The nonprofit sector today has to meet growing demands for better quality services and growing competition from business and public organizations, and also from other nonprofit organizations. Because of these circumstances they have to become more professional in their activities. The paper examines the professionalization and knowledge management in nonprofit organizations. The theoretical issues of knowledge management of nonprofit organizations are supported by examples from (earlier and recent) research of the authors. The aspects of knowledge management presented in this paper, not only give an insight over the contribution of nonprofit organizations to the success of a larger project, but they ca be an example for other nonprofits dealing with similar problems, facing similar challenges.Knowledge-based services; knowledge transfer; nonprofit organizations; professionalization.

Knowledge-intensive business services: a brief overview

In the last decade of the 20th century knowledge has gained importance in the economy. This lead to the emergence of knowledge-based activities: knowledge-intensive organizations, and particularly knowledge-intensive services. These organizations function as external knowledge sources for other organizations. Their performance depends largely on professional knowledge. Since their performance has an impact on the success of their clients, it is important to look at those factors which influence the knowledge transfer between service provider and client organization. Based on theory and empirical research, the paper addresses the specific aspects of knowledge transfer from knowledge-intensive business service organizations to client organizations.Knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS), client organization, client knowledge., Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies, L84,

A P-glikoprotein membrán mikrokörnyezete és működésének gátolhatósága modulátor és antitest együttes alkalmazásával = P-glycoprotein membrane microenviroment and inhibition of pumping by the combined application of modulators and specific antibody

A multidrog rezisztencia hátterében gyakran a P-glikoprotein (Pgp) pumpa működése áll, melynek gátlására jelentős erőfeszítések történnek világszerte. | P-glycoprotein (Pgp), an ABC transporter often responsible for the multidrug resistance of cancer cells, is recognized and inhibited by the UIC2 mAb that freezes the transporter in a particular phase of its catalytic state. However, the degree of this inhibition is mitigated by the lack of its binding to all cell surface Pgps, a phenomenon poorly understood. We have demonstrated that Pgp is present in two distinct subpopulations on the cell surface: Both pools contain functional Pgp molecules, but only pool I is recognized in the absence of exogeneous substrates/modulators (S/M-s), while pool II Pgps bind UIC2 only upon addition of certain S/M-s, identified by a test introduced by us earlier. In the presence of any of this group of S/M-s administered at such a low concentration which is insufficient to cause Pgp inhibition when used alone, the mAb can completely inhibit the pump also in vivo, as demonstrated in xenotransplantation experiments. Pgp molecules of the two pools could be distinguished in terms of membrane microdomain localization, clustering propensity, cytoskeletal anchorage, intracellular molecular neighbours, and trafficking characteristics. Endocytosis of Pgp involves the actin microfilament system, and primarily targets the raft associated pool I, when an ATP- conformational state is stabilized. The presence of the pump in two different lipid environment may be optimal for the transport of S-s with different solubilities

Question of transport infrastructure charges - among others- covers calculation and allocation of infrastructure costsreferring different users. Cost allocation forms the basis of settingthe user charges. The reason for the existence of applyingmileage-proportional pricing system is generally accepted, asthe European regulations also discuss this topic seriously. Thismileage-proportional pricing system demands an appropriatetoll collecting system, which meets the requirements of arrangedprinciples. Among these, the most important principlesare equity, effectiveness and efficiency. Electronic Toll Collecting(ETC) systems are an appropriate solution to solvingcharging problems in various ways according to the differentkind of systems. In Hungary the current motorway charging systemis not an adequate solution for success of these principlesin the long-term. A new, mileage-proportional pricing system isbeing initiated. This study presents the plans of HungarianETC system for motorway network, focusing on introductoryissues. Among several preparatory steps, examining acceptabilitybarriers of ETC system for the stakeholders of transport isneeded. Their problem perception is to satisfy their- often contrary-demands in equal, fair and effective ways. The policy implementationprocess also plays an important role to generatesufficient conditions to implement this solution. This contributionis to discuss these objectives in applying the ETC system inan acceptable way

International research results underpin that turbulent, continuously changing environment makes everyday operations for nonprofit (nongovernmental, voluntary) sector organizations harder. It also can be observed that in this situation, nonprofit organizations acquire knowledge from business sector organizations which enables them to improve their structures and processes. They implement methods of the business sector as means of ensuring long term existence, better performance and sustainable success. In recent years, this process has generated new dilemmas for those who are concerned with the future of this sector: if and how the strengthening focus on knowledge processes such as learning and development of individuals working for nonprofit organizations impact organizational knowledge and organizational development and, how important professionalization is for them. The goal of this paper is, to give an overview of special issues of learning and growing professionalization of non profit organizations, and to contribute to the research of these processes. Empirical evidence is provided on the base of a large sample survey that involves approximately 1.000 Hungarian foundations or associations. With the help of the research findings the paper shall expand our general knowledge about professionalization trends in the sector, and also provide deeper insight in details of the relationship between participation in organizational development programs and becoming more professional in everyday operations and services.
