A vacuum induction furnace for pyrometric cone equivalent determinations

Various furnaces which are commonly used for P.C.E. determinations were compared from a literature review. The inadequacies of these furnaces were noted and a furnace was designed, constructed, and evaluated in an effort to minimize or eliminate some of the indicated problems. For this furnace heat is developed in opposed cones (susceptors), which are fabricated from 0.005” molybdenum sheet, by induced (induction) currents from a 10 KW vacuum tube generator. Toward a More Adequate Concept of Organization in Social Work Practice Theory

A generic model of social work practice requires the formulation of frameworks that indicate what is meant by intervention at the organizational level. Usually organization is put at some midpoint in a hierarchy of social levels (such as individual, small group, organization, local community, society). However, when one looks at the various social work practice frameworks, there is very little development of knowledge about the process of intervention at this mid-level. Since the macro levels of community and society can probably be best conceptualized as inter-organizational arenas, social work practice knowledge for these levels is also hindered. This article intends to look at what some practice frameworks say about organizational intervention and also what these frameworks assume about organizations. From this beginning exploratory analysis, a direction for practice theory is indicated that can move toward a more adequate practice theory for intervention at the organizational level

THE DEMAND FOR WHOLESALE BEEF CUTS BY SEASON AND TREND

This study estimates demand during the 1980-90 period for wholesale beef cuts by season and by trend. A data set containing monthly nominal prices for wholesale cuts and average choice boxed beef from January 1980 to December 1990 was collected from multiple sources. The approach expressed the change in demand for wholesale cuts as the change in the price ratio of individual cuts relative to the price of boxed beef. This approach shows changes in amount by season and over time relative to the average wholesale cut. Brisket, Armbone Chuck, Bottom Gooseneck, and Knuckle showed the strongest demand in winter and lowest in summer. Top (Inside) Round had a clear downward trend in demand, but the seasonal pattern was less pronounced and more erratic than the lower-priced cuts. Top Sirloin Butt had its highest demand in spring and summer with November-December being the lowest period. Strip Loin had the strongest warm season demand during the period which contains Memorial Day. Ribeye experienced a seasonal demand highest in November-December and lowest in January to April. Full Tenderloin was the most expensive wholesale beef cut analyzed in the study, and its demand was highest in November-December. This purpose involved: (1) A comparison of the type and quality of news reporting, features, teacher and student aids, and aspects of the actual format of the papers; and (2) evaluation of these publications in such manner as to ascertain which would best achieve the common and desirable objectives of teachers of junior high school studies
