The hidden issues behind the body of Iranian architecture contain meanings, mysteries, and symbols. In the pathology of the bathroom, it should be noted that anti-physiological leisure in a mechanized, automated, and boring environment with no desire to stay in it, is the main problem that has prevailed in recent years. The aim of this article is to describe the relationship between the function of symbols of Iranian Architecture and the quality of health. This paper investigates 5 case studies namely the traditional bathhouse of Iran (TBI) from 5 cities with a particular approach to light and decorative motifs from the Ghajar and Safavid periods in Iran. The methodology used is the Delphi research with the Q factor analysis. Finally, the profile of the relations of ornaments in a healthy TBI is explained.© 2016. The Authors. To develop health, it is necessary to pay attention to different dimensions of social settings, abilities, and affordance. Behavioral bathhouses compared to the modern day bathrooms are different regarding meanings, function, and properties. The research method in this paper is qualitative using the Grounded Theory methodology. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the mental health of users and the geometric features (shape & form) of Iranian bathhouses. In conclusion, the research finding revealed that the geometric features of traditional bathhouse of Iran made the different dimensions of mental health.© 2016. The Authors. Biological inspiration in architectural design: reviewing the influence of the living world on architectural theory and practice

Analogy is a main cognitive source, which helps to understand new ideas and fosters creativity. Making analogy has a significant role in the architectural design thinking process and creating architectural concepts. The living nature has been always a great source of inspiration for the architects during history. Biological inspiration can be traced in various aspects of architectural theory and practice during the history. In the present research, different aspects of the influence of living nature and biology are investigated after an extensive literature review and classified in categories including as bio-utilization, inspiration in form, structure, mechanism, process, function, system, theory, abstract rule and concept. Accordingly, only some aspects of biological inspiration can be considered as biological analogies, including structure, mechanism, process, function, system, abstract rule and theory. Studying the history of bio-inspired architecture showed a gradual move from biological morphology, which was a superficial similarity, towards the deeper aspects of biological analogies in bionic design. It is because; bionic provides a deeper understanding of living nature. Besides, more efficient, optimized, and sustainable architecture could be achieved through the inspiration of deeper biological analogies in comparison to the superficial similarities

A new series of 4-chloro-N-(2-(substitutedphenyl)-4-oxothiazolidin-3-yl)-2-phenoxybenzamide derivatives were designed, synthesized and biologically evaluated as anticonvulsant agents. The designed compounds have the main essential functional groups for binding to the benzodiazepine receptors and 4-thiazolidinone ring as an anticonvulsant pharmacophore. Some of the new synthesized compounds showed considerable anticonvulsant activity in electroshock and pentylenetetrazole-induced lethal convulsion tests. Compound 5i, 4-chloro-N-(2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-oxothiazolidin-3-yl)-2-phenoxybenzamide, with the best activity was selected for evaluation of other benzodiazepine pharmacological effects. This compound induced significant sedative-hypnotic activity. However, it does not impair the learning and memory in the experimental condition. Flumazenil was able to antagonize the sedative-hypnotic and anticonvulsant effects of compound 5i indicating that benzodiazepine receptors are highly involved in the pharmacological properties of the novel compounds

Landscape Architecture Education: Requisite Knowledge and Skills

    No full text
There is an increasing interest in establishing new degrees of landscape architecture in all over the world. Along with the growth in the number of universities which offer landscape architecture program, the qualitative review of program contents has been increasing. Requisite knowledge & skills for landscape architects have an essential role in reviewing of educational program. This paper intends to analyze the training & educational text about landscape architecture, experiments of universities and employment demands. The outcome of these studies is a knowledge-based framework for landscape architects. In this framework the most important knowledge and requisite skills which landscape architects need them, are represent. Findings of this paper explain that we can shape the above framework according to the procedural and natural dimensions of landscape architecture. Landscape architecture encompasses the holistic humanistic-environmental approach of landscape architecture as a natural dimension and economic, social, technological, administrative and communicational items as procedural dimensions. This framework could be implemented in Iranian universities

The role of user preferences in urban acupuncture: Reimagining leftover spaces in Tehran, Iran

The article deals with the fragile connection that public spaces often have with their context. In this regard, the use of urban acupuncture in leftover space can be an opportunity to revitalize the urban fabric through small-scale interventions developed in accordance with community preferences. This study evaluates interventions in vacant plots based on both residents’ preferences and experts’ opinions. Using the example of leftover space in Tehran, this article explores public preferences and priorities regarding urban acupuncture from a social, design, and aesthetic perspective, applying a descriptive-analytical method. The opinions of six experts were examined and categorized in the first phase. In the second phase, the topics and subtopics extracted from the first phase were incorporated into visual questionnaires to evaluate preferences, from which 165 valid responses were obtained. Following the analysis of the questionnaires, twenty-two personal interviews were carried out. The results show which interventions are preferred over others
