Croatian Latin Script Throughout the Centuries
It is little known among the general public that the Croatian Latin alphabet has not always possessed all the letters that we use today. This paper presents a general overview of all significant attempts to reform the Croatian Latin script in works written in the Croatian language and the Latin script. The influence of other Latin writings on the formation of the Croatian Latin script and the path of development from the first Croatian Latin writings to the present day are considered. The most important accounts of the development of Croatian Latin writing and the scholarly debate that they have generated are discusse

THE FIRST PRINTED TRANSLATION OF THE BIBLE IN CROATIA
Even before KatanÄiÄ\u27s translation of the Bible there had been attempts to make partial or complete translations into Croatian. In 1925, Bartol KaÅ”iÄ translated both the Old and New Testaments, and Stjepan RusiÄ (1750-70) translated the New Testament. However, their translations remained handwritten, what makes KatanÄiÄ\u27s translation (printed in 1831 in Budim) the first printed translation in Croatia. Although the linguistic significance of the first Croatian editions has not been stressed enough, KatanÄiÄ\u27s translation is an important step towards the standardisation of the Croatian language
Geometric Terminology in the Eighteenth Century
Matija Petar KatanÄiÄās manuscript Pridhodna Bilixenya od Dillorednog Zemlyomirja, which was written by the end of 1786 and at the beginning of 1787, is analysed in this paper. The manuscript is a Croatian translation of the first edition of a Latin geometry textbook, Elementa geometriae practicae, written by the Hungarian author PĆ”l MakĆ³. The complete geometric terminology has been extracted and then compared to geometric terminology collected from old Croatian dictionaries. As specialised terminology has greatly developed since the end of the eighteenth century, it is understandable that a part of the terminology suggested by KatanÄiÄ has not been kept in contemporary use. Yet KatanÄiÄās forming of geometric terminology presents an interesting model for todayās experts, who, considering the deluge of foreign words, might find among his suggestions some terms which could be useful today, as well

Old Slavonian manuscript dictionaries
U skladu s jeziÄnim zbivanjima i standardizacijskim procesima u Slavoniji u 18. stoljeÄu važnu ulogu Äini i poveÄano zanimanje za prikupljanjem rjeÄniÄkoga blaga. Blaž TadijanoviÄ, Matija Antun ReljkoviÄ i Marijan LanosoviÄ u svoje gramatike uvrÅ”tavaju i rjeÄniÄku graÄu, no to nisu samostalna leksikografska djela. Rad Äe stoga rasvijetliti postojanje nekoliko teÅ”ko dostupnih i malo obraÄivanih starih slavonskih rukopisnih rjeÄnika nastalih do preporoda, a koji su oblikovani kao samostalna leksikografska djela. ViÅ”e Äe rijeÄi biti o rjeÄnicima Matije JakoboviÄa, Josipa Stjepana ReljkoviÄa, Marijana LanosoviÄa i Matije Petra KatanÄiÄa.Keeping in line with language developments and standardization processes in 18th century Slavonia, growing interest in collecting lexical lore, plays an important role. Blaž TadijanoviÄ, Matija Antun ReljkoviÄ and Marijan LanosoviÄ include also lexical materials in their grammar books. However, these are not independent lexicographical works. The paper sheds some light on the existence of several hardly available and less analyzed old Slavonian manuscript dictionaries written before the Reformation, and which were designed as independent lexicographical works. The dictionaries of Matija JakoboviÄ, Josip Stjepan ReljkoviÄ, Marijan LanosoviÄ and Matija Petar KatanÄiÄ are given a closer look at
