    Exploring the Factors Affecting Mode Choice Intention of Autonomous Vehicle Based on an Extended Theory of Planned Behavior—A Case Study in China

    Autonomous vehicle (AV) is an innovative transport option that has the potential to disrupt all industries tied to transportation systems. The advent of AV technology will bring a novel on-demand mobility pattern such as shared autonomous vehicle (SAV). To promote AV technology, it is important to understand which factors influence travelers’ intention to use AVs and SAVs. This paper collected literature from databases such as Scopus, Web of Science and ScienceDirect, and made a systematic review. The study aims to explore the determinants that influence travelers’ behavioral intentions towards use AVs and SAVs based on an extended version of the theory of planned behavior, which incorporates knowledge and perceived risk. This study was tested empirically using a valid survey sample collected from 906 respondents in China. Structural equation model was conducted to investigate the predictors of intentions to use AVs and SAVs. Results showed that knowledge about AV technology and perceived risk are the two main potential obstacles for travelers to use AVs and SAVs. Attitude significantly affects AVs and SAV choice intentions. Subjective norm is the most critical factor affecting the travelers’ intention to use AVs. Perceived behavioral control potentially stymie the travelers’ intention to use SAVs. The findings will enhance the understanding of travelers’ choice motivation from psychological and service perspectives, and provide data support for governments and companies in improving travel management strategies and product services

    Host Resistance and Temperature-Dependent Evolution of Aggressiveness in the Plant Pathogen Zymoseptoria tritici

    Understanding how habitat heterogeneity may affect the evolution of plant pathogens is essential to effectively predict new epidemiological landscapes and manage genetic diversity under changing global climatic conditions. In this study, we explore the effects of habitat heterogeneity, as determined by variation in host resistance and local temperature, on the evolution of Zymoseptoria tritici by comparing the aggressiveness development of five Z. tritici populations originated from different parts of the world on two wheat cultivars varying in resistance to the pathogen. Our results show that host resistance plays an important role in the evolution of Z. tritici. The pathogen was under weak, constraining selection on a host with quantitative resistance but under a stronger, directional selection on a susceptible host. This difference is consistent with theoretical expectations that suggest that quantitative resistance may slow down the evolution of pathogens and therefore be more durable. Our results also show that local temperature interacts with host resistance in influencing the evolution of the pathogen. When infecting a susceptible host, aggressiveness development of Z. tritici was negatively correlated to temperatures of the original collection sites, suggesting a trade-off between the pathogen’s abilities of adapting to higher temperature and causing disease and global warming may have a negative effect on the evolution of pathogens. The finding that no such relationship was detected when the pathogen infected the partially resistant cultivars indicates the evolution of pathogens in quantitatively resistant hosts is less influenced by environments than in susceptible hosts

    Research on the Mode Choice Intention of the Elderly for Autonomous Vehicles Based on the Extended Ecological Model

    Due to the elderly&rsquo;s limited physical ability, their mode choice behavior with particular demand for the traffic system is significantly distinguished compared to young people. The emergence of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) and Shared Autonomous Vehicles (SAVs) will allow the elderly to travel independently and offer more mode choices. However, emerging vehicles will continue to coexist with other traditional modes such as public transport. This paper aims to explore the internal mechanism of the elderly&rsquo;s choice behavior among public transport, AVs, and SAVs. We integrated the relevant factors by expanding the ecological model and used the Multiple Indicators and Multiple Causes (MIMIC) model to analyze the constructs&rsquo; relationship. The results show that the elderly believe that public transport, AVs, and SAVs are useful and convenient travel modes for themselves, affecting intention significantly. In addition, the elderly&rsquo;s well-being and social influence during travel are also significant constructs for their behavioral intention. The research could provide academic supports for the traffic management departments when making relevant policies and measures for the elderly

    Anti-Cancer Activity of Porphyran and Carrageenan from Red Seaweeds

    Seaweeds are some of the largest producers of biomass in the marine environment and are rich in bioactive compounds that are often used for human and animal health. Porphyran and carrageenan are natural compounds derived from red seaweeds. The former is a characteristic polysaccharide of Porphyra, while the latter is well known from Chondrus, Gigartina, and various Eucheuma species, all in Rhodophyceae. The two polysaccharides have been found to have anti-cancer activity by improving immunity and targeting key apoptotic molecules and therefore deemed as potential chemotherapeutic or chemopreventive agents. This review attempts to review the current study of anti-cancer activity and the possible mechanisms of porphyran and carrageenan derived from red seaweeds to various cancers, and their cooperative actions with other anti-cancer chemotherapeutic agents is also discussed

