    Credit of peanut to subsequent wheat under desert farming conditions in presence of diazotrophs and nitrogen fertilizers

    Rotation with leguminous crops to break non-legume monocultures has been established to benefit the latter. The lacking information on this cultivation system in stressed environments encouraged the implementation of two field trials in two different locations of Ismailia desert soils. The experimental design included the cultivation of wheat subsequent to peanut in presence of diazotroph inoculation and N fertilization. Bradyrhizobial inoculation of the legume in combination with 50 kg N acre-1 resulted in the highest total biological yields of 4.24 and 5.01 kg plot-1 at the experimental sites 1 and 2, respective seed yields of 1.46 and 1.61 kg pot-1 were recorded. In case of the cereal crop, the measured acetylene reducing activities in soils of associative diazotroph-inoculated plants together with 50 kg N acre-1 were the highest being 515.8-886.2 and 616.7-1066.2 nmoles C2H4 g-1 h-1 at locations 1 and 2 respectively. The enzymatic activity of fallow-cultivated wheat generally represented ca. 95 % of that in subsequent to peanut. Irrespective of inoculation and N fertilization, the wheat biomass yield increases in residual effect-field over the fallow one were 6.4-35.1 % and 4.6-38.5 % at experimental sites 1 and 2 respectively. Increase percentages of 3.1-26.6 and 6.9-44.7 were scored as well for grain yield. The beneficial residual effect of the legume to the succeeding cereal was also extended to protein yields, increases of 4.0-14.2 % and 4.5-7.6 % were estimated for grain protein as well as 8.3-24.1 % and 8.1-35.3 % for straw protein yield. The findings of this study proved that the positively yield turnover of a legume is extended to the subsequent non-legume. Besides, the beneficial residual effects of legumes toward rotated non legumes could be magnified by diazotroph inoculation together with adequate N supply particularly in stressed environments represented, in the present study, by Ismailia sandy soil

    The use of Google apps to support teaching and learning: A UAE case study

This study was designed to examine pre-service teachers\u27 proficiency, use, and their perceptions of the benefits and barriers to the use of Google Apps to support their teaching and learning practices. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used. The findings showed that almost two-thirds (63%) of participants were advanced or expert users of Google Apps whereas almost one-fourth (24%) reported that they had intermediate experience and 13% reported possessing poor experience. It was found also that participants used Google Apps the most for communication purposes, backing up and sharing data, and accessing teaching materials. The findings also revealed that participants perceived Google Apps as a valuable tool to improve teaching and learning. However, their use of Google Apps was hindered by several barriers, such as deficiency of access to reliable technology, increasing workload, lack of collaboration skills, cheating and plagiarism, and lack of integration skills

    Modified Dijkstra Shortest Path Algorithm for SD Networks

    This paper uses a modified Dijkstra shortest path method for considering cumulative delays rather than bandwidth in software-defined networks. To implement the proposed method, an open-source Ryu controller is used, and a Mininet tool is used to emulate the topology. The proposed method is compared with the traditional Dijkstra’s algorithm to demonstrate its performance. This comparison shows that the modified Dijkstra’s algorithm provides higher performance of the different cumulative delays. Several experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method using three parameters (bandwidth, transfer rate and jitter). In addition, the cumulative distribution function is calculated using the parameters to show its distribution through the experiment period

    In this chapter, the magnetohydrodynamic effects on heat transfer and thermal radiation at a stagnation point flowing in a nanofluid containing different types of nanoparticles namely, copper (Cu), alumina (Al2O3) and titania (TiO2) through a porous medium have been investigated numerically. By using appropriate transformation for velocity and temperature into a set of non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations which are solved numerically. Numerical results are presented for velocity and temperature profiles for different parameters of the problem. Also, the effects of the pertinent parameters on the skin friction and the heat fluxes are obtained and discussed numerically and illustrated graphically

    In general, the thermal radiation and thermal diffusion effects over an electrically conducting, Newtonian fluid in a steady laminar magnetohydrodynamic convective flow over a porous rotating infinite disk with the consideration of heat and mass transfer in the presence of Soret and Dufour’s diffusion effects have been obtained and studied numerically. The governing continuity, momentum, energy and concentration equations are converted into a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by means of similarity transformation. The resulting system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations is solved numerically. In this chapter, numerical results were presented for velocity (radial, axial and tangential), temperature, concentration and pressure profiles for different parameters of the problem Also, the effects of the pertinent parameters on the radial and tangential skin friction, the rate of heat and mass transfer are obtained and discussed numerically and illustrated graphically

    Rejecting spam during SMTP sessions

    This paper analyzes a spam rejection scheme at Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) sessions. This scheme utilizes a layer-3 e-mail pre-classification technique to estimate e-mail classes before an SMTP session ends. We study the spam rejection scheme using discrete-time Markov chain analysis and analyze the performance of the proposed scheme under different e-mail traffic loads and service capacities. The proposed scheme reduces the e-mail volume to be queued and processed by e-mail servers. This reduces non-spam e-mail queuing delay and loss, and protects e-mail servers from being overloaded by spam traffic
