IntroductionTrace metal elements may play a crucial role in bone mineralization and metabolism. However, the quantification of trace element concentrations in human bone tissue has received little attention.Materials and methodsBone tissue samples were collected from 55 elderly patients (15 males and 40 females) with intertrochanteric hip fractures. The calcium, phosphorus, manganese, iron, copper, and zinc concentrations in the cortical bone zone, cancellous bone zone, and junction zone between cortical and cancellous bone were determined by energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDX). The differences in trace element concentrations in the three regions were compared, and the correlation between gender and bone trace element contents of the bones was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis’s test. The correlation between age, body mass index (BMI), and bone calcium, phosphorus concentrations, and trace elements in three bone zones was determined using Spearman correlation analysis.ResultsThe Kruskal-Wallis test showed no difference in bone phosphorus concentration among the three regions. In contrast, the difference in the concentrations of bone calcium and four metal elements was statistically significant (P<0.01). In addition, no statistical differences were observed in the concentrations of trace elements among the three regions in elderly male and female patients. Spearman correlation analysis showed a strong negative correlation between bone calcium and phosphorus in three bone regions (r=-0.999, -0.95, -0.998, P < 0.01) and a significant positive correlation between trace metal elements in the cancellous bone zone. In the junction zone, the BMI showed a strong positive correlation with bone calcium content (r=0.347, P=0.009) and a significant negative correlation with phosphorus content (r=-0.349, P=0.009).ConclusionBone calcium and phosphorus were the main components of hydroxyapatite, and these two elements accounted for the majority of bone mineral salts. Trace metal elements are essential for bone metabolism and specific synergistic interactions. BMI may be associated with bone calcium and phosphorus contents in elderly patients with osteoporosis

Recent studies have shown that microtransplant (MST) could improve outcome of patients with elderly acute myeloid leukemia (EAML). To further standardize the MST therapy and improve outcomes in EAML patients, based on analysis of the literature on MST, especially MST with EAML from January 1st, 2011 to November 30th, 2022, the International Microtransplant Interest Group provides recommendations and considerations for MST in the treatment of EAML. Four major issues related to MST for treating EAML were addressed: therapeutic principle of MST (1), candidates for MST (2), induction chemotherapy regimens (3), and post-remission therapy based on MST (4). Others included donor screening, infusion of donor cells, laboratory examinations, and complications of treatment

Research on Temperature Compensation of Optical Fiber MEMS Pressure Sensor Based on Conversion Method

The characteristics of optical fiber MEMS pressure sensors are easily affected by temperature, so effective temperature compensation can improve the accuracy of the sensor. In this paper, the temperature characteristics of optical fiber MEMS pressure sensors are studied, and a temperature compensation method by converting the wavelength is proposed. The influence of target temperature and data point selection on the compensation effect is studied, and the effectiveness of the method is verified by the temperature compensation of sensors before and after aging. When the converted target temperature is 25 °C, the pressure measurement accuracy of the sensor is improved from 1.98% F.S. to 0.38% F.S. within the range of 5–45 and 0–4 MPa. The method proposed in this paper can not only improve the accuracy but also make the regular calibration more operable

Circ_0072088 Promotes Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion of Esophageal Squamous Cell Cancer by Absorbing miR-377

Circular RNA (circRNA) is an endogenous noncoding RNA. Accumulative investigations have confirmed that circRNAs play a vital role in carcinogenesis and tumor progression. Herein, we examined the expression and mechanism of circ_0072088 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). As a result, circ_0072088 was significantly overexpressed in ESCC tissues and cells, which was closely associated with tumor size, invasion depth, clinical stage, and lymph node metastasis of esophageal cancer. Nuclear and cytoplasmic separation as well as FISH assays showed that circ_0072088 was mainly localized in the cytoplasm of ESCC cells. RNase R treatment assay revealed that circ_0072088 was steadier than linear ZFR mRNA. circ_0072088 promoted ESCC cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro, and cell proliferation in vivo. Mechanistically, circ_0072088 upregulated VEGF gene expression by acting as the sponge of miRNA-377. In conclusion, circ_0072088 might be used as a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target for ESCC

rf conditioning and breakdown analysis of a traveling wave linac with collinear load cells

    No full text
Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) has built a compact linac-based terahertz free electron laser (THz-FEL) prototype. In order to achieve compact structure, the linac uses collinear load cells instead of conventional output coupler to absorb remanent power at the end of linac. The new designed structure is confronted with rf breakdown problem after a long time conditioning process, so we tried to figure out the breakdown site in the linac. Without transmitted signal, we propose two methods to analyze the breakdown site mainly based on the forward and the reflected power signals. One method focuses on the time relationship of the two signals while the other focuses on the amplitude. Both the two methods indicate the breakdown events happened at the end of the linac and more likely in the first or the second load cell