    Pan-immune-inflammation value is associated with poor prognosis in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis

    AbstractBackground Immune-inflammatory biomarkers (IIBs) have been shown to be correlated with prognosis in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between a novel comprehensive biomarker, the pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV), and the prognosis of patients undergoing PD.Methods We retrospectively analyzed data from a multicenter, large-sample PD database. PIV was calculated as (neutrophil count × platelet count × monocyte count)/lymphocyte count. The prognostic endpoints in this study were all-cause death all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and infection-related death. The Kaplan–Meier method, a Cox proportional hazards regression, Fine–Gray competing risk model, smooth curve, and subgroup analysis were used to analyze the independent relationship between PIV and the prognosis of patients undergoing PD.Results A total of 2796 cases of PD were included, and the study population was divided into Tertiles 1, 2, and 3, according to the tertiles of baseline PIVs. After adjusting for multiple model factors, patients in the Tertile 3 group had a significantly higher risk of all-cause death, CVD death and infection-related death compared with patients with PIV in the Tertile 1 group. Interaction tests showed no positive correlations for subgroup parameters. Regarding all-cause death, compared with the lowest tertile, the multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios (95% confidence intervals) of the highest and middle tertiles were 1.55 (1.25–1.94) and 1.77 (1.43–2.19), respectively; PIV (log2 processing) was associated with 17% excess of mortality in the continuous model.Conclusions A high PIV at baseline was significantly associated with an increased risk of deaths due to all-causes, CVD and infection in patients undergoing PD

    Low-Temperature Synthesis of Cuboid Silver Tetrathiotungstate (Ag<sub>2</sub>WS<sub>4</sub>) as Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

    Ternary bimetallic sulfide silver tetrathiotungstate (Ag<sub>2</sub>WS<sub>4</sub>) was prepared by a simple low-temperature precipitation method. The structure of Ag<sub>2</sub>WS<sub>4</sub> was determined using the data from powder X-ray diffraction, which is in space group <i>I</i>4̅2<i>m</i> (I-phase) with a tetragonal unit cell of <i>a</i> = <i>b</i> = 5.950 71 Å and <i>c</i> = 9.562 65 Å, containing layers of edge-sharing AgS<sub>4</sub> and WS<sub>4</sub> tetrahedra. The Ag<sub>2</sub>WS<sub>4</sub> was also used as an electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in acid electrolyte. The results demonstrated that, attributed to its unique composition, large electrochemical active surface area, and high electric conductivity, the Ag<sub>2</sub>WS<sub>4</sub> exhibited superior electrocatalytic activity for HER, in comparison with the ternary counterparts of WS<sub>2</sub> and Ag<sub>2</sub>S with a low onset potential and small Tafel slope. The Ag<sub>2</sub>WS<sub>4</sub> also presented superior stability and maintained the electrocatalytic activity of HER for at least 24 h in 0.5 M H<sub>2</sub>SO<sub>4</sub>

    Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio Predicts Adverse Cardiovascular Outcome in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients Younger than 60 Years Old

    Background. Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a new inflammatory marker; the relationship between NLR and adverse cardiovascular (CV) prognosis has been gradually emphasized in the general population. However, their association in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients remains unclear. Methods. From January 1, 2010, to May 31, 2017, a total of 1652 patients were recruited. NLR was categorized in triplicates: NLR≤2.74, 2.743.96. Kaplan-Meier cumulative incidence curve and multivariable COX regression analysis were used to determine the relationship between NLR and the incidence of adverse CV outcome, while a competitive risk model was applied to assess the effects of other outcomes on adverse CV prognosis. Besides, forest plot was investigated to analyze the adverse CV prognosis in different subgroups. Results. During follow-up, 213 new-onset CV events and 153 CV disease (CVD) deaths were recorded. Multivariable COX regression models showed that the highest tertile of NLR level was associated with increased risk of CV events (HR=1.39, 95%CI=1.01‐1.93, P=0.046) and CVD mortality (HR=1.81, 95%CI=1.22‐2.69, P=0.003), while compared to the lowest tertile. Competitive risk models showed that the differences in CV event (P<0.001) and CVD mortality (P=0.004) among different NLR groups were still significant while excluding the effects of other outcomes. In subgroups, with each 1 increased in the NLR level, adjusted HR of new-onset CV event was 2.02 (95%CI=1.26−3.23, P=0.003) and CVD mortality was 2.98 (95%CI=1.58−5.62, P=0.001) in the younger group (age<60 years). Conclusions. NLR is an independent risk factor for adverse CV prognosis in PD patients younger than 60 years old
