    This study was conducted to measure forage productivity at Batanghari Distric Palm Oil Plantation(PTPN 6) of different ages( 3,5, and 8 years ) of the palm trees in Province of Jambi. Purposive sampling was the methode of selecting sampling location.Data were subjected to unpaired t test. The results showed that botanical composition of grass and legume was significantly ( P < 0.05 ) different among three different plantation. Carrying capacity in the the 3-year palm oil plantation was not significantly( P > 0.05 ) with that of in the 5-year palm oil plantation but it was sifnificantly( P < 0.05 ) different with the 8-year palm oil plantation Carrying capacity in the 5- year palm oil plantation was significantly( P< 0.05 ) different from that in the 8-year. The dry matter production of grass and legume on the 3-year palm oil plantation was not significantly( P > 0.05 ) different from that on 5-year palm oil plantation but it was significantly( P < 0.05 ) different from that on 8-year plam oil plantation; The dry matter production of grass and legume on 5-year palm oil palantation was significantly( P < 0.05 ) different from that on 8-year palm oil plantation. It could be conclude that the productivity of forage available at the palm oil plantation field looked decreased with the age of the palm oil plantation field

    Peningkatan Kandungan Unsur Hara Pupuk Kompos dengan Stardec untuk Hijauan Makanan Ternak

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari dan mengevaluasi pengaruh stardec (star decomposer) terhadap peningkatan kandungan hara kompos sebagai pupuk untuk hijauan makanan ternak. Penelitian berlangsung selama 2 bulan di Laboraturium Budidaya Ternak dan Hijauan, Fakultas Peternakan, Universitas Jambi, sedangkan analisis unsur hara kompos di Laboratorium Ilmu Tanah, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Andalas. Penelitian dalam Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), terdiri dari 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan. Perlakuan terdiri dari: (A) stardec 0% + pelepah sawit 70% + feses sapi 25% + dedak 4% + urea 1%; (B) stardec 0.5% + pelepah sawit 70% + feses sapi 25% + dedak 4% + urea1%; (C) stardec 1% + pelepah sawit 70% + feses sapi 25% + dedak 4% + urea 1%; dan (D) stardec 1.5% + pelepah sawit 70% + feses sapi 25% + dedak 4% + urea 1%. Peubah yang diamati yaitu: kandungan unsur C, N, P, K dan ratio C/N pupuk kompos. Hasil analisis ragam menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan stardec berpengaruh nyata (P0,05) terhadap hara N dan rasio C/N kompos. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan D (stardec 1,5%) menghasilkan kandungan unsur hara tertinggi, massing-masing C (32,74%), P (0,40%) dan K (0,96%), demikian juga jika dilihat dari nilai rataan kandungan N (1,96%). Selanjutnya untuk peubah rasio C/N berada dalam kisaran SNI (10 - 20). Secara keseluruhan dapat dsimpulkan bahwa perlakuan stardec dosis 1,5% adalah yang terbaik dalam kondisi penelitian ini. Oleh sebab itu, dosis stardec 1,5% bisa digunakan sebagai pupuk dalam pengembangan dan budidaya hijauan makanan ternak
