A New Method for Making Shallow P-Type Junctions
In this paper the authors present a new method for making shallow p-type junctions in silicon by molecular ion implantation. Unlike current molecular ion implantation methods which use boron and fluorine molecules, this new method uses an element which is completely miscible in silicon. Note that fluorine is an element that saturates at a very low concentration in silicon. The compounds used in this new method are boron silicides and boron germanium molecules. These compounds have several distinct advantages including the facts that the co-element silicon (or germanium) has a very high saturation value in the silicon matrix, the co-element is massive and therefore creates more damage during implantation, and the co-element has a larger projected range than the boron. Note that the Rp for fluorine is shallower than that of Boron for a BF{sub 2} implant. Recent experiments indicate that BSi ion beams can be generated in a sputter ion source with efficiencies of 0.5% with respect to the generated Si beam. A plan to develop a new ion source that is compatible with current ion implantation systems is presented
A Gravitational Aharonov-Bohm Effect, and its Connection to Parametric Oscillators and Gravitational Radiation
A thought experiment is proposed to demonstrate the existence of a
gravitational, vector Aharonov-Bohm effect. A connection is made between the
gravitational, vector Aharonov-Bohm effect and the principle of local gauge
invariance for nonrelativistic quantum matter interacting with weak
gravitational fields. The compensating vector fields that are necessitated by
this local gauge principle are shown to be incorporated by the DeWitt minimal
coupling rule. The nonrelativistic Hamiltonian for weak, time-independent
fields interacting with quantum matter is then extended to time-dependent
fields, and applied to problem of the interaction of radiation with
macroscopically coherent quantum systems, including the problem of
gravitational radiation interacting with superconductors. But first we examine
the interaction of EM radiation with superconductors in a parametric oscillator
consisting of a superconducting wire placed at the center of a high Q
superconducting cavity driven by pump microwaves. We find that the threshold
for parametric oscillation for EM microwave generation is much lower for the
separated configuration than the unseparated one, which then leads to an
observable dynamical Casimir effect. We speculate that a separated parametric

âEven if You Know Everything You Can Forgetâ: Health Worker Perceptions of Mobile Phone Text-Messaging to Improve Malaria Case-Management in Kenya
This paper presents the results of a qualitative study to investigate the perceptions and experiences of health workers involved in a a cluster-randomized controlled trial of a novel intervention to improve health worker malaria case-management in 107 government health facilities in Kenya. The intervention involved sending text-messages about paediatric outpatient malaria case-management accompanied by âmotivatingâ quotes to health workersâ mobile phones. Ten malaria messages were developed reflecting recommendations from the Kenyan national guidelines. Two messages were delivered per day for 5 working days and the process was repeated for 26 weeks (May to October 2009). The accompanying quotes were unique to each message. The intervention was delivered to 119 health workers and there were significant improvements in correct artemether-lumefantrine (AL) management both immediately after the intervention (November 2009) and 6 months later (May 2010). In-depth interviews with 24 health workers were undertaken to investigate the possible drivers of this change. The results suggest high acceptance of all components of the intervention, with the active delivery of information in an on the job setting, the ready availability of new and stored text messages and the perception of being kept âup to dateâ as important factors influencing practice. Applying the construct of stages of change we infer that in this intervention the SMS messages were operating primarily at the action and maintenance stages of behaviour change achieving their effect by creating an enabling environment and providing a prompt to action for the implementation of case management practices that had already been accepted as the clinical norm by the health workers. Future trials testing the effectiveness of SMS reminders in creating an enabling environment for the establishment of new norms in clinical practice as well as in providing a prompt to action for the implementation of the new case-management guidelines are justified
