Hamiltonian lattice quantum chromodynamics at finite density with Wilson fermions

Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) at sufficiently high density is expected to undergo a chiral phase transition. Understanding such a transition is of particular importance for neutron star or quark star physics. In Lagrangian SU(3) lattice gauge theory, the standard approach breaks down at large chemical potential μ\mu, due to the complex action problem. The Hamiltonian formulation of lattice QCD doesn't encounter such a problem. In a previous work, we developed a Hamiltonian approach at finite chemical potential μ\mu and obtained reasonable results in the strong coupling regime. In this paper, we extend the previous work to Wilson fermions. We study the chiral behavior and calculate the vacuum energy, chiral condensate and quark number density, as well as the masses of light hadrons. There is a first order chiral phase transition at zero temperature.Comment: 23 pages. Version accepted for publication in Physical Review

The 1,10-phenanthroline-chelated CoII atom in the polymeric title compound, {[Co(C7H4O6S)(C12H8N2)(H2O)2]·1.5H2O}n, is connected to the sulfonate O atom of one 4-hydroxy-3-sulfonatobenzoate dianion and to the carboxylate O atom of another dianion. It is also coordinated by two water molecules in a trans-CoN2O4 octahedral environment. The dianion links adjacent metal atoms into a chain running along [110]. The chains are linked by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network

Glueball Masses from Hamiltonian Lattice QCD

We calculate the masses of the 0++0^{++}, 00^{--} and 1+1^{+-} glueballs from QCD in 3+1 dimensions using an eigenvalue equation method for Hamiltonian lattice QCD developed and described elsewhere by the authors. The mass ratios become approximately constants in the coupling region 6/g2[6.0,6.4]6/g^2 \in [6.0,6.4], from which we estimate M(0)/M(0++)=2.44±0.05±0.20M(0^{--})/M(0^{++})=2.44 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.20 and M(1+)/M(0++)=1.91±0.05±0.12M(1^{+-})/M(0^{++})=1.91 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.12.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, figures to be sent upon reques

QCD at Finite temperature and density with staggered and Wilson quarks

One of the most challenging issues in particle physics is to study QCD in extreme conditions. Precise determination of the QCD phase diagram on temperature TT and chemical potential μ\mu plane will provide valuable information for quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and neutron star physics. We present results for phase structure on the (μ,T)(\mu, T) plane for lattice QCD with Wilson fermions from strong coupling Hamiltonian analysis and Kogut-Susskind Fermions from Lagrangian Monte Carlo simulations at intermediate coupling.Comment: Lattice 2004 (nonzero

Nonlinear Model-Based Method for Clustering Periodically Expressed Genes

    Get PDF
Clustering periodically expressed genes from their time-course expression data could help understand the molecular mechanism of those biological processes. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear model-based clustering method for periodically expressed gene profiles. As periodically expressed genes are associated with periodic biological processes, the proposed method naturally assumes that a periodically expressed gene dataset is generated by a number of periodical processes. Each periodical process is modelled by a linear combination of trigonometric sine and cosine functions in time plus a Gaussian noise term. A two stage method is proposed to estimate the model parameter, and a relocation-iteration algorithm is employed to assign each gene to an appropriate cluster. A bootstrapping method and an average adjusted Rand index (AARI) are employed to measure the quality of clustering. One synthetic dataset and two biological datasets were employed to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The results show that our method allows the better quality clustering than other clustering methods (e.g., k-means) for periodically expressed gene data, and thus it is an effective cluster analysis method for periodically expressed gene data

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), as a complex medical science which reflects philosophical principles and embodies large dialectical thought, is used to place the human body into a large system for observation. Acupuncture as a vital part of TCM, has been practiced to treat various diseases and symptoms. However, acupuncture is also facing severe challenges resulted from insufficient modern scientific research. Nowadays, the holistic effects of acupuncture can be researched by some modern approaches, such as the systems biology and fMRI technique. It is believed that having a better understand will greatly promote acupuncture research and be beneficial to scientization and modernization of acupuncture

    Acupuncture Mechanism and Redox Equilibrium

Oxidative stress participates in the pathological process of various diseases. Acupuncture is a component of the health care system in China that can be traced back for at least 3000 years. Recently, increased evidences indicate that acupuncture stimulation could reduce oxidative damage in organisms under pathological state, but the exact mechanism remains unclear. This review focuses on the emerging links between acupuncture and redox modulation in various disorders, such as vascular dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and hypertension, ranging from redox system, antioxidant system, anti-inflammatory system, and nervous system to signaling pathway. Although the molecular and cellular pathways studies of acupuncture effect on oxidative stress are preliminary, they represent an important step forward in the research of acupuncture antioxidative effect
