    Entropic Compressibility of L\'evy Processes

In contrast to their seemingly simple and shared structure of independence and stationarity, L\'evy processes exhibit a wide variety of behaviors, from the self-similar Wiener process to piecewise-constant compound Poisson processes. Inspired by the recent paper of Ghourchian, Amini, and Gohari, we characterize their compressibility by studying the entropy of their double discretization (both in time and amplitude) in the regime of vanishing discretization steps. For a L\'evy process with absolutely continuous marginals, this reduces to understanding the asymptotics of the differential entropy of its marginals at small times. We generalize known results for stable processes to the non-stable case, and conceptualize a new compressibility hierarchy of L\'evy processes, captured by their Blumenthal-Getoor index.Comment: 26 pages, 1 figur

Knowledge management has created the new era of dramatic changes in managerial discourse. Given that knowledge management does not suffice to know the code and documented alone, many organizations around the world rely on their implicit knowledge and enhance their competitive position in seeking to improve their effectiveness and efficiency. In knowledge management, acquiring and application processes of knowledge are in order to achieve individual and organizational goals. Knowledge management is based on three pillars: people, processes and technology. Between these three factors, technology has created great changes in knowledge management system in the last two decades. Due to the increasing use of information technology in organizations, knowledge management and its use is increasing. Technologies, such as local area networks (LAN), Intranet, Internet, email, databases, and organizations, all have played an important role in knowledge management. On the other hand, capabilities such as more accessible, offering advanced applications and the decreasing cost of computer equipment increased the role of information technology support for knowledge management and it leads to significant improvements in behavior intelligence and knowledge-based organizations and individuals.Further analysis on the emerging technologies such as Internet-based systems, facilitate the distribution of knowledge and knowledge management, But this attitude is that these technologies are indeed anti-knowledge and knowledge management and information may not only lead to the accumulation of knowledge, So knowledge management facing challenges vague and non-systematic. Given that a few studies Has been in the field of knowledge management in insurance companies, In this research we focus on select the most appropriate technology for Knowledge acquisition and application processes in insurance companies and with Offering a perspective on knowledge and manage it, investigate the role of information technology in knowledge management and evaluate and select appropriate technology using fuzzy AHP. Keywords: knowledge management, information technology, technology choice, Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process.

Determining Surgical Candidacy in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

    Get PDF
Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most common form of adult epilepsy that is amenable to surgical treatment. In the carefully selected patient, excellent seizure outcome can be achieved with minimal or no side effects from surgery. This may result in improved psychosocial functioning, achieving higher education, and maintaining or gaining employment. The objective of this paper is to discuss the surgical selection process of a patient with TLE. We define what constitutes a patient that has medically refractory TLE, describe the typical history and physical examination, and distinguish between mesial TLE and neocortical TLE. We then review the role of routine (ambulatory/sleep-deprived electroencephalography (EEG), video EEG, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), neuropsychological testing, and Wada testing) and ancillary preoperative testing (positron emission tomography, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), subtraction ictal SPECT correlated to MRI (SISCOM), magnetoencephalography, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and functional MRI) in selecting surgical candidates. We describe the surgical options for resective epilepsy surgery in TLE and its commonly associated risks while highlighting some of the controversies. Lastly, we present teaching cases to illustrate the presurgical workup of patients with medically refractory TLE

Comparing the Presence of Researchers of Medical Universities of Western Provinces of Iran on ResearchGate and Scopus

The aim of the present study was to compare the presence of researchers of Medical Universities of Western Provinces of Iran (i.e., Kurdistan, Hamadan, Kermanshah, and Ilam) on ResearchGate and Scopus using altmetric approach. This research also aimed to identify the significant difference between the Scopus indicators and the altmetric indicators of ResearchGate. The statistical population of this research consists of the researchers from University of Medical Sciences in Kurdistan, Hamadan, Kermanshah and Ilam with indexed documents in Scopus and affiliated with ResearchGate that were compared and reviewed by the author's work on ResearchGate. According to Scopus, Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences had the highest average number of documents, Hamadan University of Medical Sciences has the highest average h-index, and Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences had the highest average citation count. Based on the number of publications, Ilam University of Medical Sciences had the highest average, based on the ResearchGate Score (RG Score), Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences had the highest score and based on the following and followers indicators, Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences received the highest score. Increasing the number of documents uploaded on ResearchGate will increase the citations in Scopus and, consequently, the h-index will increase

Scientometric Study of Scientific Publications in Seismology based on Web of Science

This study aims to investigate and evaluate the scientific productions of Iran and the world in the field of seismology in the Web of Science database from 1970 to 2018, quantitatively and qualitatively. The present study was carried out, using a scientometric approach. This research is applied research that evaluates the quality and quantity of scientific products of the world and Iran in the field of seismology. The results showed that the number of scientific productions in the seismology field in the world is 114292 documents. The number of papers published by the Iranian researchers in this area was 3065 documents. Furthermore, the results showed that Iran is in the thirteenth position in the world and sixth position among other Asian countries. The total number of citations documents published by Iranians was 1963. The average citation per document was 6.25 and the H-index for Iran in this field is 51. The results showed that while Iran is an earthquake-prone country; the number of scientific research conducted by the Iranian researchers is low, in comparison to some countries that are not the earthquake-prone countries. Therefore, more attention should be paid to research and development in the field of seismology
