Spatial restructuring in İstanbul Printing and Publishing Sector after 1985

Yeni teknolojilerin kullanımına dayalı olarak gerçekleşen yeniden yapılanma süreçleri üretim organizasyonu ve üretim süreçlerinde olduğu gibi mekan üzerinde de önemli dönüşümlere neden olmaktadır. Bu çalışma, özellikle 1985 yılı sonrası basım ve yayın sektöründe ofset basım tekniğinin ve buna entegre edilen bilgisayar sistemlerinin (yeni teknolojilerin) kullanımıyla sektörde yaşanan yeniden yapılanma sürecinin mekansal yansımalarını ortaya koymayı hedeflemektedir. Merkez sanayilerinden biri olarak bilinen bu sektörde yeni teknoloji kullanımıyla gerçekleşen yeniden yapılanma süreci ile birlikte, merkez alanlarından kent içindeki başka konumlara ve kent çeperine yönelen mesafeli bir desantralizasyon süreci yaşandığı izlenmektedir. Bu çalışmada teknolojisini yenileyen firmalara yapılan anketler ile Türkiye Odalar ve Borsalar Birliği’nin 1988,1996 Yılı Kapasite Raporları’ndan yararlanılmıştır. Anahtar kelimeler: Yeniden yapılanma, yeni teknolojiler, basım ve yayın sektörü, desantralizasyon.Restructuring process depending on new technologies leads to spatial transformations as well as some changes in production organization and production process. This study aims to hold spatial outcomes in the restructuring process of Printing and Publishing Sector in İstanbul. After 1985, together with integration of computer systems to offset technology, the restructuring process has been experienced in the sector. As a result of this process, although printing and publishing sector known as an industry that prefers to locate at the center, a distanced decentralization has been experienced from central areas to the locations within the city as well as peripheral areas. Due to new technologies decreasing dependency on skilled labor together with increasing dependency on unskilled labor made the locations attractive within the city as well as peripheral areas with cheap and unskilled labor supply. In these circumstances spatial structure of the labor market (existing squatter and squatter prevention areas at inner city as well as peripheral areas where unskilled labor could be found abundantly) has become one of the factors directing decentralization process. In the study, questionary given to technologically renewed firms and 1988, 1996 Capacity Reports Files of The Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Turkey were used. Keywords: Restructuring, new technologies, printing and publishing sector, decentralization
