and post-test was 7.77. There was significant difference of students mean score in reading comprehension on report text between pre-test and post-test after treatment. The 3-2-1 strategy can be applied in teaching learning process to increasing the knowledge of reading text

    Salah satu kualitas lulusan tingkat sarjana yang diharapkan adalah memiliki kemampuan berbahasa Inggris. Hal ini diyakini sebagai persiapan menyongsong era globalisasi dimana komunikasi antar negara semakin mudah. Kemampuan berbahasa inggris sebenarnya juga menjadi life skills dan academic skills yang akan mendukung pembangunan manusia Indonesia khususnya dalam bidang alih teknologi dan pertumbuhan ekonomi. itulah yang diharapkan oleh UNTAN dengan menerapkan kebijakan TOEFL sebagai prasyarat ujian skripsi. Ironisnya, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa rata-rata mahasiswa mengalami kemunduran dalam penguasaan bahasa inggris yang diindikasikan oleh menurunnya nilai rata-rata TOEFL mereka. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menyingkap bahwa ternyata di Universitas ini tidak ada lingkungan yang memadai untuk berkembangnya kemampuan bahasa inggris
