Insane, mad, crazy... : about the functions of insanity in literature (on the basis of works by G. Kanovich, L. Fuks, P. Schneider and J. Krzysztoń)
The short characteristics of chosen works, which I have presented above, makes us aware how great is the variety of ways of using insanity in literary works. However, they simultaneously show that there exist certain premises for building a particular typology, which could encompass all possible variants or several complementary typologies allowing quite a clear description of this complicated material.
The basic rule of such a systematisation could be the place of insanity in a literary work or in literary communication, as different works treat this phenomenon in different ways.
First, the insanity can simply be an object of a more or less accurate description. Thus, then the insanity is a trait of character’s personality, it functions as a ‘presented subject,’ which is not attributed any special semantic functions — it is neither a great metaphor of the world, nor a symbol of social relations, etc.
Secondly, one can separate the works on the basis of rhetorics used to describe insanity.
The insanity is described differently when it is just an object of presentation, and differently when it becomes a special ‘code,’ a way of presenting reality, when it is given a symbolic meaning, etc. In the first case one can speak of an immanent scope, in the second — of a contextual one. The editor in translation and his/her intratextual role
In English — like in Polish — the term ‘editor’ is attributed to at least two types of meanings. The first, wider meaning refers to the person who designs the editorial plan, who analyses the relations between the text and the hypothetical market or the reader and takes the decisions connected with the size of the print, distribution model etc. In reality, it is a role corresponding to that of a producer in the film-making terminology. It is an undoubtedly an extratextual role, situated between the text and various contexts of the book. Thus,
the matters concerned are actually the marketing decisions, such as the role of shaping the taste, the choices designing the popular reception of the work, which come from an earlier study of addressee’s expectations and the economical decisions originating from that study. As for this wider role, the name ‘producer’ or ‘publisher’ in Polish has been adopted, while the term ‘editor’ is used for describing different functions.
In the Polish editorial tradition there exists a term ‘adjuster’, which depicts a role closer to the concept of editor proposed here. Let’s consider the place an intuitively recognised participant of the literary communication in preparing of a translation text. (fragment tekstu
Typologia zjawisk literackich epoki realizmu socjalistycznego
W artykule zaprezentowany został przegląd modeli literackich ukształtowanych w Rosji
w okresie realizmu socjalistycznego, tj. w latach 1929—1953. Podstawą tej typologii jest założone,
iż kryterium stanowi stosunek do dominującego prądu epoki. Konstrukcja typologiczna
tłumaczenia prowadzi do ujawnienia obecności w tych translatorskich wersjach dwóch
sposobów myślenia o sensie dzieła poety, z których jeden prowadzi ku metafizycznemu
uogólnieniu jego znaczeń, drugi zaś postrzega go jako rezultat manifestacji podmiotu
melancholicznego. Owe pozornie sprzeczne interpretacje analizowanego tytułu stwarzają
przesłanki do reinterpretacji światopoglądu omawianego eseju
Brodsky and Rubtsov - the identity contexts of two poems
This paper deals with two poems: “Ты поскачешь во мраке…” by Joseph Brodsky,
and “Я буду скакать по следам задремавшей отчизны…” by Nikolay Rubtsov. Analysing
some features of these poems and comparing similarities in both poets’ biographies, the author
states the significant difference between them. Rubtsov, in his opinion, has an identity typical
of pre-modern subjectivity. It is conventional, stereotypical and conservative, full of faith in
traditional, idealised Russian values. Brodsky’s self-defining is in this aspect close to late
modernity. It is liquid, all the time in movement, never convinced about self-identity
O prawdzie i podmiocie wiersza Josifa Brodskiego „
The analysis of Iosif Brodsky’s poem rejects the claim that his poetry is metaphysical
in nature. Instead, it suggests that the distinctive construction of presented in the poem
subject, fitting Giani Vattimo’s description of “weak” subject, is typical for late modernity.
Characterizing him as a late-modern author is then justified further by examining Brodsky’s
conception of truth: for him it is a contingent, context-dependent entity, which voids the
professed universality of metaphysical claims
Skąd to zastrzeżenie?
Lûbovnyj sûžet v "Mastere i Margarite"
Wątek miłosny prezentujący relacje pomiędzy tytułowymi bohateriami powieści
Bułhakowa opisany został w artykule jako fenoment odzwierciedlający konwencjonalne
chwyty typowe dla kultury popularnej. Zgodnie z tezą autora historia ta
zawiera — zarówno w aspekcie fabuły, jak i konwencji kulturowych — liczne klisze
typowe dla wątków miłosnych obecnych w masowej produkcji fabularnej. Dotyczy
O perevodah stihotvoreniâ "A Song" Iosifa Brodskogo : "tehnologičeskij" èskiz
W artykule poddano analizie jeden polski i dwa rosyjskie przekłady anglojęzycznego
wiersza Josifa Brodskiego A Song. Celem badania było zweryfikowanie granic przekształceń
semantycznych dopuszczalnych (i niedopuszczalnych) przy tłumaczeniu
tekstu napisanego regularnym rozmiarem wersyfikacyjnym. Analiza wydobywa
