Viscosity calculated in simulations of strongly-coupled dusty plasmas with gas friction
A two-dimensional strongly-coupled dusty plasma is modeled using Langevin and
frictionless molecular dynamical simulations. The static viscosity and
the wave-number-dependent viscosity are calculated from the
microscopic shear in the random motion of particles. A recently developed
method of calculating the wave-number-dependent viscosity is
validated by comparing the results of from the two simulations. It is
also verified that the Green-Kubo relation can still yield an accurate measure
of the static viscosity in the presence of a modest level of friction as

Exotic phase diagram of a topological quantum system
We study the quantum phase transitions (QPTs) in the Kitaev spin model on a
triangle-honeycomb lattice. In addition to the ordinary topological QPTs
between Abelian and non-Abelian phases, we find new QPTs which can occur
between two phases belonging to the same topological class, namely, either two
non-Abelian phases with the same Chern number or two Abelian phases with the
same Chern number. Such QPTs result from the singular behaviors of the nonlocal
spin-spin correlation functions at the critical points.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure
A novel approach to modelling and simulating the contact behaviour between a human hand model and a deformable object
A deeper understanding of biomechanical behaviour of human hands becomes fundamental for any human hand-operated Q2 activities. The integration of biomechanical knowledge of human hands into product design process starts to play an increasingly important role in developing an ergonomic product-to-user interface for products and systems requiring high level of comfortable and responsive interactions. Generation of such precise and dynamic models can provide scientific evaluation tools to support product and system development through simulation. This type of support is urgently required in many applications such as hand skill training for surgical operations, ergonomic study of a product or system developed and so forth. The aim of this work is to study the contact behaviour between the operatorsâ hand and a hand-held tool or other similar contacts, by developing a novel and precise nonlinear 3D finite element model of the hand and by investigating the contact behaviour through simulation. The contact behaviour is externalised by solving the problem using the bi-potential method. The human bodyâs biomechanical characteristics, such as hand deformity and structural behaviour, have been fully modelled by implementing anisotropic hyperelastic laws. Cavity QED treatment of scattering-induced efficient free-space excitation and collection in high-Q whispering-gallery microcavities
Whispering-gallery microcavity laser possesses ultralow threshold, whereas
convenient free-space optical excitation and collection suffer from low
efficiencies due to its rotational symmetry. Here we analytically study a
three-dimensional microsphere coupled to a nano-sized scatterer in the
framework of quantum optics. It is found that the scatterer is capable of
coupling light in and out of the whispering-gallery modes (WGMs) without
seriously degrading their high-Q properties, while the microsphere itself plays
the role of a lens to focus the input beam on the scatterer and vice versa. Our
analytical results show that (1) the high-Q WGMs can be excited in free space,
and (2) over 50% of the microcavity laser emission can be collected within less
than . This coupling system holds great potential for low
threshold microlasers free of external couplers.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure
Quantum secret sharing between multi-party and multi-party without entanglement
We propose a quantum secret sharing protocol between multi-party ( members
in group 1) and multi-party ( members in group 2) using a sequence of single
photons. These single photons are used directly to encode classical information
in a quantum secret sharing process. In this protocol, all members in group 1
directly encode their respective keys on the states of single photons via
unitary operations, then the last one (the member of group 1) sends
of the resulting qubits to each of group 2. Thus the secret message
shared by all members of group 1 is shared by all members of group 2 in such a
way that no subset of each group is efficient to read the secret message, but
the entire set (not only group 1 but also group 2) is. We also show that it is
unconditionally secure. This protocol is feasible with present-day techniques.Comment: 6 pages, no figur
Dynamic output feedback sliding mode control for uncertain linear systems
In this paper, a class of uncertain linear systems with unmatched disturbances is considered, where the nominal system representation is allowed to be non-minimum phase. A sliding surface is designed which is dependent on the system output, observed state, and estimated uncertain parameters. A linear coordinate transformation is introduced so that the stability analysis of the reduced-order sliding mode dynamics can be conveniently performed. A robust output feedback sliding mode control (OFSMC) is then designed to drive the considered system state to reach the sliding surface in finite time and maintain a sliding motion thereafter. A simulation example for a high incidence research model (HIRM) aircraft is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method

A simplification scheme of probabilistic teleportation of two-particle state
of general form is given. By means of the primitive operations consisting of
single-qubit gates, two-qubit controlled-not gates,
Von Neumann measurement and classically controlled operations, we construct
an efficient quantum logical network for implementing the new scheme of
