The role of negative maternal affective states and infant temperament in early interactions between infants with cleft lip and their mothers
OBJECTIVES: The study examined the early interaction between mothers and their infants with cleft lip, assessing the role of maternal affective state and expressiveness and differences in infant temperament.
METHODS: Mother-infant interactions were assessed in 25 2-month-old infants with cleft lip and 25 age-matched healthy infants. Self-report and behavioral observations were used to assess maternal depressive symptoms and expressions. Mothers rated infant temperament.
RESULTS: Infants with cleft lip were less engaged and their mothers showed more difficulty in interaction than control group dyads. Mothers of infants with cleft lip displayed more negative affectivity, but did not report more self-rated depressive symptoms than control group mothers. No group differences were found in infant temperament.
CONCLUSIONS: In order to support the mother's experience and facilitate her ongoing parental role, findings highlight the importance of identifying maternal negative affectivity during early interactions, even when they seem have little awareness of their depressive symptoms
An Autoethnographic Approach to Faculty Development Through a Longitudinal Analysis of a Co-taught Workshop
The present contribution explores howa co-taughtworkshop, designed
and delivered in the last two academic years within two curricular disciplines of the third year of the degree course in Science of Education at University of Macerata (Italy), took advantage of autoethnography as a reflective method to enrich the interdisciplinary relationship between the two professors involved and their mutual growth in terms of instructional design and teaching practices. The exploration of Self as a data source allowed both researchers (in their teaching role) to reflect on core areas of faculty development in connection with the specific co-teaching style they adopted. Autoethnography allowed all the involved actors (students and professors) to visualize a transformative direction in their academic identity and professional growth. The discussion of the results is based on a content
analysis of different data sources where all the data were triangulated in a double connotation, that is, between professors and among the different sources in an iterative process
40 Gbit/s silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) phase modulator
A 40 Gbit/s electro-optic modulator is demonstrated. The modulator is based on a slotted silicon waveguide filled with an organic material. The silicon organic hybrid (SOH) approach allows combining highly nonlinear electro-optic organic materials with CMOS-compatible silicon photonics technology
Indium phosphide based membrane photodetector for optical interconnects on silicon
We have designed, fabricated and characterized an InP-based membrane photodetector on an SOI wafer containing a Si-wiring photonic circuit. New results on RF characterization up to 20 GHz are presented. The detector fabrication is compatible with wafer scale processing steps, guaranteeing compatibility towards future generation electronic IC processing
Dinamiche-didattiche laboratoriali e spazi educativi.
Training of socio-pedagogical educators is being continuously renewed and open to dialogue with personal and relational spaces they live in. From family to educational settings, students take care of their own professional expectations, thanks to the activation of democratic and participatory dynamics, which make them work in teams and address community complex contexts. In order to comprehend and underline the transformative value of Pedagogy, the paper shows a training experience, run with students of the Degree Course in Education Science, in which communication and relational dynamics within the small group are highlighted. The analysis, which focuses on the impact of the didactical strategies selected for the development of the above-mentioned experience, is run through pedagogical reflections on the emerged meanings and by valorizing students’ expertise and perceptions, with a design-perspective, starting from the collection of their own feedback
Silicon-organic hybrid electro-optical devices
Organic materials combined with strongly guiding silicon waveguides open the route to highly efficient electro-optical devices. Modulators based on the so-called silicon-organic hybrid (SOH) platform have only recently shown frequency responses up to 100 GHz, high-speed operation beyond 112 Gbit/s with fJ/bit power consumption. In this paper, we review the SOH platform and discuss important devices such as Mach-Zehnder and IQ-modulators based on the linear electro-optic effect. We further show liquid-crystal phase-shifters with a voltage-length product as low as V pi L = 0.06 V.mm and sub-mu W power consumption as required for slow optical switching or tuning optical filters and devices
